The cars stick too much to the road in Dirt and they brake too fast. Not realistic at all. Still, I love the game. But the normal rally's where easy in Pro mode, and the races too hard. imho
Nice ride man :) Ive got 2 questions. With which program did u record this ? Cuz I tried it with Fraps but cant open the recorded video with any other program afterwards :( And 2nd, whats ur exact time for this race ? greetz
Actually, it's about 50/50 right now. About 2 miles from the start it changes from pavement to dirt, then right before Glenn Cove it changes back to pavement, all the way up to Devil's Playground. After it's all dirt again. But "rumors" are that it will get paved all the way to the top in near future, to preserve the mountain. We'll see. And I second that DiRT is unrealistic when it comes to physics. Almost unplayable with my G25 wheel too. I'll stick to real cars over games anytime :)
I have this game too, its awesome, just started playing this game 2 days ago. Btw do you shift manual? Cause i do. Online shifting manually has a advantage en disadventeage: You can go faster through slow corners bij shifting back to 2nd gear(Citroen C4 for example) but you also have to focus more if you shift of course. 2nd race online, and I beat 12 other players:P
In the game or by the fastest player? The record in the game was around 7 minutes 50 seconds if i'm not wrong. The fastest time i've seen in another video was 6 minutes 54 seconds.
woaw... I dont handle this race, GG. For those who don't understand : for this race, u have no coopilot, and it is very hard to never get out of the road in this circuit. Really GG.
There is said to be a new Flight Simulator in fevelopment and i'm pretty sure Colin McRae wouldn't make one anyway. The new Flight Simulator will be kick ass, better than FSX
good video but I didn't like the dirt very much. I'm still prefering the 2.0 version or de 4 even though the graphics are not as good as the dirt of course
they have really advanced brake systems on wrc cars for instance... normal abs doesnt work very well on dirt as the system is adapted for road use mostly..
no, it is the Escudo. I think the supra is faster though. listen to that turbo scream. watch my vid. I beat the world record for the top part of Pikes Peak
@thnk4urself Yes, obviously its an ignorant statement as i've only played 2 other rally games. Collin McCrae 3 and GT4. The rally in DIRT is far better than those two anyway. I haven't played any other games and i'm not a big racing game fanatic. I'm a casual racing gamer so i'm only interested in arcade racing games. I only played Dirt and Grid for the spectacular crash physics :D. I don't care about simulation, i only play for fun and i use other cars as braking aids :)). Have fun !
First of all, jaw dropping sounds and graphics! Codemasters, way to go. I purchased the game but it turned out to be a waste of money. i was expecting realistic physics but it turned out to be an arcade game far, very far, the furthest away from any car physics simulation I've ever seen. I'm sure the game demands very good skills. amazingly outstanding skills. yep. that i won't deny. this is not about skills at all. Mario Kart demands skills as well. haha! please! give me some decent physics!
It appears to be or very close to it. I just got back from the real deal :) This time is waaay too fast, but then again its not a sim. The actual record is held by the suzuki xl7 monster from 2007 on the same length course shown here, with 10:01. Still astonishing considering its a 13 mile course with 156 turns and over a mile in elevation change. I watched the race from the halfway picnic grounds, in this video at 1:25-1:31 (go to my profile and you can see rhys millen drift past me there.
What i hate about this game there is waaayyy too much crip what ever car you are driving. There is no sliding at all. And the brakes/tires?! Ok i`m going 200km/h little push to brake even in middle of a corner OK i`m now going 70km/h?! No sliding?? going like a train! Maybe i should make the car setup absolutely wrong way to make the car go a bit more realistic. Or i should try Richard Burns rally.
I grew up at the foot of The Mountain. Back in the mid to late 80's I would get up there at 1 in the morning on practice days in a beefed up 81 2wd truck and try to keep up with the Pikes Peak Highway patrol morning sweeper. They opened the road at 4:00 for the teams to get up there for practice. Our best time over 4 years making the run 3 times a year in the dark was 19:36 for the 12 miles. Too bad they are ruining the road.
