Still epic 50 years later....
Grew up during the 70's and NOTHING beats the musical variety of that era. 🤩 Although I can't recall traditional Jazz, you could hear almost every style, just on regular radio! Pop, Rock 'n Roll, Folk, Blues, Hard/Classic/Shock/Art/Symphonic/Prog Rock, Country, Middle of the Road, Reggae, Punk, New Wave, Synth Pop, Broadway, Soundtracks, Disco (even with use of Classical music!) and of course some of the best ballads EVER written. I started drumming in the 80's and rolled straight into rock, heavy metal and prog but thanks to the 70's I can appreciate almost all music.
Schools and Colleges in the 1970's. 60 kids gathered around a behemoth T.V set in the gym of primary schools all over the British Isles to watch interesting things and stuff...that music will always be associated with primary school, itchy polyester trousers, angry teachers and disgusting school dinners. Thank you Focus for brightening my days.
true story , just as i remember it
You're talking about the DON'T ASK ME show...
Yes remember the trousers itchy as f%k
and that soap in the toilets that was mixed with grit, and azal toilet paper that was like wiping your arse on sandpaper.
Has to be the most iconic sound of the 70,s. How amazing a time, almost another world in comparison to today.
Saw them twice in the early and mid 70's...they were great live, and their energy and proficiency was par excellence. Wish there was a time machine to bring back the music of those days: Focus, Tull, etc.

@@richjones4956 Dude what are you doing...
It was long ago. Saw Thijs van Leer on here as he looks these days. He looks and sounds like a grandfather now. Hard to believe he, Akkerman etc were ever so young
@@larrybarron3504 they're both still around!
I've been trying to find this track for years. thank you with all my heart.
This is what you get when you've got one of the top ten guitarists of all time, one of the top ten drummers of all time, and the best Thjis Van Leer there will ever be!
yes, four higly skilled and educated musicians together, it can only be magic, and it were. ive Seen Jan Akkerman and his band live, that were for shure awesome.
@@missprimproper1022 I saw a lot of bands in the 70's , including Jethro Tull . But Focus were 4 very, very talented guys, Thijs , later became a great classic composer, he were in TV in our country , with our national symphony orcestra
Well to be correct Pierre didn`t play on this track or Cyrill who didn`t play bass on any Focus records, Jan played bass as C was more of a singer. It was Hans Cleuver on drums and Martijn Dresden on bass. Still a top tune.
Absolutely right
Why nobody never ever mention Mr Bert Ruiter (R I P)???
@@damirhlobik6488 Bert was a bit later than this vid, Focus 3 onwards. Though HoftheK was on that album, as well as Focus1. Sad to hear he passed in '22 RIP
Wonderful tune! I have always loved this. It has appeared everywhere - adverts, theme tunes, you name it. I hope the guys got their royalties! Fabulous musicianship and a timeless classic.
Jan Ackerman for me was the best in the seventies 💯🎸
Brilliant FOCUS. Fabulous music never ages.
I am so grateful to have lived during such a fantastic decade of music. The 70s.
Just bought a rare Focus 3 vinyl print in Amsterdam, they’re about the best band ever!
Why is this brilliant?
Don't Ask Me!
🇬🇧
one of the best tunes of my youth :)
When there's fun in music...!
Such an iconic piece of music
Like others, I have had a fragment of this tune in my noggin for years, knew it was on telly as a theme tune for something! Been trawling through Jethro Tull archives ( no bad thing ) but finally, tonight - closure!
The programme was "Don't ask me" on Yorkshire TV with the great Magnus Pike - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_Ask_Me_(TV_programme) .....DA.
@@diabolicalartificer Thank you for that.I would never have got there but I remember most of the people on it. Happy to see that Derek Griffiths is still going strong - used to love the music from Heads & Tails.
@@jimbrechin1089 Also used as the theme for Steve Coogan's 'Saxondale' in the early 2000s.

Marvellous. Takes me straight back to the 70's.
It takes me back to the 70s too. If only we really could go back in time at least for a while.
I've been listening to this since I was a kid with my mom! Thankful that she introduced me to Focus, 22 year and they are still a fav
¡¡¡HERMOSA MÚSICA!!! 💜" GRACIAS DESDE URUGUAY! 🌞"
I didn't realize this was an actual song and I haven't heard it since the 70s when it was the theme song for Don't ask me. I still remember it!
It was the music between schools' TV shows when I was at school..
so so glad i saw focus 2 years ago fkn ace
They look like they were having a bit of fun making this video, especially Jan, the greatest guitarist of the '70s (and beyond).

