This is one of the creepiest and most amazing horror animated shorts I have ever seen on RUclips. There are so many symbolic and subtle details and the way you showed the flashbacks, the "gliding camera" effect, is both soothing and unnerving... I could tell you drew from your own personal experience. Art has a therapeutic/cathartic effect in that sense.
If this is your first animated film, you have definitely got a career in this field. The direction, tension and story line was really good and kept my interest all the way through. It was so well done.
Thank you so much. This is my first indeed. I like creating atmosphere and dark worlds so I am glad this one kept you interested. 3D gave me the tools to create it on my own and that is very liberating. But it takes sooo much time. I recently made a traditional short film, trailer is on my channel. It is so cool to come up with stuff and then realize it with whatever tools are available. I hope to make more in the future.
Thanx to all for watching. So cool to read your comments and questions! Spread this video around and send it to your friends if you like animation or dark stuff. Lets make this thing go wild.
I don't know much about animations and all, but still, the suspense, the thrill captivates me. I mean, me as viewer, I want to understand the story, the meaning and continue watching it in order to get the answers of the questions arising in my mind, because of the suspense. Its awesome Buddy.❤️🔥❤️🔥🤟🤟
The amount of twist in this short was amazing and unexpected. The "villains transformation" was a bit underwhelming, but that's only because I've seen things worse than that type of being. It still made me jump at the end. Bravo and congratulations!
I love this wish this would become a movie. I haven't seen a horror short or a movie that mad me feel this could really happen and finally you have done exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you. Can't wait to see what you do next.😊
This is so professional, the attention to detail!! Like ball with its dirty watery look, the character faces and clothes like the fur on the jacket, What a sad ening ending too!! ahhh this is so cool, now i am inspired more to also create one day my own short film keep it up
Stellar work, especially for a small team! Love the environment & audio, and I especially enjoy the character design. I do adore the storytelling and emotional themes as well, and its central message relating to depression and that ceaseless struggle hits close to home for me. Bravo on all accounts!
I want to expand on my earlier comment because I think its relevant. I don't usually watch anything labeled as "Horror", not even a short, because I have mirror touch synesthesia. When I see something happen to someone else, I feel it like it's happening to me, to some degree, if my brain thinks it's real. Cartoons, for example, are safe and most CG is safe but some is really good. This short has obvious CG, the textures clearly tell my brain this isn't real. But some things like when he was kicking the ball against the wall, I felt that on my foot. It was when the girl was sitting on the sled and rested her cheek on the ball that I began to feel it. I felt the cold on my face. The ice cracking sent an arrow up my leg and the breath from behind him, I felt the warmth of that wisp across my neck and ear. It was seeing the creature holding him under the icy water that got me. I was freezing and couldn't breath and it didn't matter that it was CG or that it was not a closeup shot. I thought the creature would pull him through the mirror. I did not expect that. The sounds used were so well matched to the motion that the percussion was felt and I could feel the cold air against my skin when he was running away, around the pond. This doesn't usually happen with CG so my brain thought it was real enough to send those sensations. It was well timed, the suspense built like it was real and the environment and action were done in such a way as to mimic reality and tell a story that could be real. so there you are. This is impressive and I hope you make many more because you have a gift for mimicking reality in a visceral way.
Thanks for your elaborated response. Wow, how you described it got to you is amazing, perhaps not in the most positive way but amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Incredible work Nick. I know how hard it can be to stay motivated on a project so can only applaud your dedication and vision to keep plugging away over so many years. Inspirational stuff, you should be so proud.
Wow, very well done, you didn't cut any corners with the sweeping camera moves over large landscape, the distortions in the window glass... all of it. I was on C4D for decades but recently switched to blender. My v19 stopped working on the new OS and it cost too much to update so I have switched to blender.
@@darkworx-films i tried to learn blender for a decade but when c4d stopped working in January i did lessons 5 hours a day for three month and made a short film to force myself to figure it out and while i am not there yet i have to say the results were much better than i thought. You cant beat c4ds interface and use of tags for nondestructive modelling etc.
I had a lot of questions after the first watch thru about what happened when. Mostly because I thought when boy met the girl it was the first time they had met which wasn’t correct. Now my main question is what was up with the ball disappeared and reappearing? I don’t think it was the girl because whatever moved the ball seemed to be invisible like the monster, but if that were the case, why did it give the ball back? Edit: It was a great short, I’m just probably missing something. Congrats to the artist! It’s really well done!
The ball gets thrown by the invisible monster. He wants Timmy to meet up with the girl(Ylja). So he can do his dark thing and lure them back to the mirror.
Came here from Reddit, I loved this dude, you're so talented! Are you planning on making more animation in the future? I'd love to help out in whatever way I can!
Thank you, I intend to make shorts in any shape or form. Check my channel. I would wish it could be a complete movie. This was more a proof of concept then a shortfilm. There is so much to explore. Unfortunate I have no funds etc and made all my stuff on my own so all the exposure we can get is awesome and could lead to the next film. Love your channel btw. Ive been there several times;)
The boy is Timmy. The old man had to take a life to come back as his true self, the monster that he is.. The girl got her neck snapped. She is gone into the mirror world.
The story is a metaphor for my girls depression. The monster is the depression that wants to get her and also drags me under in the process. The flashback in the middle is the beginning of the story. The man is the visible appearance of depression that gets knocked down by timmy with the hammer. It doesnt want to die and merges with the mirror. Renders himself invisible. Depression is gone but always lingering. The man is no longer visible to them but wants to get back to the visible world. His life was taken by the mirror so he needs another life to get back. He does so with Ylja and his true form is shown to us. Etcetc. It is a bit much I understand. I made the film for me so the story behind it was more personal then obvious. Thanks for watching
I apreciate the effort put into pyutting together some assets, but the character design and the animation are awful, impossible to watch without being annoyed. The music sounds like an AI lame patwork of known musics. the overall story is barely understandable and the whole thing is extremely pretentious. But watched all of it anyways.
