just bought this helmet in 2020.works fantastic for everyday use in my manufacturing.i must be getting old!My knees hurt watching this!Need to invest in a welding table or hopefully you have by now!I suggest the Hobart table..works fantastic.
I have a HF welding helmet that requires no batteries but, like you, I can't see where my welds are! I think, on your recommendation, that I will get one of these Vulcan helmets! At least I will be able to see where I'm going and what the puddle looks like! That would be fantastic! THANKS for reviewing this helmet! I think you've made my choice for me! I'm disabled, to a point and can't afford a lot so a really high end helmet was always out of the question! Now, I can get something I CAN afford and still be able to SEE! Again, thanks for the review!!!
I've used it a fair bit the past week, some mig and some tig, and I'm still happy with it. The viewing area is so much larger and clearer that everything is just easier. I was at the store the other day and they actually had the helmets out on display. You could go put hands on it before you purchase if you want.
Thanks, great review, its nice to see. Also you guys who are running flux core wire in your garages, make sure you use super good ventilation, the smoke is more dangerous than you realize. If you really want to see while welding, and I mean REALLY see, dump the flux core and set up the gas, you will never go back. Of course welding in the wind, you gotta have the flux core.
I already put the gas back on, I had gotten a role of solid wire from a friend and it was garbage. Threw the flux on to get some work done, and am now running Vulcan wire. Which btw I really seem to like. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks Bud, I am looking for a welding helmet. this is the third review I have watched on this helmet. You have pretty much sold me on it. I like that you sound pretty much straight forward on this.
i felt the same way about the new kobalt hood. its amazing. btw wear gloves on both hands and wear a jacket. tumors are more common on welders than you think.
Just wanted to pass on some additional information about purchasing this helmet. Harbor Freight does not offer their traditional 20% discount coupon on any welding equipment. Sometimes they will offer a red tag sale through email such as today knocking the price down to $129+ change, however I looked on Google and found a manufacturers coupon for 20% off any Vulcan item including helmets with no expiration date, and the store honored it. So as of today I own the same helmet.
I never had issue seeing my weld area or puddle with cheapoelectric but the head band always broke in the cold weather and the poor fitting lens guards let stuff get in when cutting/grinding and ruined the arc filter ...lol... I never had one last long enough for the battery to die . I bought the Vulcan and the 15 month warranty since $150 was enough where if I break it the warranty will be worth the cash for the warranty. The head band is way better made than the $50 hobo hoods and the hood is more compact I can fit my head around the frame , roll cage tubing. And suspension links where I could not with the cheapoelectric .
I had the same helmet and ended up taking it back. Even with the shade set to 9, I could not see my weld puddle while MIG welding, but could see the puddle just fine while TIG welding with the shade set at 11 or 12.
been using mine about a week now and i love it. i have plenty of quality helmets and this is comparable. best bang for your buck. i got mine so im not tearing my higher dollar ones up in the tanks at work
I admire your excitement for a new helmet...LOL, it's like Lasik without the pain and cost!!!! Plus,, 5:30 I learned about the pulse welding time setting.... Thanks man, never thought!!...COOL!! and you flipped through the manual!!!! even though you said, Who reads manuals, its good to look!!
I like how much visibility u have thru the big glass. However it's been junk for tig welding for me. It'll auto dark for a few dabs and then the dark shade goes away and blinds the shit out of me. Lucky if I can get a couple dabs in before the auto dark starts flickering back and forth. Tried replacing batteries, leaving out in the sun to charge and it still flickers on and off. It's so annoying.
I have a harbor fright Chicago Electric Welded helmet and it works great for what I use it for I mig weld and my Chicago electric welding helmet works awesome
I had the same reaction that you had when I first used the exact same Vulcan helmet. I had a $39 Lincoln Electric helmet. That was like welding in the blind - couldn't see much of anything (my eyesight is bad to begin with). I started getting arc flashes and destroyed it when I tried to replace the battery. I'd buy it again HF doesn't always sell low quality stuff.
I got one a ways back, and think its one of the best out there. I think HF is poised to eliminate Lincoln and Hobart on all regards, so far so good with all their new stuff.
Looks like a copy of Lincoln 3350.....Hope it runs longer than my 3350 did! Think I'll buy Swiss made this time around...Optrel! Whats a set of "eyeballs" worth?
I. Kinda remember you making. Your helmet for the battries a long time ago that's when I was trying to figure out how to change the battries in my helmet
I have this helmet and I absolutely love it next for me is to find out the size and where I can get cheater lenses for this helmet if anyone knows I'd love to hear from them but as far as buying this helmet there should be no concerns go get one you won't be sorry
I just use a cheap set of readers from the drugstore. Same idea, and you don't have to limit yourself to only being able to see through one section of the helmet. No more head-gymnastics trying to use the cheaters. Plus it's less than $10.
Brian, LIke you I am using my old HF welding helmet. It has served me well however,, I would like to upgrade.I plan to purchase this helmet next week. My question is,can you turn off the sensor to keep the battery charged? My old helmet had a rotary switch that you could turn off the sensor. Can you do this with this new helmet?Great review. I wish others would do reviews like yours,Ken
I had the Cheap HF helmet. It worked good for about 4 years. The batteries died and I ended up buyIng a new one on EBay for about $40.00. Replaceable batteries, full size screen, and full adjustments. The CCP knockoff market is cutthroat. Once US Mtg sent the first operation over there everything, and I mean everything, they took with them was copied and is now being made by slave labor. Patents mean nothing. Once you set up the operation it is cheap to just run it. Hi end, low end, one plant makes it all.
