  • Are you feeling tired, weak, or experiencing tingling in your fingers and toes? You may be one of the millions of people who are deficient in vitamin B12. In this video, we'll explore everything you need to know about this crucial nutrient.
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a vital role in many bodily functions, including red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, and nerve function. It's found naturally in animal products like meat, fish, and dairy, and is also available as a supplement.
Unfortunately, many people don't get enough vitamin B12 from their diet and may be at risk of deficiency. This is particularly true for vegetarians and vegans, as well as older adults and those with certain medical conditions.
In this video, we'll cover the signs and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, how to get tested for deficiency, and the different forms of vitamin B12 supplements. We'll also discuss the importance of proper absorption and dosage and provide tips for incorporating more vitamin B12-rich foods into your diet.
If you're concerned about your vitamin B12 levels or simply want to learn more about this essential nutrient, be sure to watch this video. Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel for more informative videos about health and wellness!

I was having such bad panic attacks, that they would literally bring me down to my knees. I was withdrawing from doctor prescribed antidepressants. It was a literal hell. Anyways, my integrative medicine doctor told me to do sublingual B12 and lemon balm. It worked miracles for me in my life. I also have ADD and she suggested I do B12 for my ADD as well. It helps a ton. Deficiencies cause horrible emotional and mental health problems. Instead of getting to the core issues of mental health problems, by doing a simple blood draw… many doctors are medicating their patients with “medications” that cause even more deficiencies. I always say God gave us everything we need in Mother Earth. God please bless and heal everyone here!!

I’m so glad I listen to this video. I had some symptoms of being deficient in B12, but because I was taking a good quality B complex supplement, I didn’t think I would be deficient in it. After hearing you say don’t swallow B12, I went out and bought a sublingual form of it. Within a week I was feeling a positive difference. One of the things that’s been so nice since talking this form of it, is I’m not getting night cramps in my legs now. I can’t thank you guys enough.

This is serious stuff. At age 54 I started having numbness in my fingers and then toes. Within a week I had no feeling total hands and feet. Went straight away to Urgent Care. They could not believe how numb I was after sticking me with sterile needles ( my eyes were closed ), I felt nothing. Was sent for nerve conduction studies, definite bad news. I had blood drawn for all kinds of things, sent to a neurologist, MRI, on and on. I got so weak, had very low energy, could barely walk. I was having terrible burning , searing pain in hands and feet. Major zaps and jolts through my body out of nowhere. I could not look down without setting off terrible zaps of pain. I literally felt like I might be dying. Who knew? I WAS dying. A change of Dr and I was told exactly that! I had a B12 blood level of 6 which is basically zero. Not once did any of the previous drs I had seen even think to do a simple B12 level in all the labs that were drawn. Turns out I have pernicious anemia which is a rare autoimmune disease. B12 is essential for many things, one being forming red blood cells in the bone marrow. This results in misshapen red cells which cannot carry adequate O2….hence the weakness. All my organs were compromised. My MMA and homocysteine levels went sky high which is dangerous. My peripheral nerves demyelinated which resulted in all the zaps. It’s then like live wires touching each other, myelin is the covering for those nerves. My body does not make Intrinsic factor which is necessary to break down B12 for absorption. So I have to self inject cobalamin every 3 weeks to keep me functioning. As a result of the severity of the situation and the delayed diagnosis I also have permanent nerve damage which means my hands and feet feel like they are on fire. To shut that pain off I have to take large amounts of gabapentin which has its own side effects. I tell all middle aged women to ask for a B12 level to be done. The liver itself stores enough B12 for 2-3 years ahead so I must have had this for years.
I am now 72 and 2 weeks postop from a total knee replacement which is rough. But I would have 5 more of these surgeries as compared to what I went through 18 years ago.
I wish these 2 great docs would have explained that not everyone can supplement with B12 by mouth or sublingual. I really enjoy their videos ( and humor).