I dont care if it feels to arcade like, Whatever makes it more exciting, fun, and easy to pick up and play the better, Im not into hardcore sims like many people, so it apeals to a larger crowd, good on them they rake in more cash, and many of you are saying its to arcade like cause the reviewers say it is? I played the demo and loved it and plan on buying it! The game kicks Ass!
While thats some impressive driving and an impressive game, I race Pikes Peak every year and the game doesnt look that realistic as far as speed, engineers corner went by way tooo fast specially for a car. The record held by Rod Millen is 10:04 so this is just blazing past it, for a 12.4 mile road your averaging quite a fast speed. But nice vid. It does resemble the track better than any other game I've seen.
Don't make yourself look bad by telling us this game is a simulator :P Its an arcade game. If it would be a simulator the guy in the video would have used a FF-wheel instead of his keyboard. As said before: It may be not as much arcade as NFS is - but DIRT is still an arcade game which seems to be ok for the average player.
That was really impressive. I watched that whole thing waiting for you to mess up and it never happened. By the way, for some of the others, this is a 6th gen Celica (ST205), 503 race motor, 2.1L, Rod Millen designed and driven. 1000 bhp @ sea level, 650 bhp @ the finish line at Pike's Peak. The record is 10:04 and change, I believe.
I'm not trying to talk you into playing the game. It doesn't affect my life one way or the other. I suggested the "try it before you knock it" method because it's generally better than the "I'll just act like I know" method. Think of it as advice for your everyday life, useful in any situation.
Is that the toyota celica ? i love this game i completed it 100% and got all the achievements in three days i was hooked. I'm very familar with this track as i had to repeat it over 50 times to get the 1000 mile achievement. A race between us might be interesting..
GT and Forza don't have the same level of damage modeling largely because car companies don't want people to see their cars all bent up, most games with licensed cars don't have damage, but i'll agree GT is better as a driving sim
Its a Toyota. Celica i think. The Celica is the fastest car for the hillclimb. Harden the suspension a bit and turn down the lsd differentials slightly to 85-90. Harden the anti roll bar slightly and set the down force to round 20. This works for me.
Great video ;) Can anyone tell me if i can use the 6 speed shifter and clutch on my Logitech G25 with this game or only the up/down style shifting? I havent bought the game yet, but im planning to when they stop selling out before i get there.
What you talking about Willis? I did a 5:52 and failed to win on Amateur level making 7:20 way off pace [I would place the caveat that this was on XBOX 360 and I'm unsure if times can be compared side by side]
If you want to play a really good rally game, then play Richard Burns Rally. It is hard and not a arcade type like CMR Dirt. Play RBR it with a good steering wheel and you'll know what i'm talking about...
Too bad it is the paved road. I grew up a CO Springs and used to go every year. I remember the first time I saw a group b Peugeot 205 run up the hill . Wow! video. google. com/videoplay?docid=7895870121884924185
@gaz52 I'd like to see you focusing on the physics, rather than the graphics. Also, for sure the graphics have changed and developet, but the focus of RBR is surely realism while DiRT's focus is graphic.
could you please tell me how did you manage to compress the avi video captured to be able to upload it here. My video is 2,8gb and I want to show it also... By the way, amazing drive to the clouds....
wow man your driving rock!this is a cool game.and i dont think that its a speed up because the game sound would be different.and turbo sound just rock!finally colin mcrae games have good sounds.
I played colin since the first came out, and always had an arcadic felling not like a real simulator, maybe it was a simulator in his time but comparing to RBR its nothing, but i still love it.
well you are quite right DIRT is a bit unrealistic but i am quite glad it is because its one of the only Rally Games you can play properly with a Gamepad ( I use the XBOX 360 Gamepad @ PC)
If you see the user 'ejofresh' says that the driving isen't real. I'm just telling him that this movie is from the Colin McRae - DiRT game. I know its a game, playing it myself.