The Vulcan line seems to be decent and fits with HF selling better products. I can't see paying $149.99 for an unproven product when you can get Miller (my son, a professional welder uses one at work) or Lincoln for $100+.
We have a couple of old 2x4 lens helmets that no one ever uses any more. He does not complain abut the Miller, Classic or the pipeliner since he cut the bottom part off of the pipeliner. They tend to come down so far that you can't really look down because the helmet hits your chest. It is common practice to cut them off and put a piece of leather hanging down. He has used the Miller as a fitter for 6 years and had to replace the rubber headband strap once or twice. He does complain about my $34 HF helmet but he uses it some times.
In order to get equivalent features in a lincoln or miller you will be above $300. I’ve owner a Hobart in the $150ish range (the lens separated internally), used a friends mid priced miller, even used a 3m speedlens, and would still pick the Vulcan again.
And nothing I've had Miller Elites I spent $500 on Millers I've had speedglas this Vulcan welding hood has the best lens that I have ever used and I've been welding 40 years I'm a pipe welder used to be a competition welder back in the 80s and I can tell you this is one badass little Hood
oh look 4 sensor technology of Viking 3350 from Lincoln Electric for $250 - Oh never mind -> it's just some Cheap Vulcan from Harbor freight for $150. Tell me there is a big Difference cause I have Viking 3350 - Lincoln Electric do you have some explanations on Your New Exciting technology ?
Nice review Rob. If I start with the helmet, then maybe I can use it to justify getting a welder so my wife doesn't bitch me out. LOL Just kiddng. I don't weld, but I'd love to learn to "cobble" too.
Like the helmet EXCEPT it says that it has a cheater lens which is why I bought it. IT DOES NOT! Called harbor freight to hear they are working on one BUT have no idea when you can purchase the lens.
Mine is junk it is shuttering and if you barely bump it it fades in and out. I even replaced battery with a new fresh one. I may have got a lemon one I was trying to go cheap over the Lincoln one but I believe I am returning mine I cannot trust this helmet. Anyone else had any problems after having there’s for a while now? I purchased mine mainly because it did have a lot of good reviews online with a good price for features. I wonder what type of electronics are in it or if my high frequency arc starts are messing with the electronics on it.
Updated I went and got a Viking 3350 a 100 more it is a copy far as looking like shell and head gear is close but it isn’t exact the Vulcan shell is flimsy or thinner it may not be a bad thing but mine was junk maybe a lemon. The clarity and color looks a lot better on the Viking no shuttering or fading in out or flashing on tig hf start or pulsing. For a 100 bucks more and a 3 year warranty the Viking in my book is way better. But if the Vulcan works for you that’s great. For anyone that wants to try it I have to say hf had no questions asked or hassle to return the Vulcan helmet. I went off reviews of the Vulcan because it got a lot of good ones and I wanted to give it a try but after I did I honestly would say get the lincoln you be glad you did. But hey my Vulcan didn’t work and that was my experience. So try it for yourself and see it may work for you. Thank you all for the reviews you guys put out there.
i always stick or mig weld. ive had no problems with mine. i use it inside the tanks at work where it gets beat up more. use my miller digital infinity for everything else
Couple of other reviews say this helmet fails after about a year of use. Let us know how yours holds up. Same for all you guys who said they also had one.
that was hard to watch. To start i actually have the lincoln 3350 just like the vulcan. The vulcan looks nice and i think you made the right choice. But every hood looks clear and crisp at the start. I am confidant the vulcan is a fine hood, but its not that amazing. ive had the Viking 3350 for years and used plenty of others. Several co workers have the crappy H.F. blue hood you started with. Ive borrowed theirs and they are fine hoods. The vulcan vs. traditional H.F. hoods are not that different other than comfort and view space. Clarity is a small difference. Color may be a fun difference. Every hood gets foggy, scratched and filmy. Especially the more work you do.
@ The first generation Ai speech recognition welding helmet and you are interetsed in my helmet so you could ask eastwood about my helmet more information
Look up Vulcan harbor freight coupon on Google. Theres one in images that never expires for 20% off and they took it off my phone. Brought it down to $119.
Miller classic helmet sucked. Could never see the puddle. Sold it and bought Vulcan helmet and it wa all the difference in the world. If your on the fence, just get it
I learned to weld from my father who was a pipe and structural steel welder. Needless to say all I ever got to use was his really dark shaded hoods with built in construction helmet. Welding with an auto darkening hood is light years better. I've been using this hood exclusively since posting this and I'm still impressed.
when i was a kid many moons ago i was using a mask that was the wrong shade a got a welders flash so bad i cant go outside without my perspiration dark sun glasses
Oh you guys at said it's a knock off you're kidding me right cuz that is nothing like the Lincoln hood nothing the lens is different yes the shell of the Vulcan is rubbery but it's way lighter than the Lincoln and it's better bottom line say what you want to I've had them all the Vulcans the best for the money
Is it just me or does this guy sound like the most downtrodden, depressed dude ever? Every sentence sounds like he is describing a big letdown :) . Appreciate the video though
Love it just as much as my Lincoln and the warranty is awesome I melted the sensors carbon arcing and walked in and the replaced to no questions asked
just bought this helmet in 2020.works fantastic for everyday use in my manufacturing.i must be getting old!My knees hurt watching this!Need to invest in a welding table or hopefully you have by now!I suggest the Hobart table..works fantastic.
Thank you for your service. Sorry for the fallen brothers. From one vet to another. Great review, going to pick this baby up.
Welcome home

