I used the $49 helmet for probably half a dozen years before it finally quit. I decided to step up to a $300 helmet with all the bells and whistles. It came with two dead batteries 🤣🤣
Just bought this as my first hood. I'm a bit of a newbie at wielding and I was told to never cheap out when it comes to eye protection. So I watched this IN THE STORE before I bought it. The headgear is super comfortable, on par with the 3350 Viking I'd borrow. I too like to have my shade a bit on the lighter side. Was hoping for the shade to be that blue/white rather than green (personal preference) but so far, man is this thing comfy. Great review.
I have one of these myself (15 y/o sophomore in High School. I will say this is the best helmet I’ve came across. Looking forward to using it for years
Just bought this helmet. It seems way better than the cheap one i bought from HF 12 yrs ago. The old one didnt have the dial on the shade setting on mine just a switch...way better on the new one.
It's bad ass and one could wear sunglasses to offset clarity as well. Mines the same just stars and stripes. I like the setting for face distances for air flow. A thought I had was wearing a neck fan wally world sells or online where the airs pulled from the front to blown out the top. Great review
When welding, breathe in your mouth out your nose. Blows the hot moist air down away from the shield. Also I noticed when you were welding you were pulling your bead (dragging) which is necessary for flux core but with mig it works better to point it straight down or even better slightly push your puddle (point the tip slightly in the direction you're headed
I've never used an auto-darkening mask. I imagine it might be nice!!! Instead I learned how to adjust the hinge JUST RIGHT so I can flip my head and get the mask to come down LOL. Plus there's that moment of total darkness before you strike an arc..... Very nice tool.
@@TheBeardedGiant Same here big man! Just putting mine together, and could not figure where the battery went, or how to install it! My last helmet was Solar powered, & I never checked for a battery. Just figured it was time to up-grade. Now, let me go install the battery! Thanks
Just want to mention that CAT CRAP anti fog works great for keeping your safety glasses as well as your welding shield from fogging up. It can be purchased from most welding supply shops.
Nice to see HF has a nice helmet now. Could tell just by the video that the available light (pre-darkened) is great. Time to replace the crummy $50 HF helmet.
thanks walking through installations and usage. the damn companies dont tell you how to install these craps these days for the love peete . Thanks giant
My first video watching you. Good review. I also have that welding hood. Compared to some Miller hoods I've used, and the Lincoln Viking hood, I would say it's a strong contender! I use it every day at work (I'm a welder). In my opinion, it's secretly a gem of as hood for half the price of the big name brand hoods. The Viking has a slight different tints color, but is similar. The other hoods are also maybe slightly larger for viewing window, but the size of the Vulcan is still in competing range.
Nice video... would've liked to see a closeup of your actual settings. Bought one and I'm going to try it out... just getting back into welding so its a learning process. Thanks for sharing your video.
I never liked those auto helmets, for the reason if the sensor is shadowed for any reason you get flashed, Flash burn sucks ! but now in resent light of I'm getting OLD, I have glasses that I never had while welding for a living, bifocals at that. UGH ! anyways I recently welded up a stainless exhaust for friend, I have a Huntsman picture window helmet, the whole flipping it down and trying to see through the bottom of my glasses SUCKED ! I looked at that helmet not to long ago and thought I should probably get one, the whole moving my head around to see through the progressives makes me want the bigger window, I'm sure they've worked most of the bugs out of those by now. Thanks for the review !Doug
The auto darks have their place. Mainly in the shop or in an open area type setting. Welding in a pipe rack, tight spaces or with obstacles/obstructions, the fixed single shade filters are the way to go (unless you enjoy the flashburn). Blinking lights, like off a damn JLG, sets those auto darks off flashing and that gets annoying real quick.
Ha ha ha...obviously I'm a fat guy, so I sweat a lot! Awesome. Great review Andrew. Sometimes things are a blessing in disguise, leaving your old helmet at my house.
You mention how much you like the helmet. I just bought one today Jan 2020. am sure I will like it too. The problem I find with harbor freight stuff is not how good it is or works but, how long it lasts. Your video is a year old. Not sure how much you have used it but, how about a report on it now ( one year after you posted this )? How long it lasts is the real determiner of value. so much of this stuff works great but, they are not made to last- they want you to buy another in a year or 2, etc. Me? I am hoping this is my last welding helmet purchase. if it is that good. time will tell. thank you for posting this.
Hello, helmet looks great.... Darth Vader lol. OH yes that helmet dose remind me of that, but it is all good. Thank you for sharing and have a safe, warm and wonderful weekend.
That is so cool! So different than my daddy’s welding helmets he had. When I was you g ide go down to the shop and he let me wear a helmet and let me help him weld :) great memories :) Bahahaha! Luke... I am your fatha!!! Love it !!
@@TheBeardedGiant I wish i could get my hands on my daddy's welding stuff, but my uncle took over the shop which they shared when my daddy passed on, and i guess.... he is using it. The Bearded Giant cool, my ears are sensitive so I used over ear protection when grinding. Maybe not a feature I personally would benefit from. Unless I find plugs I like.
Only if you choose to be stupid and continue to weld that way... lol - Seriously though, immediately stopped welding and replace the battery and you should be fine.
For those of you that have this helmet, how long ago did you purchase it and how has it held up? What has been your durability experience? Does any of the fastening system wear out quickly? Thanks for any replies

Hey man, harbor freights latest ad features your video! youre like Joe Rogan now with fuck you money! unable to go in public for fear of weirdos coming up to you begging for a selfie while youre trying to use a public restroom 😂👍🏽 you made it man!😉
That is what I hate about my grandpa's helmets I can't see through them and I don't know where I am at to start welding. It might be why I am guessing they were cheap too. Gramps says he is Scotch for a reason. lol
Dude, it is like a welding virtual reality mask!! I'll be honest, I had no idea welding masks had come along so far!!
It is really nice. Visibility is amazing
Omg go to millers website and check out their digital elite series, they have crazy features but you have to take out a loan to buy one of them
My husband bought this helmet and it came w/NO instructions...You answered EVERYTHING he was questioning...thank you so much.
Get a cheap welder to learn on, but get the best hood because new eyeballs aren't easily replaceable.
I have had. This
vulcan welding hood for one year now I have been welding for 40 years best hood I have ever owned
And affordable
I used the $49 helmet for probably half a dozen years before it finally quit. I decided to step up to a $300 helmet with all the bells and whistles. It came with two dead batteries 🤣🤣
I will eventually get my $49 helmet back and it will be a backup/guest helmet. Bummer on the battery, kinda figures

I dont know if someone mentioned this, but the delay is how fast it goes from dark back to light. Not how fast it darkens
Delay is how long after the arc ends the shade stays on.
That design is identical to the Lincoln Viking hood all the way down to the head gear. That's crazy

My old helmet has the small opening with no settings just up n down manually haha. It will be on the shelf
Thanks for the video .I like my new welding helmet.your much better than trying to decider the Chinese instructions!

I like them, but they last about a year in the field. First the flickering, occasionally quitting on you, and eventually dying.
Exactly what I was looking for thanks for including instructions!

Sure thing, I like it so far
I just bought this and a titanium 170 mig welder
Have fun and may you create some cool and useful things
The true test would be if you can tig with it. Mainly if the sensitivity can be turned up enough to stay on when you hit those lower amps.
Not sure if I could tig with it. I started out with a flux core only and have upgraded to Mig with gas. one of these days I will give tig a go.
Yes, im a tig welder and it works just as well
