  • Out for a stroll in the wood, cooking some supper.
Decided to break out the Kelly kettle, and whip up some sausage and egg sandwich.
Also used the ridge monkey toastie maker, and my canvas seat. Had to craft a tripod for the seat cover, great day.

Thanks for the video. I have the Kelly kettle base camp unit. I remember the time taking the kids out to a woodland, but the weather had been atrocious. There wasn't any dry fuel to be found. However, I always carry a Trangia burner with me as a backup. So on this occasion, I thought I might try it with the Kelly kettle. To my surprise, it worked a treat. It did sound like a jet engine, though, but I boiled the water and cooked for five of us. Since then, I've incorporated a Trangia burner as part of my Kelly kettle kit.

Thanks for watching. Yes trangia is now part of my KK kit plus the Vargo fuel bottle, they all nest in the KK perfectly

I really enjoyed this and am impressed by the fact that you put together the tripod and did some real cooking with the KK. The RidgeMonky is a neat piece of equipment and you did a really nice job of using a stake to keep it balanced on the stove. I like your content so I subscribed and hit the notification bell. Keep up the good work and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Nice video. As its currently precipitating it down I thoroughly enjoyed this as its probably what I would be doing if it wasn't bl**dy raining! Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Kelly Trekker so found this video enjoyable and got a practical demo. Great stuff.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Are you using the 'small' hobo stove (in the video)? I struggle with the small size (Kelly Kettle) hobo stove and people advised me that "the (Kelly Kettle) larger size hobo stove is more 'user friendly' ". Comment? Thx

Hi thank you, and thanks for watching. Yes its the small hobo ring for the KK Trekker. To be honest i hardly use the hobo ring, i would usually use the pot support, i only used it in this vid as the ground was very dry and i had forgot my table. It works ok, but i do prefer the pot support. Hope this helps.

@@MSIOutdoors Thanks for the reply. I couldn't work out why / how you usually use the pot support (I imagined the pot support would be used at the top of the KK (loads of boiling water!).) I quickly worked out how the pot support, on its own, fits nicely in the flame / burner dish (whatever it's called). So, I gave it a try and wow! Now able to burn thicker pieces of wood off branches, loads of heat and hot embers, able to easily light and restore a fire (using a pipe for blowing the embers). It just never occurred to me until I read your reply. I thought the pot support was used to either hold the KK off the floor or as a pot support to use the flames coming out of the top of the KK. At 70 years old I now acknowledge that you never stop learning. Cheers.

@@sonofFredBLoggs ...and I was this day old when I realised you could also use the pot support in this way. I, too, thought it was only used at the top of the KK or under the fire bowl. There is also a folding grill which I surmise can be used in this way also ( on top of the fire bowl). EDIT : I just checked my gear, the Ridgemonkey XL toaster sits well on the Scout/ Base hobo stove (which is larger than the Trekker one BUT the pot stand doesn't 'sit' very well in the larger fire base unless you turn the pot stand upside down. Hope that makes sense.