Yeah I saw her when all the drivers came by at the end. I even gave her a high five! The car has over 600hp at the wheels doesn't it? I want to run up the track one of these years.
your joking me ay ya Colin mcrae dirt is way beta than the old one's u can do loads more than just time trail rally s. u can do races in buggies, lorries and other sorts of races
I like to drive using the same viewing feels more real. I hate ariel view its horrible even though you have an advatange as you can see the track and further alot better
the damage models are perfect and so realistic it takes a shit on gran turismo or forza, so therefore this isnt a arcade...but more like a sim, if u went into arcade mode
great run, man. please tell us your car settings. my record's 7.36 with that same celica . great car with great sound, it could have a bit more of top speed though.
how the **** did you set up your wheel to be able to drive this smoothly??? i would have bet you were using the xbox version until i saw this comment... pls help :)
but i can say that here the physics of the car are very unreal unlike in dirt 3 where its quite hard to drive since cars slide more, bumps fuck u up etc

I really miss the long tracks of dirt 1.... almost EIGHT MINUTES of driving. That was my main disappointment with dirt 2 and 3. Really miss em :/
Nice ride man :)
Ive got 2 questions.
With which program did u record this ? Cuz I tried it with Fraps but cant open the recorded video with any other program afterwards :(
And 2nd, whats ur exact time for this race ?
greetz
Man, that's real good. Was it done with a steering wheel?
Ps. Pikes Peak Full in DiRT (in Driver's View)is a MUST for any serious race gamer, end of..
Suzuki Escudo
Actually, it's about 50/50 right now. About 2 miles from the start it changes from pavement to dirt, then right before Glenn Cove it changes back to pavement, all the way up to Devil's Playground. @PowerSlaveAlfons Dirt is more recent and hell, according to wikipedia, RBR runs on a P3 and Win98!!! I'd like to see you try and play Dirt on that!
@thnk4urself

graphics are least important to me... in the means of realism nothing except real life beats RBR. Realism is my top game criteria.

Nice run slightly faster than my time :]. You'll know if you watch mine. I'm not really a speed racer, just race for fun.
@gaz52 I'd like to see you focusing on the physics, rather than the graphics.

its a Suzuki Eskudo pikes peak version 800 and something bhp cant remember only thing i know bitch is fast!!!! :)
I like to drive using the same viewing feels more real. I hate ariel view its horrible even though you have an advatange as you can see the track and further alot better

damn... anyone still playing this shitty arcade game? Go Richard Burns Rally... never heard of it? You should.
Only because you can't play it! RBR is with Live For Speed one of the best racing simulations ever programmed!
but i can say that here the physics of the car are very unreal unlike in dirt 3 where its quite hard to drive since cars slide more, bumps fuck u up etc
The game has many realistic aspects, but being able to get up the mountain in less than 10 minutes? WAY less than 10 minutes? Not realistic at all...
It's fun but Live for Speed has a lot better driving physics. In DiRT the car feels very sticky and the brakes are too strong..
btw sry for my english..
It is a tat fast i agree, but imagine when you cut it with real video from Ari Vatanen legendary Climb Dance Pike Peak race in the peugeot 405 T16.
I dont think this game is as fun as Rally sport challenge 2 cause u just cant drift in this game.....Its a good game but dont quite like it...
Nice driving... How many times before you mastered it? LOL!!! Dirt sections one has a hard time distinguishing road from hill slopes...
Just watching the video... that isn't realistic physics. Richard Burns Rally for a real rally sim..
Gran Turismo 5 for track realism.
Its a great game, seems you wouldn't know by your previous post. It is on PS3, PC and xbox. Colin McRae: DiRT
It has no "drifting" crap.
Yeah... i would like to see Gran turismo 5 simulation mode in that racetrack... that would kick asses... and will be more realistic
After being very excited about this game for a while, I was extremely disappointed after playing the demo. Very much arcade-y feel.
