Hint: If you want to rim your shield with rawhide, go to a pet store and buy one of those HUGE(about two to two and a half feet long) rawhide dog chew toys, cost about $15. Soak it in water for about an hour, then unroll it. I got two strips about three inches wide by two feet long(or so), which was enough to rim a 28 inch round shield
As for size of heater hose go to a auto part store and ask to see a few different diameters find what works for you, as for other strapping methods on round shields, 2 ways I have used 1 Straight up and down on a 20 inch round buckler and you have to be super aggressive on larger shield the center strap 45 degrees to edge handle similar to a heater works for larger rounds, but all in all you experiment and find what works for you that is half the fun of the game :)
Hello! I'm new to SCA fighting, and thought that I would try to construct my own shield. Is that plywood you're using as wooden shield? How thick is the wood? I guess you would want minimum thickness, to keep the weight down? What would you say is the minimum thickness för a wooden shield? I wouldn't want it to break during a fight. Thanks for an interesting and helpful video.

While SCA seems interesting, I think I prefer HEMA.
Why not both?

Where did you get the aluminum? Where did you get the shield boss? etc... etc... If this is to be a newbie how-to, you need to start at the beginning.
+Jaysen Warner look on the notes... All you need. I try to be unbias about products.
Do you have any tips for a round shield strapped instead of center boss?
Are you allowed to use small shields such as bucklers to deflect or wack was weapons away?
yes.
What diameter heater hose did you use?
@ FieldCommanderetesin no Shield to body contact, but Shield to Shield is perfectly ok =)
so no shield bashing that sux....