I was so confused as to what's happening, thankfully my doctor ran blood tests and it was a mess. I was rushed to a hospital right away. Right after blood transfusion I felt much better. Don’t forget about the effect that Lyme disease has on decreasing B12 levels, among other markers. About a year after being bitten by a deer tick, I had a whole assortment of symptoms that were on the checklist. One nasty one was panic attacks. When I checked with my doctor he coincidentally gave me a b12 shot because my levels were low. Shortly afterwards, I felt so relaxed that I knew I could not get a panic attack so long as I felt this way, and I was good for a few days. But that physical distress crept back up and the attacks happened again. I then found out that it’s a water soluble vitamin and it can be excreted through urin and sweat within a couple of days. I told my doctor that I needed more and he told me to get a B12 supplement at the drug store. After I took the required dose, I felt nothing like the effect I got from the shot. I kept upping and upping the dose but still nothing and the panic attacks continued. After further research, I found out that the version that I was using was cyanocobalamin, and that had to be processed by the small intestine and liver to make it an active form for use by the body. Some people may not be able to break it down. and sometimes it’s destroyed by stomach acid before it even gets to the small intestine. I then learned that there are active forms of B12: primarily methylcobalamin, and hydroxycobalamin. Once I tried those, I immediately felt that same response that I had to the shot. I had to feel my may to the right dosage level (overdoing it also created an anxiety response), but once I figured it out, I never had another panic attack again. My doctor was convinced that it was a placebo effect, but I debunked that because I would a have believed that I was cured after the first supplement, but I knew that I wasn’t. He then argued that people don’t have panic attacks from B12 deficiency. Perhaps he’s right normally, but the spirochete Bacteria of Lyme can effect people neurologically, and low B12 is one of the markers. I can’t help but wonder that if the B12 supply for the bacteria is getting low that they might trigger a neurological response.
In hindsight, I realize that my final conjecture is medically naive and unfounded, but could there be a symptomatic response that is particular to the combination of Lyme and low B12?

Low B12 in and of itself can cause demyelination of the peripheral nerves and create all kinds of neurological problems. Look up Pernicious anemia. Taking all the oral B12 supplementation in the world won’t raise the level if you have PA. You no longer produce intrinsic factor which breaks down B12 for absorption by the small intestine. Only injectable forms of B12 will do the job. And you cannot take too much because it’s water soluble and your body excretes what it doesn’t need. PA is an autoimmune disorder.
Lyme is a very nasty disease. Many drs don’t even know how to test for it properly. It can change your life if not treated right away.
If you have been bitten by any tick and know it, get to the Dr right off. Protocol says 30 days of Doxycycline. It’s very interesting to me how Lyme and PA both can wreak so much havoc on the body and in some of the very same ways. One of the problems some people have had from the Covid shot are neurological and some are vaccine injured permanently. I wish they would disclose the common denominator. Someone must know in the medical/scientific world.

The symptoms were hair loss, fatigue, tingles up and down the arms, nunbness in tips, dark circles under eye. difficulty swallowing was the most anoying and scary symptom. i did alot of research to find out why. My Cause was high dose long term Ranitidine for my ulcer. You need stomach acid to unbind B12 into its free form. I was B12 defficient for 2 years and i think it is what caused my Achalasia which is the difficulty swallowing. Severe Lack of B12 caused nerve damage in my esophagus. There is no cure for Achalasia so i will have it forever now.

I was diagnosed with very low B12 about 11 years ago, was injected in the arm monthly for 6 months. I tried oral supplements after that, including sublingual tabs. Didn't work. I have been self-injecting monthly under the skin in the abdominal area and it works for me. But much damage was done before my diagnosis way back when and have not been my "normal" despite all the years of b12 injections. I am better with the injections as told earlier. I think many people have b12 deficiency and don't know it.

Hi Talking With Docs. I hope you can comment.
I have 2 female relatives, one is vegetarian and the other is strictly vegan. They share multiple severe health issues such as diagnosed fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and Multiple Sclerosis which was picked up by a scan (brain scarring) also diagnosed. The other has Arnold Chiari syndrome and lupus, and now has significant hair loss.
From what I've learned B12 deficiency is implicated in all of these conditions. I can't help getting the feeling that they've totally wrecked their own health by liberating animals from suffering. That's not a good exchange as I see it; since we're not all suited to being vegetarian. Our bodies are suited to both animal and vegetable intake, surely that's what we need to stay healthy?

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  Год назад

So there are lots of omnivores who are B12 deficient due to the way we have treated the soil and animals for that matter. It’s a pretty simple fix as far as B12 goes - test and supplement. B12 is not implicated in all of those conditions though. Ask them to get tested

There are two ways for absorbtion of vitamin B12.
The first, is by vitamin B12 binding to "intrinsic factor". Only 2.5 micrograms of B12 can bind at each meal, and the absortion is almost 100% if the stomach make a good amount of HCl.
The second way, is by vitamin B12 being absorbed directly via the intestines. While this way doesn't require strong stomach acid and enough intrinsic factor, only 1% of the vitamin B12 introduced orally goes into the bloodstream and is stored into the liver. Therefore, while the daily allowance is 2.5 micrograms, you need one hundred times that amount for a correct absorbtion, which is 250 micrograms per day.
The liver of a young, healthy person has a seven years store of vitamin B12.

