Will try hot gluing 2 pieces of wood to cut identical pieces! Just learned of another trick with brad nails but wont work for the smaller pieces, but this will! Thanks Linn!
Carol, the pyramids are to raise the work piece off the work surface when finishing so you can better get at the lower agles and not have the piece stick to the table as the finish dries.
I use hot glue ALL THE TIME. I repair my rc planes with it, waterproof electronics etc. Its amazing. I even use it when I want to make sure a splice is super strong, first I strip both ends of wire, then wrap each join, then solder, then I cover in hot glue! Its great because it make the join stronger, protects the solder from breaking, makes it water proof AND insulates it! I use a bosch hot glue gun, it's brilliant!
Really interesting ideas - my father was a bookbinder and used hot glue routinely in that trade. He encouraged me to transfer this to woodworking (my trade) and the results were terrific. Hot glues joints - well clamped - provide great bonds! I was really interested in your supporting pyramids - this has made me want to experiment with moulding of shapes with hot glue for my model making!
We added 1/10 of hot glue to our wedding invitations sealing wax to make it less brittle and to survive posting. It also sticked to the envelope much better. We melted the wax and hot glue in a tealight tin over a stove.
Steve French Thanks Steve! Yes, I've been using the hot glue gun when it comes to attaching LED lights in general to things lately and it's been working nicely,
I recently got a new hot melt glue gun and have much better luck with it than the 80's vintage one we had. I use a dab to hold pegboard hooks in place.
Some great tips in there Linn! I also use Hot glue to mount small parts on a faceplate for turning on a lathe, and for securing parts for routing too. It's maybe worth pointing out that it's best to get a gun that actually gets pretty hot, as some can be under powered and not get the glue hot enough to melt it properly for the best holding power. These also lead to the glue drying too fast.
Good point Richard. I have had a baby gun for years which has been pretty useless - basically the glue dries about half a second after it leaves the nozzle. Time to upgrade, methinks :)
***** Thanks Richard! I would agree with that. It's quite annoying to work with a hot gun that doesn't get hot enough. Another example of why it's usually a good idea to get better quality.
Great tips. Turners use hot glue a lot to temporary hold a project to a piece of sacrificial wood attached to the headstock. They also sell different types of hot glue which vary in holding strength. I use hot glue when I am stack cutting on both the scrollsaw and like you did on the bandsaw. My wife and daughter use it for scrap book work. Pretty versatile tool. I think I have 4 or 5 laying around that I picked up from thrift stores. Thanks for even more ideas on their use.
Jim Coogan Thanks Jim. That's a good tip. Overall, hot glue is great for temporarily holding something in place. Yes, it's a very popular tool in the craft world, but I thought that it needs to get a little more attention in the wood working world too :)
Hello Darbin, I have watched and enjoyed many of your videos not realizing I never subscribed. Please forgive me. I am now a subscriber. You have some very interesting and informative videos. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great ideas. The only problem I have with hot glue is when I make something for outdoors if the weather is really hot specially at summer time the hot glue softens very much even under a shadowy place. if I glue L.E.D.'s the L.E.D. strip gets hot and the hot glue almost melts. Any ideas? are there hot glue sticks for specific work? thank you.
Nice vid Linn. I only started using a hot glue gun in my shop a few years ago, and I've seen a few years go by, because I didn't realize how strong and simple it is.
Donnie G It is surprisingly strong! Actually I thought it would be fun to do a video where I really test the strength of hot glue compared to other types of glues. So hopefully I'll have that out soon.
A whole bunch of neat tricks :) I like the fact that your channel has so many various tips and topics .. and you are presenting them in a great and clear manner! bra jobbat .. :)
That was a great Tutorial Darbin great tips, I use a glue gun quite a bit and found this video very helpful, " Subscribed" Thank you for putting up a very helpful video.. Thank you for sharing...
cool video. Here is another hot glue hack: If you want to get rid of hot glue joint easily just spray it with isopropyl alcohol. It will loose most of it's stickiness. works like a charm.
Some great ideas! Only problem I have with hat glue is the strings it creates. Like your mad scientist coat. Thanks fo your hard work in creating and sharing your projects.
Good Afternoon. I really enjoyed watching and learning various methods to using a hot glue gun. I do have a question. I am about to start small business making hair accessories for infant/toddler girls. Hot glue is the key to accessory. As a beginner with hot glue guns, what would you recommend as a safe brand for me to start with?
Forgot to add: check the glue stick labelling carefully, there are a variety of formulations some of which are not water resistant, some are low temperature (usually craft store sticks) and others are designed to stick special materials and may require special preparation or just cost a lot more than what you really need. If you are having trouble with the glue sticking another thing to look for is the temperature of what you are sticking together - if its cold then the glue will harden too soon and form a weak joint so consider warming up your project in the sun, with a hair dryer or whatever. Been there, done that too. :-)
Great video. I've always wanted to learn more about adhesives but it seems to be a very complicated subject, and I don't want to have 20 different glue products at home. Maybe I should buy a hot glue gun. Is hot glue the best general purpose adhesive, and is there anything it won't stick? Thanks.
My most used application for hot glue: mold simple connectors. *Hot glue won't stick to baking paper*, at least it worked with all the slightly translucent paper types (the brownish one wasn't working as well). I solder wires to pins of normal pin headers for example, then put a small dab of hot glue on the baking paper and push the connector in. I try to use an amount of glue so the connector is half done. *This is the most important part* don't try to remove or even move anything until the glue is cold. If you move the paper on still soft glue it will stick even after it has become cold. I then remove the cold connector, put another dab of glue on the paper and push the other side in. After cooling I now have two quite flat sides and the excess left and right can be cut away with flush trim cutters (works much better than a knife). The result looks almost like a factory molded connector including wire kink protection.
Best use for a woodworker: hot glue can be used to hold hard-to-clamp and other odd glue joints together while the real glue sets. When setting your glue joint, intentionally leave voids and use a small dab of hot glue to secure the parts together while the real glue sets. Squeeze out is easily chiseled off.
Darbin Double 0 Seven takes her drinks SHAKEN not STIRRED... LOL... What a wonderful concept, I watched this video and kicked myself in the butt because I did, almost every project you just did, THE HARD WAY and WITHOUT HOT GLUE and it took me HOURS to do what you just did in Seconds... Well done Cleaver Girl, very well done....
Paul Bialozor Thanks for the nice comment Paul! I agree, that you can definitely take a lot of short cuts with the hot glue gun which is why it's one of my favorite tools in the shop.
A great video! Also agood question is when going to the hobby store to buy a hot glue gun you see 8 to 12 different kinds which would you pick out and why? There are so many kinds of them! Thanks again linn!
+Darbin Orvar Wht is the size of the glue stick u used with your gun. R u using the stanley mini? like this one www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00N9RBVG8?keywords=glue%20gun&qid=1457779881&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1#Ask
great examples of normal use of hot glue. throught I would see some new and inventive ideas on how to use the tool. differnt things you can melt and use. ABS plastic? use the tip as a soldering iron for soft materials things like that would be a hack. but great and well done for various common uses.
Will try hot gluing 2 pieces of wood to cut identical pieces! Just learned of another trick with brad nails but wont work for the smaller pieces, but this will! Thanks Linn!
Cy's Corner Thanks Cy! Yes, hot gluing two pieces of wood to cut identical pieces works really well.
Ones you discover the uses of hot glue you never want a shop without a gluegun :-) great video!
Great tips Lynn. I really liked the finishing pyramid one, that's a tip I have not seen before.
Brian Lasch Thanks Brian! I just came up with that one, and now I've been using them and I rather like them!
Carol, the pyramids are to raise the work piece off the work surface when finishing so you can better get at the lower agles and not have the piece stick to the table as the finish dries.

