I think it really says something about the game when the community is saying "Guys, you need to monetize MORE" I regret forgetting to buy the KDA pass back in the day, I have completed it but missed on the deadline to buy it so I lost all the cool stuff that came with it. I'd love to have a chance to buy the stuff I missed, even if it's for only the few things I was interested in.
I like Pyke and Ekko's sand skins because they are meant to be played alongside Shurima champions, so matching skins for champions that are often played together sounds like an awesome idea! ALSO YES PLS FOLLOWER SKINS!!
Follower skins are 100% needed the deck doesnt feel cohesive without it, the randomized favorites has been asked for in league for years, and the animated champion cards are a fun nod back to the days the champion splasharts were animated on theold league client
In the official seasonal live streams you get to see animated cards while you wait for the next match. For the longest time I just assumed they were slowing going through all the cards and just chose a couple to showcase in the videos and eventually you could acquire them somehow in game
The problem I hear from a lot of people is that things are too damn expensive for the value they give, especially compared to the pass. 700 coins for a jpeg in a specific deck? hell nah I WANT to buy skins, a lot of them in fact, but I cant justify buying them.
This always struck me as very weird. Wheres all the aggressive monetization riot puts in their other games? It feels like riot is just giving the lor team the bare minimum to work with. Imma send this video to everyone on twitter to see if they get the message. I want to spend money on this game, but i need a better reason to do so. Please riot.
Thanks so much for sending it around! And yeah, LoR always feels SO fair both in game and cosmetics. If the game is SUPER easy to get into; introduce more things to pay for!
I hope Riot implements some of these ideas since I actually got excited about buying some of them! Glad some one posted this video to Reddit so I can see it now. At this point I would be down to subscribe to a Legends of Runeterra Patreon just to give them money!
From an outsider MTG players perspective, I'm genuinely surprised a lot of these aren't already in place. Magic, especially over the last few years have gone absolutely HAM on making Full arts, set-themed card borders, alternate foils and even exactly what your talking about with Champ spells (or planeswalker spell books) It's not uncommon for MTG players who play older formats to have $1000 + DECKS let alone collections so the money is definitely there if Riot needs it to be. TCG Players are a very, very loyal player base in most cases - I mean Kudos to riot for not being that aggressive for sure, but if the future of the game is put into question I'm positive the hardcore base would rather pay to keep it going.
Well said! And while theres alot I dont like in MTG's monetization given the high barrier of entry into the game, LoR doesnt have those barriers and I think it should push monetization just a little more!
On existing animated card assets, you can also see animated champion art during the official tournament stream downtimes (we will be back in 10 minutes). I always thought these would find their way into the game!
Imho there are more avenues for monetizing the game not just during the playing experience. In Wild Rift (LoL mobile) the level of account/profile customizations is astounding. Monetize banners, profìle icons, borders, titles, simple animated profile backgrounds, etc. I kinda also want the champions to have simple on-summon animations/flairs much like how Shadowverse does it with their legendary rarity cards, or even just a png/live2d of the champion's faces flashing on screen to differentiate them from followers. I'd buy those in a heartbeat. Same goes for champion specific spells. Maybe put erected banners with our icons on our board so we feel more personalized. That's another way of monetizing it. Honestly, the nexus skins can be monetized as well unless it's not programmed to be able to accomodate skins. Idk
I would like the Shyvana firing eye emote. It was exclusive from a bundle and its painful because I love it. Rotating legacy cosmetics is a thing to consider.
Very good ideas being brought here, it's actually eye opening to me that, you're right, there's really not much reason to buy more boards, card backs or guardians if you only use 1 in a given match. My biggest reason personally for not spending more in this game is really the way you get coins being very obtuse and the prize on cosmetic in general being a bit steep. I want to pay x amount and get x coints out of it, I don't like being forced to choose between say 400 and 800 coins when I only need 600. The F2P is amazing in this game, but in terms of monetization it's a heavy wall to go through and I believe only the most dedicated and abled would do so. Yugioh is a horrible role model for a game, so is Master Duel which is their digital client, but they do have one thing that's quite cool. They have 1 currency in the game, only 1, called gems. You can't buy cards directly (which is horrible), but gems can be used to buy packs, boards, card backs, most guardians, among other things. You can either get gems through normal play, which takes an investment in time, or you can buy preset packs like in LoR. Now LoR can't just have one currency, the shards and wildcards work great, but having some way to gain a couple of coins through a weeks play (whatever makes sense) I feel could anchor people to more readily buy and spend on coins, because if they've already collected 200 coins through regular play, then they're more readily open to spend on the 400 coin option to buy the 600 coin skin (these are purely examples, I know skins are atleast 700). Not only do you lock your playerbase in, you also give an option for those who are less keen on spending money to mix and match time investment and spending money. The more you play, the more of an investment you feel is in the game, the more you're ready to invest further.