Hey guys, one does not need to “guess” about your need for B12 supplement as I’m sure you know. A simple easy blood draw ordered by you healthcare provider let’s you know just what the body needs help with. I’m 73 yo. Last year fought a serious post surgery infection for multiple months. I’m okay now but per labs need B12, Vit D 50,000/week and C. That’s it. All medical insurance, Medicare and Medicaid cover cost. Thanks for the tip about chewing B12. Don’t guess… know.

b12 is made from a bacteria (it's not a plant or animal corpses thing...that animals that used to be alive was supplemented with b12, so why not cut the "middleman" and take it directly). In the older days, we would eat plants that had traces of dirt (b12). but now we live in a sanitized modern society. Easy solution: just take a b12 supplement. Vitamin D....get some sunshine or take a vegan d3. Vitamin C is found in plants, not animal corpses. So eat fruits! Simple

Very awesome information.I do B12 injections myself I order them from my doctor I do them once a week. There was a couple of points in this video that I had no idea that it like a B12 would do. I had my red blood cells were smaller or something like that so even though it looked like I had plenty of B12 I did not. So I concur with you and the fact that we have less hydrochloric acid to break down vitamins in certain things that’s why I take the shot. I am so glad that you docs are also into health and nutrition. Keep up the good work!!💃💃💃💃💃👍🥰

I'm currently taking B-12 by injection - 1.5 ml every two weeks. My GP explained that my intestines were no longer able to get B-12 from my food and probably because an antibiotic caused pseudomembranous colitis. I am now 78 and have been taking the B-12 injections for about 25 years. In April I had a knee replacement and felt extremely weak during my recovery. I felt that my B-12 had been depleted and so I gave myself another injection as soon as I was able to. I felt quite a lot better in the days afterward. My surgeon does not believe that the B-12 level could have been affected by the surgery however I did find some sources online stating that this was known to them.

@@TalkingWithDocs Thank you, yes my knee and that side (left) are improving daily but I am now signed up with my surgeon to have a hip replacement on the right side. The pain there is inhibiting my full return to strength. When my turn for the surgery comes up I will make sure that my B12 is tipped up. Fortunately, my GP gives me the leeway to judge my need and adjust accordingly. I also make sure that my other supplements are taken regularly. I see you recommend Magnesium and Vit. D which I take daily but I will have to investigate the creatine and Berberine. Perhaps they are included in my Multivitamins so I will check. I have been doing the Hip Pre-Op exercises you recommend and I have noticed theyare already reducing my hip discomfort. Thank you for your videos!

Thanks for the video, docs! Informative and entertaining, as always. Question for you: I used to take B-12 sublingual daily, then I had labs done last year and my level was elevated to the point where my PCP advised me to stop taking it. I was only taking 1 pill per night, so I was surprised it was so elevated. What causes B-12 to be elevated and are there dangers when it is elevated (by a lot)? I could dig out my labs to give you specifics, they're just not handy at the moment.

When I take B12 at the 3-4 week mark I get really bad cystic acne. I went off and one it 3 times, every time the acne came back. Then after some serious research I read that if you take one B you have to take them all. I switched to a B100 and not only did the acne not come back - but the hormonal acne I got before my period reduced significantly! I became B12 deficient because I cut back on meat, my iron was also very very low. I've become very pro supplement after all this.

I have poor vitamin b12 because I'm a vegan. I had acne all my life and I'm 60! Especially after shaving my face!I finally discovered that shaving with liquid antibiotic soap (any brand works) works fantastic!! After I finish shaving with the soap, rinse my face and pat dry. After that Sometimes I would use neosporin cream. I would rub it on my face, take a damp bounty towel and dry my face. It takes the white cream off my face so it doesn't show. I do not dare touch my face all day!! At night I just shower with soap and water. The results of my acne have been unbelievable! Now I don't even use neosporin. I just use the liquid antibiotic soap and guess what? No more pimples. 😊

Proper nutritional supplementation is Vital due to the Under-nutritional value in our manufactured foods, as well as that which is grown in our soils. The farming community has been put under such pressure to produce More and More-often crop products.
An over-use of, and under-rested soils, are only able to produce Under-nutritional products.
Let's fix the SOURCE of the issue.
In the meantime, supplementation is essential.

The backlog in Ontario is overwhelming. Our best advice would be to talk to your surgeon and go on their waitlist for cancellations. Hang in there and try to stay as active as you can in the interim.
