awesome video man, it's been really cool to follow this from the first time you reproduced the dead/alive glitch all the way to now with AUPs and crazy setups and stuff... very well explained, I look forward to even more craziness with this bug
Oi, you're supposed to be on a retro fun break. You just can't help yourself can you? but thankfully, we get another awesome vid. The D&A has been on a 15 year great journey and you guys have fully understood the mechanics of it, used, abused and ripped this glitch apart, awesome work! I've often wondered if the old school guys had fully worked it out or just got that 'lucky glitch find' that we have from time to time because we mess around with the game so much. I don't recall seeing Duelies and Vash's versions, are they still on YT? Bungies game testers couldn't find a glitch even if it ran up to them and punched them on the nose. They should have hired you guys!
I spent all of yesterday adding 1400 Gameboy games to my hacked NES Classic, so yeah needed a new project for today hahaha. Thanks mate. According to LDG and all of the threads I had read and from HIH and all of the videos I ever found, this was not understood by ANYBODY in the least. It happened by accident by my count 3 times, and one of those was a HIH thread with no video to back it up. I just happen to be someome obsessed with mystery, and got lucky. Duelies video is incredible because it happened to him in SINGLE PLAYER. Hang tight, I'll try and clue you into the video name.
For Duelies single player D&A example search for the video "SP Ghost to Delta Halo Temple" and watch at 3:50. We still don't understand it, it's like he picked continue and revert at the same time and the game got confused and kept him in the player that just died.
@@DrBizz Thanks for the research. I've watched all of Duelies amazing vids when I first starting tricking a few years back, back then I was just a noob and understood very little of our cool hobby. Crazy vid indeed, D&A in SP whilst standing. With the millions who've played this game, the chances are it has happened to someone else but most would just chalk it up as an anomaly and revert to CP.
@@slobsky7237 Yeah, there is no explanation. Harc and LDG had both thrown around some good theories, we think it's potentially possible that the preloaded player exists in SP when you revert and the game is setting things up (one frame?) and that he could have been splattered by the flying ghost, then the game failed to set things up as intended from the existing checkpont because it got off track. This would check out if during that one frame the dead player turns into the preloaded player on the spot, then gets teleported to the CP location/scenario, then manifested to physical existence. We just can't figure it out or prove anything.
@@DrBizz Can't modders look into the preloaded player? Shame there's no audio, it doesn't look like duelies jumped off ghost so I can't see it being a splatter death. I thinks he's had a SID (sudden instant death) moment but the game got it's wires mixed up with ghost and let him live and killed ghost instead? I've had a few SID's on Delta Halo when sword flying to the BSOD switch. I would fly past the switch and SID would happen, no death barrier (even though it's close by) or fall-time deaths, just a strange mid air death. There's something weird while flying around the pair of towers and the kill volume surrounding it and while duelies is nowhere near the KV it could be linked? Maybe there's a Loch Ness monster Easter Egg down there lol or even a dev room floating about somewhere, do old games have dev rooms?
a couple of questions questions: So what changed between this and the other Halo games? The respawn mechanics appear to work the same as far as I can tell. Why do you travel all the way into the forerunner hallway just to walk back to the initial spawn location of the level? is that just where you figured out where the respawn point was for that load zone? does every load have this initial spawn point that just needs to be located?
I don't know much about the respawn mechanics in the other games. The reason I make it to the hallway is because that is the first area possible that I could force the other player to be unable to spawn due to unavailable space. That is the key to getting the "preloaded player" to show up in the default spawn location, and he only stays there if you delay the respawn manually by jumping, melee etc.
Yes, every single BSP load zone/map has a default spawn location where the players spawn and get teleported to the living player. Often this location is the same place they are standing during a cutscene if that particular BSP is used for that cutscene and the start of the mission. Sometimes they are inaccessible, they can be inside the geometry of the map where you would normally die or waaaaay outside the level floating somewhere.
@DrBizz I’m trying to find a video where you explained the history of the D&A glitch and showed the very first ever recording of it on YT many years ago. May you help me find it?
@@DrBizz yep! that was it! i found it, thank you for replying. love your determination to discover that glitch, with only 2 instances recorded all of the odds were against you... but you managed to find a way. respect!
@@Halo2Trigate Thanks. It was my personal holy grail for the game, well I guess besides the Cairo cutscene room haha. It was tons of hours of trial and error, it was never understood how it happened those few rare times and I basically guessed right. It was an awesome feeling the first time it happened, I was stunned.
@@DrBizz The second time doing it must have felt even more amazing, confirming that the first didn't happen because of "luck" but rather your planned brainpower!
@@Halo2Trigate Haha. Yes, I got it on Outskirts in the hallway and that was awesome. Harc The Shark had a huge breakthrough for us too, I thought you had to trip the load zone at the right time but he realized the preloaded player can be killed while suspended there.
Is there a method for checking what the default spawn/preload locations are besides trial and error? Like is there a way to check it with assembly or something?
I honestly have no idea. I don't have or use mod programs, but we got lucky that when you are starting with a plasma rifle (which is actually very common) you can see where it is. Otherwise the preloaded biped is invisible. I have actually found some by delaying the spawn and bumping into them, if you can believe that haha. It's pretty tedious.
If you get into a pinch when activating player merge you'll be teleported to the default spawn, that'd be a way to find it, but if you're doing that you may as well just get dead alive instead of player merge, details are extremely complicated.
@@DrBizz it is possible just hard, you need scarab and boom, kill your allies, then launch yourself onto the hills, I think RNG is also a heavy factor.
Hey would doing dead or alive pinch at one load zone and then delaying the spawn until your at another load zone to then kill the unloaded 2 player, would that be counted as carrying a pinch?
Yes, I have gotten the Brute on Gravemind but he's part of the first group of enemies and you need to kill him (hence, yourself as him) to advance. I'll show more AUP characters as I can.
Cool to see you and monopoli doing stuff with this and AUP again, I enjoy learning new ways to play as diffenent bipeds

Thanks I really appreciate that. I have a bunch of older videos with music showing fun tricks but I'll do more tutorials and explain more things.