Yes, I can say for myself that colin 1 is much more fun then DiRT, and has a better physics. I still have my original copy of it.
It's a Suzuki Escudo. The game is Colin McRae: DiRT and this is the real speed , it's an arcade game not a simulation like RBR.
is that actually in game footage? its looks like its been speeded up just a bit, but hey i dnt have the game so i dont no lol
Dirt is "Overgraphiced", while loosing quality (Too much bloom)
RBR's Graphic really ain't bad, and the physics pwn DiRT's.
The physics and therefore cornering speeds are so ridiculous here its laughable. I really hope dirt 2 is more realistic...
Hm... looks like the gravel has too much grip in this game, if you compare it to the Ari Vatanen video from the Pikes Peak.
Can i run this game on my computer=
nVidia 8800GT 512mb,
AMD Athlon 5600+ X2 2.8GHz AM2 prosessor.
4GB 800MHz DDR 2?
lol sliding didnt seem to lose time for colin.... and well ofcourse alot of other drivers, its how its spose to be driven
I'd bet that it is the radiator. The intercooler would be in front of that and probably would not have a fan on it.
eh.. played the game myself and didin't like it at all. just too unrealistic to me. Richard burns rally still rules!
how to make this kind mo video w/o using camera or video cam, or what programs instead?
there is going to be another one called colin mcrae dirt 2 in memory of him, should be out mid 2009, can't wait.
hahah im like half asleep right now and i totally forgot i was watching a video game, i thought it was real. haha
it hasnt been sped up.. My personal best at the moment is around 7.15 minutes, with the same car used in the vid
Agreed! Richard Burns Rally is the most reallistic rally game I`ve played. Requires a lot of practice though ""
at big turns you don't slide the car, you just hit the brakes until it stops. that makes you lose a lot of time
Driving was done by keyboard.
I used a Suzuki Escudo for the video.
Dobo87: first play the game then write.
I loved DiRT before I found Richard Burns Rally. Now DiRT looks like a childs toy.
On the adress bar , in front of "youtube" , type gift and then press enter. its worth trying! DO IT NOW!!!
no but seriously(spell?) i think u can. maybe the game doesn't support your graffics card but i think u can
isn't that like 3 minutes under the world record? Anyway, i think i need to get a next gen console now. :)
@sabel25
I think that nothing beats DIRT as a rally experience.
DIRT is the king of all rally games.
do they actually puut races from the ppihc in this game if so i gotta get it so i can race my gpas car
The colin games where always arcade and not simulation, maybe in rfactor you can drive the hole track.
Sweet run
here you can see the course in real life by the master himself Ari Vatanen
lrAYRA2s8kE
muy despacio, tienes que hacer menos de 6 minutos
yes. i agree with you. the best cmr was 2004 i think. more sim than arcade.
This guy racing- knows what he's doing.
Codemasters- know what thier doing.
Enough Said.
I have Richard Burns Rally, but does it have pikes peak?
Or a mod that includes pikes peak?
looks like no reality or simulation here :-/ nice graphics and sound tho.
pretty accurate reproduction of pike's peak, incredibly unrealistic driving physics however.
well done slambert00 of corse its a videogame what did u think it was??
@szewei85 I'm currently doing that... It's a lot more intersting game than the sequel ;-)
The video is normal speed, just try out the suzuki ingame and you will see its realy fast.
Pretty easy, you just can't go that fast. :P
I live in Colorado.
7 minutes of my life gone in a sec ,cuz this was so interesting and fun to watch :D
It's actually a Celica. The Escudo was also a vehicle used at Pike's Peak, though.
I've got to say, I'm really good at this game, and you make me look like an ameteur.
codemasters' games are such crap lately I am pretty sure they will mess up f1 too
is this game any good, i'm thinking of getting it, is it more simulator or arcade?
I suggest you at least try the game before you make blanket statements about it.
give me 1 week and i will have a 6.50 on pikes peak unlimited. watch this space