Waterproofing is a great tip, I used it in my last project :) thanks !
With a little finesse you can draw with hot glue on a surface, peel it off, and use it for decorative frames and other projects.
mrjoesays Yes, I actually tried that and found that glass is a great surface to put the glue on if you want to peel it off later.
Allways have a hot glue gun plugged in at the shop. So many uses. Great vid.
Matt Diresta I agree, thanks Matt!
We added 1/10 of hot glue to our wedding invitations sealing wax to make it less brittle and to survive posting. It also sticked to the envelope much better.
We melted the wax and hot glue in a tealight tin over a stove.
Jussi Virtala That's a really cool use that I never heard of before. Thanks!
Love my glue gun! So cheap yet so useful! Cool video, loved the air tight joints tip!
Nice. I especially like the idea of using hot melt glue to attach the LED strip lighting.
Steve French Thanks Steve! Yes, I've been using the hot glue gun when it comes to attaching LED lights in general to things lately and it's been working nicely,
Darbin. You know what I like about you? You're not stuck up. Thanks for the tips.
I really hate life-hack-video stuff with a passion, but somehow I enjoyed watching this one! Thanks Linn!
I recently got a new hot melt glue gun and have much better luck with it than the 80's vintage one we had. I use a dab to hold pegboard hooks in place.
A very instructive and entertaining video, Linn! I think I knew about 3 of these hacks, so thanks much for the other 9!
Great ideas, thanks for sharing!

