    I so appreciate how he gets straight to the point in a minute video. More finger on the trigger also seems very pragmatic if one is in a real gun fight---It provides the strongest trigger pull without fussing about finger placement when one's adrenaline is pumping in a life and death situation..

    When I went through basic in '91, they taught us to squeeze the trigger with finger tip. I didn't shoot that way before I went in, but I did after. Here recently I've done what Pats friend told him, more finger in the trigger. It does help a lot. It causes the weapon to torque less.

    • @kaiki8318
      @kaiki8318 7 лет назад +8

      DavidSixSixFive I experienced the same...fingertip prior to and during service but when I went to glocks I always pulled to the right of target. I'm not a novice and also received the same advice from a friend with better credentials than I...he said go knuckle deep like with the ladies and I'm a believer.

    • @DubhghlasMacDubhghlas
      @DubhghlasMacDubhghlas 3 года назад +2

      @@kaiki8318 a rifle and pistol are two different systems. The support arm is further out holding the barrel on a rifle that can counter that torque. I really didn't have an issue with finger on the trigger with M9 got expert every time. Hell that might be more of glock thing where you want to go knuckle deep.
      But it also might have to do with hands size also since I am 5'8" vs 6' I probably can't get the same pull knuckle deep as someone taller.

    Thank you for this. Our range officer and I got into an argument last March during quals because he believed I used too much finger. I told him, "That's what your wife said too." I thought it was funny, but he damn near kicked me off the range. Regardless, I had to qualify with using the tip of my trigger finger. I did it and only scored in the 80's, but scored 100 and 96 on when I shot with my normal stance and trigger.

    I have been shooting with just the pad of my finger like many experts recommend. However, while dry firing at home, I had experimented using this finger placement, and it felt better to me. I just haven't tried it at the range yet because I thought it was improper. Lesson learned,...go with what feels right. Thanks for confirming that Pat. Keep up the videos. Love your style.

    "Sink more finger in the trigger". This is the Rosetta Stone.
    I don't know for how long I have been trying everything on my Beretta 92X RDO. Started from the tip of the 1st pad to center, to 2/3 (with better results), and then knuckle (horrible results). I have been trying this back and forth and the results have been inconsistent. Today I shoot great and tomorrow completely different using the same position.
    I went to the range today to try this tip. I placed the trigger in the center of the 2nd pad and the results were unbelievable. Shot at least 100 rounds from 15 yards with 99.5% accuracy based on a 4" target. The other 0.5% was within a 6" diameter.
    I will never go back to placing the trigger on the first pad.
    Don't ever let anybody ever tell you you are shooting wrong because of this.
    Great video Pat McNamara. Thank you for the tip.

    It makes sense, a finger inserted all of the way through the trigger guard keeps your hand in a more natural position as you grip the gun.

  • @jps226
    @jps226 2 года назад +2

    I need to try this. I always thought the physics of trying to pull back with just the pad or tip of the finger was like trying to fight the natural leverage to the side, whereas using more finger would cause it to naturally pull back more than to the side.

    Thanks Pat. Enjoy your vids. Great stuff. I'm going out today and try the "sink more finger" idea. I have been doing the traditional way for so long I just naturally do it. After watching your vid. I got out my 1911 (safety checked before I get grief) and tried out several positions. Damn it felt good. I paid particular attention to muzzle movement during dry fires and found my sweet spot.
    I have large palms and normal fingers. My glove fit is large medium. My feel good spot allows my base pad and first knuckle of my trigger finger to align down range. Very comfortable. Very natural.
    Trying it out today. I have been having some issues with trigger control lately and this may correct it. Right now I can say it feels natural and simple. I hope it works for me.
    Thanks again. Just found your channel recently, subscribed and going through vids. Good stuff.

    I watched this video yesterday and immediately went to the range to test this. I shoot the Dot Torture target every week and put 200 rounds though my gun. For yous guys that don't know Dot Torture, yer shooting strings of rounds at 2 inch circle targets. I usually reach my limit (breaking the perfect score of 50) at 6 meters and that's where I really start focusing on the fundamentals. Using this finger placement technique I was able to shoot 5 round strings all in the 2 inch circle out to 9 meters. After 9 meters the target completely disappears behind my from sight post and I cant tell what the fuck Im shooting at. Thanks for sharing this Pat, keep up the good work brother!RRLTW!!!

    I gain so much tactical knowledge whenever this man puts out a video. His no bs/straight to the point manner of communicating is a real draw for me to pay attention, & gain the goodness.
    I shoot a Glock 41, & for some reason shoot a bit low & to the left, as I am a righty. My groups are quite tight for a commo POG, yet with this little tid-bit of Warfighter goodness, I'm almost consonantly at center from 25-35 meters.

    everything from what direction your bullets are facing in your magholder to scan and access is different in a combat environment. the tactics that work in a real situation are not going to be the pretty stuff you do at the range. nuff said Great Video.

    My hands are pretty averaged size, but i can't do this technique with my double stack Glock 19. It puts my radial bone to far out of alignment behind the grip and causes more kickback. With smaller firearms, or any fullsize, single stacked firearms, this technique is fine.

    Really interesting, I wish he had described his problems in more detail before giving the remedy.

    use as much as you need but don't alter your grip and make sure you don't push or pull the frame with the trigger finger.....
    the grip is your connection to the gun.....the trigger finger should only be your connection to the trigger......this is why most shooters that are right handed tend to error by shooting low and left......gripping wrong or pushing/ gripping with the trigger finger
    the trigger should move front to back without any sideways torque or pressure

    I'd say go with whatever your finger naturally does unless, you find that that exact placement or amount of finger or lack of, combined with your trigger pull is pulling the sight offline.

    I've always used a comfortable amount of finger. Have gotten a lot of flak for it but I'm often on target. Little to be said to detour my behavior since it's always worked. I learned to use a lot of finger as a child hunting. We were taught to squeeze the trigger not pull. How you gonna squeeze the trigger with the tip of your finger, folks?
    Pulling gets you a miss squeezing gets you a dish.

      Hellosh Klosh, Amen, brother. I too switched to a trigger squeeze just a hair before the first joint. What a difference.
