This is such a great piece of american cinema, I love this movie I also recommend Hard Times with Charles Bronson its about street fighting during the great depression in the US.
What a freaking great movie. Saw it when it came out. True story... In 1986 I was a medical courier in San Fernando Valley, walking down a hallway picking up blood samples from doctors offices in a medical bldg in Tarzana this big dude walks down the hall towards me holding his arm like he just had blood taken, and shadow boxing. So I go up to him And say goofingly, hey ya wanna go a few rounds buddy, he looks up and growls OK let's go. It was Ernest borgnine. Recognized him immediately and got his autograph...
I saw this in the theatres as a kid. My mom dropped me and my brother off to see the movie, she assumed it had something to do with Santa because it had "North Pole" in the title! lol. We loved the movie but she was shocked when we told her what it was about!! I was probably in 4th or 5th grade at the time, probably the first time I'd ever seen a topless woman on film. That was before the ratings I think.
Of a good movie is it but like all the good ones they where of the ones who played in them .sad thing of it there will be of no more of them for of the great ones they all have gotten to old or they have died of and of no one is there to fill thier shoes anymore. Not only of that but of the ones who make and write of good movies are also not around any more .its sad but true and of it or in it i say it going too take of a long time for that of anyone to come up with half of the what we had of in it of as it was once of in that of. Making of a great movie. Like that of all thinngs they come to a end so we just watch of what we have of and maybe one day we will have of. All that we had of come back once more. But of it of who is there thats of a great actor today as it was of yesterday. I dont know of one or any do you. Its all of trash of drugs of no values or of anything that people can put of thier value in for of little to none do we today have of that im that of
The narration is being done in the style of a good old folk legend. Details like that are bound to be a bit off every now and then, and that's perfectly fine because the story itself is the part that matter. It's a period-correct kind of flaw!
One of my top five favorite movies of all time since I first saw it (edited) on the ABC Sunday Night Movie back in the mid-1970s. Knew about the alternate title, but I always assumed the original theatrical title was Emperor Of The North, and Emperor of the North Pole was the "released for TV" title.
Yes I completely agree, Hard Times is on par with Emperor of The North Pole as they both deal with the same era and have similar strong leading characters and antagonists.
JUST CAME OUT TODAY ON THE CABLE !LOVED IT STILL SO SAD !AT. A LOCAL MARKET !A FEW YEARS AGO THEY HAD A PILE. OF THIS MOVIE. IN A BIN I WANTED TO GET IT BUT WAS BUSY NOW IM SORRY !😢
Great movie.. Remember watching at the Drive-in, when it came out.. * A # 1 to Portland !!! ( I am a train person, also ...I just put up a fun "Train" story called Trains, by Reginald Gardner you may enjoy !
The scenes in the trailer to "The Emperor of the North", ruclips.net/video/5jn-ZS7g8xs/видео.html , almost perfectly match the lyrics to this video. Kinda like "Dark Side of the Moon" to "The Wizard of Oz". Put the trailer on another tab and mute the sound . Have sound on this song and start both at the same time and watch the trailer, you can thank me later just remember who found it!. Amazing to me, anyway, check it out!.
@haseihuse You do bring up a good point, but if it was done right, I could see this being a good movie to remake. If it wasn't remade using realistic scenes/scenery, then yes, it would be butchered and I wouldn't want to see a classic done that way. On location filming would be key. I would hate to see anything in this movie computer generated. It would be disrespectful.
@TommyboyGTP Lol "remade using a well picked cast" You mean: "Butchered using a modern cast". You think any modern day film can become a blockbuster without being cheap, fake, and transparent? Gone are the days of 3-d characters and realistic scenes/scenery and actors (i.e. looking perfect/without a blemish all the goddam time, without a hair out of place).
Sorry i hit of wrong button but as i was saying of no great movies being made of today for of no great actors are they same as in that of other things all things really is there of our own values have become of less in ourselfs so how is it or of how do you expect of things to be of anywhere of what they where at ome time. Untill we change of that don't expect of things to become of more than that of what they are. Of high teck will they have high teck thiersefs out of business and of look at this Country today of the shape its in .what a sad thing is it in this country is it. We have of no one that is of this country or of its people and we hsve let of it happen so no one to blame of but that of our ownselfs is there. And untill we staet to see of rhings and start to do of something about them we will.never have or be of as we once where just in things like that of movies a simple thing. Dont expect of it or things to change of on thier own its of us that hss to be of it before we can do of it or have of it again as. It onve wss for us. Iam in my 70s have seen and have had of all.the good and great things there where of so its of LITTLE to late for me to do of much for them to be of so once more but not of you the young is it now you just have to LOOK at what it was and of the why it was of in order for you to have of it. As i did .of all you have to do of .THAT OF OLD WAYS THEY WORK SAME AS THAT OF WHAT WORKED OF 5O YEARS AGO WILL STILL WORK OF TODAY SO ITS THERE ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEE OF IT THEN DO OF IT..OLD SAYING YOU DONT FIX OF SOMETHING THAT NOT BROKE YOU JUST SCREW OF IT UP IS ALL SO. THERE IS OF A START IN IT ..
I wish I had living there as this time,ok this film i vil bay soon hope I wish mi luck you will not wish mi ,well god Bay young man young woman or hvot you ar alien or moon mand or gay just bi careful 🙏 amen hi 👋 🤪.

There is no topless woman in it.
This is one of my favorite movies, also I just realized that Ernest Borgnine was also in another good old movie called Convoy.
Agreed. Also there is a goof in the narration, which says the fight occurred in 1931, but the text prologue in the movie clearly states it was 1933.
They Or Someone Obviously Screwed-up The Timeline Carl's Trains & Stuff .. .

I saw this movie the first time about 25 years ago, and a few times after that. A good movie for sure.
Uno dei più bei film che abbia mai visto !
Two great actors, two legends. RiP, boys.
Good Depression era period piece. Reminds me of Hard Times with Bronson and Coburn.
Awesome movie!

Top 10 best movies ever, and also is the best movie from the USA
Great movie. I believe if it was remade using a well picked cast, it could be a blockbuster hit.
In french we say Ernest Borgnine avait une tronche formidable' et c'était aussi un acteur formidable.