Coupon code 32881304 is good for 20% off Vulcan accessories till 10/31/2017
i have a hf cheapo helmet too, can't see a damn thing. will be getting one of these for sure
Thanks, great review, its nice to see. Also you guys who are running flux core wire in your garages, make sure you use super good ventilation, the smoke is more dangerous than you realize. Got one a few days ago, I'm honestly surprised with how good it is
Just got 1 today. Best hood I've ever used by far so far
Thank you for a great review. I wasn’t sure but now I will pick one up. Vulcan should be very happy. You made the sale

👍👍This helped me decide on Vulcan over Chicago electric. I needed a spare helmet while we figure out why my Hobart isn’t dimming.
I had a hobart, used it maybe a dozen times and the lens separated internally. Never again.

Thanks bud. After watching your review i picked up the same one. Silly question. Mid welding you stopped and changed something. What did you adjust?
I got one of these last year, Worth every $$$,Enjoyed your video/humor.
Good thing I watched. Couldn’t figure how to put the battery in
I have a harbor fright Chicago Electric Welded helmet and it works great for what I use it for I mig weld and my Chicago electric welding helmet works awesome

Does this helmet still working
Looks like you have the same craftsman machine I own. What Brand flux core wire do you recommend for this machine? Thanks
I had this on 1.5 the speed and it seemed like normal speed. 😁 Nice review though - thank you!
The Vulcan Commander 225 is an exact copy of the Miller Thunderbolt. They will copy anyone like the Behringer of the welding world.
I had the Cheap HF helmet. It worked good for about 4 years. The batteries died and I ended up buyIng a new one on EBay for about $40.00. Replaceable batteries, full size screen, and full adjustments.

