    The Brommer and Speight books were exactly what I was looking for... After a good publishing run of some poems many years ago, I did a poem collage of one of them, and then did no more. I'm inspired to go back to those pieces, as I remember how much I love text in collage. Thanks for that spark of inspiration!

      So glad you found what you wanted! That book is very technical but really great for visual artists. I hope you enjoy it.

    I am obsessed with collage! I have been into it since I was 11 or 12. I had a older brother who moved into downtown St Paul in the late 1990's and he lived in this artist lofts and gis neighbor was an actual collage artist and his entire loft was all fiilled up with his collage art the entire place was a big cohesive piece of art. It was covered in all different styles colors and it was amazing. Im still inspired vy tye memories i have from going unto his house for like 5 minutes when i was 13.
    I have been cutting out of magazines my entire life. I used to have my entire bedroom was covered in a collage every inch was covered in cut outs from magazines and different types of stuff all into one big collage. It yook me 4 years to do it nmand redo it and when i ended up moving out of my dads house into my car wn place my old vff and i took the piece down bit by bit and painstakingly replaced it all onto posterboard and she reaplied it onto her bedroom walls exactly like it had veen done in my bedroom. She waas in love with it. I have not been doing that much since i moved out on my own 23 years ago. I have been cutting and saving for years. I have a few folders. I did not have any idea that there was so many different artists that do collage art. I would love to know the artist that lived downtown St Paul and gave me so much inspiration for my love of collafe art. He used to do his collage and then he would go to Kinko's and have it all done in a bound book but he also made amazing works of art on canvas and sepl it for hundreds of dollars. He was an amazing artist. I'm totally excited to check out the books that were mentioned along with the artists. Thank you so much for making this video and i am so excited to get back into making collage art. I absolutely love to do it and i was really good at it when i was working with tape and glue. Not knowing what decoupage glue was. So inspired and excited to get started!❤

    I really enjoyed this video. College looks simple and it is simple but in the hands of creative people it becomes something very sophisticated. I was not familiar with these titles and I welcome the bibliography you provided.

    Very nice video, thank you. Question: what's the best glue you can recommend for glue books that will keep things intact for decades? What holds glossy paper, like magazine photos or photographs? Thank you 😊

    • @poetologie
      @poetologie  4 месяца назад +1

      As I show in this video, I normally use MOD PODGE glue for collage: ruclips.net/video/-1qndPUWsmY/видео.html&pp=gAQBiAQB However, since it tends to wrinkle thin paper (such as magazine pages) I would also recommend Tombow MONO liquid glue for this type of work. Both should last well enough although I don't know about decades just yet!

    I've been looking to experiment more with collage and in a kind of illustration way - your recommendations have helped a lot. Thank you! Also have you thought of doing those links where you earn a commission if we click through to buy from here? I think you might have got some from a few of us in this post :) Off to check out the next video of artists you mentioned.

    Can you recommend any book or video etc. on how to actually 'read' collage? I can feel what I like and see it visually but its meaning escapes me but that's my feeling about art full stop.

    • @poetologie
      @poetologie  2 года назад +1

      I think 'Collage by Women' would be good because the artists share some their thoughts about their process and what they're trying to create. You could also check out Kolaj Magazine to learn more about approaches to collage: kolajmagazine.com/content/
      To be fair, there is no single meaning that you need to unpack in any given work of art. Of course knowing something about the artist or the cultural/political context can help you understand their work but your personal response to it matters just as much. It's not the way it was at school, where you needed to find the right answers to score points ;-) So it's about your own interest and enjoyment, using curiosity to explore collage and learn as you go. I hope this helps!
