Wow! I didn’t expect it to have that much of a difference in weight. When it popped open I said “ it’s dry”😂 Cool experiment Steve. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻
Would love to see more of his kiln . On our moisture meter ol means it’s to wet to even read the moisture level but it’s probably different than most others . Just got home from the Paul Bunyan show and I see we have a package from ya sitting next to the door .
Thanks for watching. I want to make a kiln that will run off my boiler. Just hard to spend the time and money with a friend down the street who has a kiln!
hi there i weight alot of wood ,it is amazing the amount of water loss . now change it to BTU's it takes to turn it to steam to get it out of your boiler , about 1000 per pound .as i recall.good show john
Hey Steve. Pretty awesome for sure. I watched another channel kiln dry wood and its amazing the weight difference and low moisture level. Thanks for showing your experience with the kiln drying firewood.
Did I hear you correct that this was in the kiln for 2 days? No way at 150 degrees it got down to single digit moisture. I thought on those moisture meters "OL" meant over limit, which is 50%+. A test fire will tell all you need to know. I think you'll see quite a bit of water bubbling out the end still.
It was in there for about three and a half days. The kiln is not 150 it is the core temp of the wood and the wood was there for about 48 hours. The weight does not lie. That wood lost 30 gallons of moisture in that kiln. It is dry as any wood I've seasoned for two years outside.
The next Q is: after kiln drying, will wood reabsorb moisture / humidity? What if homeowner leaves firewood out in rain; can it ever recover to the 'kiln dried numbers'?
That would be a good experiment. It is my understanding that the moisture from rain does not re absorb into the wood the same way. What was dried was the moisture the tree sucked up through it's roots when it wa alive. Once that is gone rain water will just wet the surface and dry right away. That tote in this video sat outside and got rained on (not allot) and it was bone dry in a couple hours.
You’re right It’s amazing how much water is in wood. You’re spoiling your guests with this “Premo” dry wood. Although, this dry wood is an insurance policy for anyone trying to burn green wood and get creosote in your chimney.. Safe travels👍TCt

Thanks for watching! I wonder if Oak would have the same difference

I think there will be more kiln action in my future.
We just got a shipping container to turn into a kiln. Right after we’re done using it on this lot clearing job lol Love the show and the content.

Crazy the difference in weight. Appreciate the info Steve!! Ain’t nothing like having buddies with useful resources!!
No doubt!
That was cool to see the difference! Pretty amazing👍👍
I didn't think it would be that much.
Turtlewood wants a kiln for drying the firewood. Great informational video.
fast tracks the seasoning process for sure!

yeah I was surprised (probably shouldn't have been) No wonder seasoned oak is so much easier to load when its been sitting out for two years!

Yeah I was shocked!
Very cool, I didn't know it would only take a couple days to really dry the wood out that much.
yeah I thought it would take longer but I guess you can really give it the beans when it's firewood
That is crazy…thanks for sharing that info. Great job
Thanks for watching!
excellent . . . well done and thumbs up 👍🙏💪
Awesome, thank you!
That's great. I keep kicking around the idea of getting a kiln, but.....$$$$
No doubt. Everything is so damn expensive!

That's my thought. I don't want them cramming crap out of the woods in the stove!
