Seems like the Red Death evolved to attract ships to shore with its bio luminescence with the purpose to feed on dead crew members that wash up after wreckages, so it is a very big danger. Mariner shouldn't feel so bad.
Honestly I really wanted to have an option to keep the red death as a pet and cage it somewhere, then when we see the Mariner's home we can see it just walking around as a trophy with perhaps some fish skulls beside it lol.
When I was doing the Red Death quest for the first time I thought to myself upon seeing the little guy 1) they're faking me out with a fake out and it's just a kid, an adult version will pop up soon 2) there has to be a way to take this guy with you as a pet.

I was not a heavy weapons user in my run of Fallout 4 but after finding an explosive legenrary harpoon gun by sheer luck I instantly took it into my arsenal because I was specced into explosives among other things. Modifying it for flechetes made it into a giant explosive shotgun with crazy range. I called it Thar She Blows.

When I saw the red death, I immediately reloaded a save back on the shore, returned to the commonwealth, got the World Series bat, played back to the red death and was able to crack lil’ crabby to the outfield!

I read a comment somewhere of potential ideas the commenter had for the Red Death Pet. It can be used as an apparel item that will sit on your shoulder. It will react in different ways to different situations. It will hide in its shell during combat and it will raise its claws when you pass a speak check.

I can relate a lot to the Mariner in this situation. While I was on a church mission, my dad got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Chemotherapy kept him alive for enough time for me to come home to him a year later, and he seemed to be doing well for a while, probably getting higher spirits because I was back after almost 2 years. But the three months after I came home were the last three months of his life. Like the Mariner, my dad contemplated a lot on what he was going to do. He didn't blame me if I wanted to live elsewhere to avoid watching him die. But I endured to the end, having faith that things would turn out okay, or that a miracle could happen. My dad actually played Fallout 4 the day before he passed, sadly he only got to the point where he killed Kellogg. He never got to play the DLCs. Despite being 61 years old, he always had a younger mindset and loved video games. I miss him a lot.
It’s a huge missed opportunity… I don’t understand why not? Why didn’t they allow the player to have her as a companion? It’s so simple. After completing all of her quests (and all Far Harbor’s quests), then you’d earn her respect and she’d offer to become your companion. To get her companion perk, you’d just have do things that she approves of. And maybe if you said all the right things during and after the Mariner’s quests, then there’d be an option to romance her. There’s still lots more potential for dialogue with her, and more things to talk about. It isn’t complicated and would’ve added yet another level of depth to Far Harbor, which is already a great DLC. Additionally, being able to give her the Mysterious Serum SHOULD have been an option. I mean, why can’t we cure her? Makes no sense. Maybe ask Curie if she could have come up with something.
One thing to bear in mind about the Mirelurk Carapaces is that they're misc items rather than junk and have a weight. If you're not paying attention looting Far Harbour Mirelurks you can find yourself over-encumbered very easily. You can sell them but you're better off just not picking them up past the quest.
I was always suspicious about the timing of the Mariner's diagnosis. I thought the doctor lied to her to try and manipulate her into giving up her dock to the island. I felt like it would fit well with the events of the main quest.
I love the way you play through games. I've been begging Twitch streamers to play like this for years. So so so so refreshing to watch someone explore the dialogue and the world instead of just rushing from objective to objective. May have something to do with why your videos get over 10k views in the first few hours.

I do however take opportunity to suggest being thorough and slowing down when asked the all too common question "what should I do chat" Things are shifting though and permadeath and survival runs with no fast travel are becoming the norm. Streamers like Vrexia, Corastus, Bing, Grymstalker1 and many others are really changing the way Fallout is played on Twitch.

Someone made a mod where after you kill the Red Death and tell everyone at the dock a Mirelurk Queen appears with glowing red eyes called the Red Death and I really like the concept that all you found and killed was a baby.
Everytime I've done the Red Death quest my screens goes black except for my HUD. Managed to complete it by using quest markers and VATS, but watching this episode is the only way I've seen it. Thank you, Oxhorn😊

I've always wondered what it's like in the Fallout universe; especially in Portland where I currently live or in the Midcoast region where I grew up. Sadly never spent much time in the real life Bar Harbor, but the DLC does remind me of growing up near there.
In my headcanon they brought the Red Death back and claimed to seize one of the monster's young as a prize. Far Harbor now uses the lil' guy like the glowing one at Kingsport Lighthouse as a beacon so the town's scavengers and incoming boats will always know where it's at, even through the thickest fog.
I played fallout 4 story 3 times and am in the process of finishing it on my railroad character and I was only referring to what he/she is called by the people of Far harbor

I started playing far harbor at an early level so when it came time for the red death I put it off for a bit when I finally decided to get around to it I dumped all of my caps in ammo and bro when I realized how small this mans was I was pissed 😂
I never liked the Harpoon gun, untill this day I picked a legendary one which does double damage when firing the last shot of the magazine. In other words, a permanent 1-shot -1-kill effect to almost every enemy.

43:20 - I wonder if this bug about the boat to Red Death Island was fixed with a patch. I did this quest not more than a couple of days ago myself and encountered no such problem; though admittedly this was the first time I ever played this quest at all - let alone years ago like you did.

Me too; especially as I have lived along the Maine coast my entire life. I've always wondered what it's like in the Fallout universe; especially in Portland where I currently live or in the Midcoast region where I grew up. Sadly never spent much time in the real life Bar Harbor, but the DLC does remind me of growing up near there.
Even after 3 playthroughs, I had never had that uncomfortable conversation with the Mariner. Always another something to discover in this game :)

In my headcanon they brought the Red Death back and claimed to seize one of the monster's young as a prize. Far Harbor now uses the lil' guy like the glowing one at Kingsport Lighthouse as a beacon so the town's scavengers and incoming boats will always know where it's at, even through the thickest fog.
That Mirelurk is absolutely adorable, it’d definitely be a great lighthouse type creature.

There's a bug with The Mariner's quest. If Machete Mike dies the quest may not update so you just never do anything more than Hull Breech one

Everytime I watch one of these I get the overwhelming desire to play it, only to realize that when I do, Ox isn't narrating my playthrough so I lose interest. 😥
There Is a mod that adds ox to the game where hell narrate whats going on....

Allen’s voice actor sounds near identical to the voice actor who voiced Gutgash, a group leader in the game made in the 2010s I play, mad max. And I’m POSITIVE that brooks’s voice actor is the exact same voice actor who voices Mark Copeland. A group leader in another game I play called Days Gone
I started playing far harbor at an early level so when it came time for the red death I put it off for a bit when I finally decided to get around to it I dumped all of my caps in ammo and bro when I realized how small this mans was I was pissed 😂

I never liked the Harpoon gun, untill this day I picked a legendary one which does double damage when firing the last shot of the magazine. In other words, a permanent 1-shot -1-kill effect to almost every enemy.

Anyway so, ox, speaking of nostalgia you should get the project zeta mod for fallout 4 and do a video onit,it’s like the mother ship zeta dlc but for fallout 4, but way smaller, and shorter, but still! None the less a fun mod and it would be fun to see you do that kind of content again!
