Doce fino of Algarve is something I totally despise, it's made with almond paste, and I can't stand the taste.

I'd say that queijadas are certainly the most diverse pastry, every region has several versions. For people who don't like pastries with a lot of sugar I recommend queijada de Pereira

The Pastel de Belém was recently considered by the online platform TasteAtlas to be the best pastry in the world. Due to the growing misconception that Pastéis de Belém and Pastéis de Nata are the same thing, created by videos of tourists who visit Lisbon, I'm just imagining lots of tourists going around Lisbon eating Pastéis de Nata thinking they're eating the best pastry in the world. 😄
This year, one of our regional cheeses from a small village called Soalheira, near Fundão (Castelo Branco district), won the award for the best cheese in the world, beating the french, the dutch, the italians and all the other stereotypical cheese "superpowers", so I have to say we're fairing quite well. 🙂

@@pearlsofportugal - The Pastel de Belém is unique, so there's no other version. Despite looking similar, in terms of recipe the Pastel de Belém and the Pastel de Nata are unrelated because the first has a secret recipe. The Pastel de Nata has its own recipe that it's widely known and therefore everyone makes it based on that recipe, with a little change here and there.

All of that is amazing! Pão de ló de Ovar is very good but Pão de ló de Vizela is the best for me, with that thin icing on top (childhood memory - having a slice of that with a "meia de leite" with my grandparents every week). Basically everything with eggs and sugar is a dream 😀

I'll tell you a secret: my mom makes a salame de chocolate with "cheirinho" and even though I'm not a big fan of the regular one, this one is the best salame I've ever had in my life 😍about ovos moles: "don't put it all in your mouth" - impossible for me 😁 also, someone already said it but you have a large variety of "queijadas" available. Orange queijada, carrot queijada (my favourite), etc, etc. Thanks for your video!

@@salomecomedy I definitely would, if my mom had shared it with me too 🤣 but I believe she adds "aguardente" or "Macieira" when mixing the chocolate and before adding the cookies. Just a splash of it and it's normal for the salame to be a tiny bit moister than usual. It's simply delicious and I will ask her to make this for Christmas 🤣

You're missing so many ones. Have you tried "pão de deus"? With coconut on the top?, tarte de amêndoa,... pata de veado,...Have you tried requeijão com doce de abóbora e noz com um pouco de canela? Humm, it's simple, but very good. Also all the doces conventuais, there's a festival of these and liqueurs in Alcobaça, you should definitely try some. Frederick, if you more about "fried things", then I suppose you like the salted ones like pastéis de bacalhau, pataniscas, empadas de galinha, rissóis, croquetes...
and of course our famous alheira! Do you know the story about it? It's very interesting.

But you are using fast food examples of these sweets. Go to a proper pastry store to get the real product, and not Pingo Doce or Continente version. And Rabanadas, Sonhos, Pão de ló you should learn to do at home. Salame de chocolate has no place in portuguese pastry.