Focus never dies!
Tremendo tema musical. Un clásico del rock progresivo
My only wish, is that this song had been longer. Absolutely amazing
Do like me and use repeat fonction when playing it. Well maybe abroad than in RUclips😄
Isn't it also part of the brilliance of the song that it leaves you wanting more?
Music from those times pull me through these boring forgettable times
Why is music not like this anymore?
Blame Freemasons.
Because Thijs was from a musical family and actually a trained and educated musician , those are rare nowadays , and if they exist they prefer to use modern tools . If you listen to the more folk like albums by the Goth musician Chelsea Wolfe you see the knowledge and talent is there .. she just prefers different music .. Beside that , Modern digital tools can make soundscapes classical instruments cant reach , Focus was limited to the instruments of that era , god knows what they would have produced with instruments that went beyond a Hammond organ

@@juhman Dude, you must watch this, I know it's long but give it 30 minutes and you'll see what I mean. ruclips.net/video/Y7G5CKX0je0/видео.html
Because everything has been thought of, no one can come up with something original. Some people do try.
It is the most stupidest uncreative thing to hear a song that's been played on the radio on a commercial, and especially when the it doesn't even match, or have anything to do with the song and the meaning of the song.
I think this should be used as the soundtrack to an iconic driving scene
Utter brilliance.
One of my fav bands such talent
Best flute song ever!!! This and California dreamin' flute solo is amazing!!!
Such as Jethro Tull…!!
This song make me fly.
One of my favorite Focus tunes. First heard it on Radio Soundhog.
This is sooooo beautiful! 🤎
Have this tune in my head also for decades. Whistled the tune to google on Sunday and found. Brilliant musicians
Pretty pretty. Love this song. Focus is excellent!
Ian Anderson has some competition for the "Rock Flute King".
Muito boa banda de rock progressivo!
Brilliant the untouchable 70s music
😊
I love Focus.very great song.forever
All I need now is a Schools and Colleges clock, and my nostalgia trip is complete!
I was looking for this comment!
How had I forgotten this? Great stuff
Utterly brilliant!
Thank you! Awesome quality!
This was featured in a TV series called Don't Ask Me. Then, it was featured on a school programme called Encounter France, Encounter Germany and Encounter Spain
Also the "own language" versions of the "Encounter" progammes, those being Rendez-Vous: France, Treffpunkt: Deutschland and Descubra: España.
the best song of progressive rock.
Don't Ask Me with the amazing Dr. Magnus Pike!
They sound just like Jethro Tull here! I like the beginning -- it's very endearing.
Great track
Focus is the greatest band of all time!!
The best unknown band so many people don't know it has ever existed.
Most definitely one of my favorites.Thijs Van Leer is a musical genius. His talent on the flute, all the different keyboards, songwriting and as well as his vocal abilities, as avant-garde as they may be. 😉
@@drumdad54sdl47 truly, he is. It is because of him that I started to play the flute. Already finished my studies on piano, but one never does finish it, right?! And now I'm learning the flute . Thanks to this supreme musician!
Tull wannabees

Pure sound stag
This tune was used on a numerous tv shows, I can remember when i was younger in the 70's it was used on a few Schools programmes..(Remember the dot clock that used to count down the start of the programme)..😁😁
Wow, yes! Pre-school age, I remember being fascinated by that clock and this tune.
Yep the old Schools and Colleges programs on the old Ferguson Videostar VHS players! Don't remember the programmes but do remember the clock and the music. 🤣
It was called "Don't Ask Me".
Mitici... Immensi...
Amazing not less but EV seen the band
Great!!!!!!
This is it no better no worse
Thijs Van Leer always insisted that Focus isn't a Prog Rock band because "Prog doesn't swing."
- But all the same, this song is in a 7/8 rhythmic pattern that's basically putting up a billboard sign which says "Yes, we ARE prog!" And another thing Prog Rock Bands always did was to push the boundaries and NOT sound like what the other Prog rock bands were doing. Focus is a Prog band which SWINGS!
Sounds more like 12/8 to me. (With a 10/8 thrown in between at some places, that's where it sounds somewhat irregular).
Stare idly into the camera. Oh, this is great band and song.
thanks!
Magnus Pike (for those old enough to remember Don't Ask Me)
Yes! Then in the mid 2000's Steve Coogan used it for the theme of Saxondale. This tune is timeless. ✌️❤️
Magnus was nearly as eccentric as Van Leer
And a very smokin' Dr. Myriam Stoppard.
That’s the geezer who used to wave his arms around everywhere on schools tv science programmes lol.
@@TheXeroid Not forgetting Derek Griffiths!
Did hear thjs one morning in the Dam. True that.