Great tips. Bought a hot glue gun yesterday and was suprised how well it holds wood together.
Good ideas. I've seen a few of your videos, I like the flow. They have a lot of content with good editing.
your videos are really awesome you have earned yourself a subscriber keep up the great vids
I like it when you wear your professor Lynn coat. I know I'm going to learn something. Or laugh. Thank you for this video.
Symon Fobbester Thanks Symon! I rather like putting my lab coat on, it's so practical!

This is the first video I see in your channel and I love your voice
Jesus Hernandez Thanks for watching, I hope you subscribe!
Thanks for some very useful ideas, will need to remember to do this!
Thanks and keep em coming!
I make countertops and we use hot glue all the time for holding splashes or attaching build up good for holding power until silicone dries
I find that hot glue is great for creating accidental finger burns. In fact, there is almost nothing better!
Tom Nally Yes, I've had quite a few accidental burns myself :)
+Darbin Orvar I find as a kid I touch my cordless low temp and then accedentily burn
SUPER!
Need your advice.. Planning to buy a Dremel Glue Gun. Which Gun are you using here? Is it GOOD? Any Glue Stick works with it?
Hello Darbin, I have watched and enjoyed many of your videos not realizing I never subscribed. Please forgive me. I am now a subscriber. You have some very interesting and informative videos. Thank you so much for sharing.
Dave Pelcher Thanks for the nice comment and for subscribing Dave!
What a versatile tool! Does it works with plastic? You have a lots of skills with so many different tools. Thanks for this great video.
Marcelo Freitas Thanks Marcelo! Yes, you can definitely glue things to plastic with hot glue. In fact it sticks to almost any surface.
Learned a lot, thanks!

Hi and thanks for the tips. Can I use hot melt glue gun to fix the bathtub crack that leaks?!
Someplace in my disorganized house there's a hot glue gun. Time to find it! I'm inspired.
She blinded me, with science!❤

This is my second favorite hot glue gun video.
Rubbing Alcohol is the best remover. Just a couple drops at the seal and its magic!
Great video topic Lynn, I never think to use hot glue but I think I'll try some of your suggested uses now! Thanks :)
Zac Higgins Thanks Zac! Yes, it's easy to forget sometimes how useful these tricks can be :)

excelente video, gracias
Really great tips Linn, I go and dig out my hot glue gun:)!
Tamás Elkán Thanks Tamas, yes you never know when you're going to need it.
Another great video! Thank you!

I have an array of surface mount LEDs. Can I use hot glue to make a light diffuser, which will also water proof it by default??
And another great, but tacky, video from Lin. Thnx, some real good ideas here!
I'm looking for a way to smoothen hot glue how to smooth hot glue do you have any ideas.

whitewolf8758 I would get a good kind, one that gets quite hot! Some of the lower models don't work quite as well.
amazing!
I used hot glue to seal small cracks in my foundation and not only is it a quick and easy fix it stops water from getting in.
Great video. Maybe I can make those rubber feet/bumpers for under a cutting board with a few drops of hot glue. Thank you!!
olivepressdesign That's a good idea!
Who would have thought a lady saying "hot glue" could be so endearing :-)
i have a hot glue gun but American plug.. I want use Eu plug can working?
Well, it is designed for 120V when you power it with 220V it draws twice current and 4 times power. So it may work but better not use it.
What is the name of your glue gun. I want to buy one
+Manveerpal Singh Sekhon It is a cheap stanley.
