These are precious! You brought back a lot of memories! I remember coloring, that was one of my favorites & reading books. My Grandparents were big about that & were always buying me books. They really gave me a love for reading. I played outside as often as I could, was swimming every day the temp was over 70, that was my Mom's rule! I remember being in dresses a lot, especially in the summer. Always had to wear a dress to church. I think up until about 4th grade, I wore dresses to school. I remember going to Sears and getting new school dresses. I loved a view master, too. My grandkids are not impressed with that, lol. Our oldest daughter has started homeschooling. They have started a new rule at their home. Tv is only on on the weekends. Friday night if family movie night. Saturday & Sunday the girls can watch tv if their chores are done. Otherwise in their free time they are playing, doing art or playing games as a family. I think it is going to make a huge difference in the kids. I'm really proud of them for changing their lifestyle like this. I have two of the book you used but mine are just the student books. I get these every time I see them. I used to find them at my thrift store quite often. I haven't in a very long time. I think someone else caught on to them & gets them before me.

Congrats on your daughter home schooling and making a huge lifestyle change. I'm sure she'll see a huge change, good for her. Barbie these cards are so cute! And like others evoked fond memories of my childhood. My mom made all my clothes and she would make what she called sun suits. (One piece outfit with a bib front and back with tie spaghetti straps and the bottom had elastic around the leg opening) I wore those to play in til I was 4 or 5, then short sets We lived on 10 acres so playing in the woods was always on the list of things to do. I was a tomboy cause I was the only girl out of 5. Us three middle kids played together most of the time. Always wore dresses when you went out anywhere. We knew better than to ever tell my mom we were bored. She would find another chore for you to do. So we entertained ourselves a lot. We could watch a few cartoons on Saturday morning but we had to have chores done. TFSGF

What a childhood, it sounds wonderful and I'm so happy you have happy memories to draw on. 🩷 Nothing wrong with being a tomboy, nothing wrong with that at all. I bet you had a ball playing. I never told my mom I was bored 🤭 same here with the Saturday morning chores; then off to play when it was done. My girlfriend had to clean her parents entire house so me and a couple other girls would run to her house and help her lickity split so she could play sooner. Fun times. Hi Barb! Yes, the humidity is too much for me also. Working on a rooster page in the AC. In 1969 I was in first grade. I remember Dick and Jane books very well. As for playing inside on a really hot day of Summer break, I remember playing with my Raggedy Anne doll, Paper dolls and occasionally going in the backyard to have an ice cream cone on the swig set. On a rare occasion the neighbors would invite us over and we would be a sticky mess eating watermelon on the picnic table. God bless 🐓🐞🍉🍦
@juliaarmato3984 Julia ........ paper dolls, yes. I loved mine too. Do you remember the paper doll, Betsy McCall in the back of the McCall's Magazine? Boy, I do ........... My mom got that magazine in the mail and I couldn't wait to have my mom cut them out for me. Did you have an ice cream truck that would come to your neighborhood? Ours was Mr. Ding-a-Ling ......... oh, that ice cream tasted so good. Nothing like the soft serve they have today. Regarding the watermelon, I'm sure you had seed spitting fights too .......... 🤣🤣 I'm so happy you were able to sit with me today and take a nice walk down memory lane. Hi Barb, I just recently bought an old school reading text book from 1941, that makes it older than I am. I just love the graphics from back then. They (old school books) do make good ephemera for junk journals, collages etc. I have other old books but this is my first school/text book, and I don't know if I'm going to be able to cut it up. lol Ebay is a great source for finding them.

This was indeed a trip down memory lane, for sure. As children we would be outside all day, exploring the world around us either by ourselves (my cousin and I) or with a group of neighborhood kids...we had the best times! It is terribly sad what the world has come to, as it has robbed the little ones/young one of so much. Yes because cell phones have become babysitters, along with tablets and the TV. But, also we have to consider that the world isn't a safe place for children anymore.We have to be mindful and watchful of our young ones more now than ever. Children are going missing at an unbelievable rate, whereas when were young our folks didn't have to worry so much about some pedo or trafficker snatching us off the street or out of our yards. And neighbors just automatically watched out for the entire community. It's just so sad, the threats facing our young ones. But boy oh boy did we have fantastic childhoods! Indeed we did.
Oh lordy, don't get me started on the weather. It is like living in the devil's bumcrack down here in SW Georgia. The very second I step outside I start doing my wicked witch impression, "I'm melting, I'm melting (from the Wizard of Oz for those who aren't familiar with that line), It is so unbearably hot and humid down here that some days I don't go outside at all. SO yes, please stay indoors, drink plenty of fluids and pray for those who have no air conditioning and no way to get cooled off.

@linmims3049 Lin, the word of the day today is WATERMELON 🍉🍉🍉🍉 ...... and lots of it. So much, I just told my husband, I'll most likely be up all night peeing 🤣🤣🤣 When I get tired of drinking, I can put an entire watermelon away, which is good but too many potty trips. TFW and sitting with me ........ I LOVE your comment, it's all spot on, and I couldn't agree more. The one thing that is so true ........... our parents didn't have to worry about our whereabouts when we rode off, ran off, or skipped off to our friend's houses. It was a much safer place back then, and YES, each neighbor watched you like you belonged to them. 🤗😀 You take care in this heat as well, the humidity is what zaps me ....... I can't take it. I'm actually glad Nancy didn't come home just yet, she has NO air conditioning in her home. It's an old farmhouse, but she does have air in her bedroom. Hi, Barbie! Adorable rolodex cards! Isn't it sad that most kids don't play outside anymore? My kids played outside till it was dark and then they would play hide and seek around the yard till they were made to come in the house. Life is so different now and I'm not sure it's a good thing. lol It is supposed to be 100+ degrees here for the next three days. After that it will slack off a bit. Stay cool, gf!! xoxo
@joymeadows3646 Joy, did you secretly live in my neighborhood? We did the same, but played hide and seek in my neighbors yard. I couldn't get dressed fast enough to go out outside to play............good times. I still have to get outside, otherwise I go nuts. Life is different now and it's really sad. Our weather has broke a tiny bit but it's still very hot. I'm doing my best to stay cool........watermelon helps! 🤣🤣🤣