I like the idea of gifts because I keep trying to get new people into the game and I’d like to get them caught up enough to have more options when deck building
I would like if we could select the music of our boards separately, also I missed a lot of events and I love icons, they should add icon bundles or something.
I always wondered why LoR dont have an equivalent of Boom effects from TFT. Y’know the effects from sand soldiers when hit the board and fire off sand spears? Make more of that. Ex thunderbolt that strikes the nexus from the skies. Or lasers. Etc. Edit: heck you can even make the guardians shoot the effect themselves. That makes the value for the guardians even better.
I been having this idea for a while. but boards that interact with actionss is something I been craving. SPECIALY SKIN BOARDS hear me out. what do people like most in Lor.. the champions right? so when making a board champion it should be like making skins for champions in league. (the high quality) imagine if when you were using the garen board it had intwractions with different spells and actions like judgement, rally, ir when you level up garen imagine the sword in the board lifts up and does the spin judgment animation. this next one does not exit but imagine gangplank board it has gp and a couple of cannons whenever you parley, or warning shot, or riptide Rex, or with gp level up ability it just shoots from those cannons on the board how cool would that be
I know it won't happen to LOR probably, but I remember a mobile moba I used to play called Vainglory that was too f2p friendly and was losing money so that they decided to rapidly monetize the game. Guess the community didn't like it since the game fell off in players in a couple years or so
Gifting someone could also add a new layer to the emote meta. Imagine getting stomped by someone and then they send you something like the GP peeling an orange emote. That's some premium BM'ing.
if card art animation like gwent is too much to ask, just parallax effect like in mtga is enough. also prismatic is sooo lame, imho. also good addition is player title below their username, like in gwent. so if you play trundle 1000x you will get "troll king" title, or something. also different username frame
It is really weird that they don't make new prismatic styles, They only need to make 6-7 card style for each category (units, landmarks, champions, lvl2 chmpions, slow spells etc) and bam you completed all the cards for that style
I would LOVE the idea of bringing event based cosmetics back, theres a guardian i want to go along with void board but cant buy it so i bought final stage board instead :(
I think one problem with the updating level up animations is the community is pretty split between like the new lv animations or the old ones so teemo and probably karma were good examples of ones people might buy but at least personally I think Braun’s is still a fine lv up animation and (at least personally) vlad is still better then some of the newer ones
I always thought it would be cool if riot would start making a ultimate skin and board! Maybe something like dj sona whenever shes relased! Maybe riot could make more interactive board for both sides to play with and let the user add their own customizations and music! Just like in league of legends ultimate skins, could give mutlitple animations and voicelines! A monthly community rated emote in the shop could also be pretty fun!
One thing I know League has but Runeterra doesn't is just store sales. It would be nice if some skins there were on sale, or personalized based on decks/champions you play, much like again with League.
9:46 I would actually pay to have more level ups like Teemo, Garen, Katarina They are not just a video and feel like a part of the game Although some of the videos are also good
I guess they aren't making big money on this game so they don't even bother? It really is strange to me, that this game doesn't want to earn money, and that is about the only logical explenation I have. Good vid btw!
Maybe you aren't away but LOR's monetization is bad by design as riot had previous said this game was supposed to be a loss leader the brings people into more riot properties
Even if LoR is design as loss leader, the improvement for the game can bring in new players and keep the current player base happy. Nothing good can come out of it by giving up monetizing the game just because it's a loss leader. The goal of any company is money
OR, they could also create a pve paid gamemode completly different from poc Where you create your own deck based on the champion and with real difficult bosses and it would also pushes the lore and you get cool and unique rewards. Like Hearthstones
Really important message to spread to keep this game going. Thank you for bringing this to a wider audience Roy. Hopefully the devs are listening
A dev actually specifically requested to see this video when it was done! So they definitely are!

Absolutely, this game is the one card game that takes good will to another level and runs with it.
the fact there was no panthoen or aphelios board with their theme is so tragic
Factual, also Jhin and Sion have incredible themes to use on a board.
There was no chance of us getting a Panthoen board with ahri being releashed in the same set.
@@travisprescott9708 thats kinda the whole point of this video aint it, only 1 board? Especially if they have a popular theme.
If every spider got it's own skin I would buy all of them without hesitation.
I would do the same but I'd do it for lurkers

I need to interact with players more than this. like add most recent opponent. showing the whole ID of the opponent instead of just the tag etc.