Repair video of old helmet? Cost of new helmet?
Awesome, helpful video. Thank you. I had just bought the same helmet.
is it still workin for u? i just got one
Nice review, but I have a question. My eyes are gone and need 250 cheaters. Will they fit inside the helmet?
ive burnt 100+ pounds of wire and 50+ pounds of rods through mine. i like it alot. IMO i think its a direct copy of the lincoln lens.
Is the arc light blue?
The Vulcan line seems to be decent and fits with HF selling better products. I can't see paying $149.99 for an unproven product when you can get Miller (my son, a professional welder uses one at work) or Lincoln for $100+.

Thanks for the review Im gunna have to get me one now !!
great helmet for the price, just remember to turn it off when not in use. then the batteries will last a long time.
Big Ron Waggles there’s no power switch. It’s auto.
Where did you get a 20% vulcan coupon? I have checked for the last year and every coupon excluded vulcan (and other brands)
markman63 I think you can only get them if you buy a Vulcan welder. That’s where I got mine
get the harbor freight coupon app
Link no longer works. Harbor Freight changed their site. Just go to Harbor Freight site and search for 63749 (the model #).
you can get true color eastwood at half the price with all the controls on the outside.
You don't want none of your adjustments on the outside you want everything on the inside if you're a professional welder just saying
And nothing I've had Miller Elites I spent $500 on Millers I've had speedglas this Vulcan welding hood has the best lens that I have ever used and I've been welding 40 years I'm a pipe welder used to be a competition welder back in the 80s and I can tell you this is one badass little Hood

Always run my AD helmet @ 12. I dunno, 9 seems a touch light, just sayin'.
Was on the fence about this... Going to give it a try.
Thanks for posting & the advise.
No doubt $99 Vulcan knock-offs are just as safe as the $400 version. And if not who cares, It’s only your vision LOL.
I just bought one of these today !!
When you get some time under the hood you'll have to let us know what you think.
AverageGuyAntics i sure will !!
Nice review Rob. If I start with the helmet, then maybe I can use it to justify getting a welder so my wife doesn't bitch me out. LOL Just kiddng. I don't weld, but I'd love to learn to "cobble" too.
Any excuse to buy new tools is a good excuse.
How is the hood working on your low amp Tig welding?
Works great, have yet to be flashed
Like the helmet EXCEPT it says that it has a cheater lens which is why I bought it. IT DOES NOT! Called harbor freight to hear they are working on one BUT have no idea when you can purchase the lens.
Any cheater lens will fit directly inside. I have one set in mine.
Thanks for the review I will be picking one up this weekend 🤗
As you get older you can buy magnifiers for your helmet to help you see
A cheater lens still wouldn't help clarity.
AverageGuyAntics that's why they call them magnifiers
A cheater lens is a magnifier lens for your hood. ruclips.net/video/QH8blPm_DPE/видео.html
I tried that and found I was better off wearing my 1.50 glasses instead.
What kind of welder is that he’s using?
Craftsman. Looks like a Lincoln 150 clone
AverageGuyAntics: what I meant was: tig? MiG? Etc
Flux core MIG
I would not weld on a 9 very min 10 prob 12 with a Cheepo helmet
A direct knock off of the Lincoln Viking 3350
So? Does it work? Yes? Good plan.
and $100 cheaper. i love mine!

Ill be your huckleberry, first sub!
How much did helmet cost ??
I think I payed right at $100, I had a 20% off coupon for Vulcan products.
Couple of other reviews say this helmet fails after about a year of use. Let us know how yours holds up. Same for all you guys who said they also had one.
Not sure how they could say that considering it hasn't even been out a year. I dunno, but I'll post back if mine tanks.
Robert Coyle Like to know how they tested this since helment hasnt been out a year far as I know.
Bull shit fucking haters
Great video. Cheers mate

How much is it

You can no longer use the 20% off coupon on Vulcan items.
If your on the fence, just get it
Ugh, I got arc flash through my cell phone! 😨😄 going to have to wear a welding hood watching welding videos.
Average guy? Dude you kinda look like Ben Aflack
Im not a fan of auto darkening but im actually thinking of buying this one
I learned to weld from my father who was a pipe and structural steel welder. Needless to say all I ever got to use was his really dark shaded hoods with built in construction helmet. average guy works on the floor....
average guys work were they must. I had to much crap piled on my welding table at the time.
