I just pulled out a bunch of old sketchbooks.... this is so inspiring! Now I am pulling out my boxes of "potential collage" papers that have been collecting "potential" for decades now, lol. But, its just given me a whole new supply of art supplies!
I should never be ashamed of being a "hoarder" 🙈😅 I still have many things full of "potential". Even though I didn't started to use them yet, I believe they are my potentials.
How lovely and brilliant to encourage a sense of novelty, ease and playfulness through a medium like this. Play is good for the soul and often the gateway into our more serious efforts while being of equal value. It’s like how tiger cubs play to practice fighting. Play is our model for work. If you’re a sculptor, you can go out and buy some play-dough, that’s okay. If you’re an oil painter you can go get some finger paints or crayons if you’re an illustrator. We do need to remind ourselves of that novelty and not take everything so seriously, sometimes. Another small note for those who want to do this is that you don’t have to create your own textures or papers, just go to any craft store and see what they have that you could use, or maybe bust out some old Christmas wrapping or washi tape or origami paper. Lots of options. If you only have white paper you can color or texture it any way you like and you can incorporate any kind of textures or materials you like. You don’t even need to use paper. Collage is definitely underrated.
They are all lovely! I never thought they were made of cut paper because all elements blended so beautifully. ❤ I love the idea of letting scissors "draw".
You do know that artists have been creating/"painting" with paper for over a century. Two of the most influential early 20th century US artist painting with "cut papers" were Romare Bearden (and Lois Mailou Jones). This is not new...
@TiWanTiWa Abibiman You didn't hear her mention being inspired by Matisse - who also did cut/torn paper collage? Possibly listen in again where she mentions him toward the beginning of the vid.
👏 I love how you "recycle" your sketchbook as inspiration and create something completely new that’s also familiar at the same time. And using torn paper seems such a wonderful, playful way to make art and the outcome is beautiful. 🖼️
I knew a photographer in the 70’s who used to do this and I was enthralled by it ever since. Your work is just beautiful and compelling (like Matisse, who’s work I also admire and enjoy) and I have saved so much paper…Im going to start something now, thank you!
Your work is so beautiful! I’m a big fan of Matisse too. I love that he found a way to work even when he was ill and that he simplified his art even further. Years ago I tried drawing with paper. This makes me want to try it again.
I love the drawings used as the base for the artworks. I love collages and I have been making them since I was very little, some times with mixed materials but mainly with paper. Paper is truly a magic material, its weight, its glossiness, its rough edges, its clean cut edges. Each piece creates endless possibilities. And yes I wish I photographed my collages before I glued them down, sometimes you miss out on some details you wanted to add, if you don't have a photo reference. Congratulations for your wonderful artwork! Inspirational and relaxing to watch! 👍😍🥰👌
That’s stunning ❤️❤️ When I’m gluing a collage I just lift an edge or corner of each piece up, then glue that down. So the pieces are kinda half glued so they won’t fall out of place. Then I’ll lift them up and add more glue starting at the underneath pieces to stick them down properly. It’s hard to describe but saves time lifting them all off and trying to put them back in the right positions x
Beautifully balanced work with great awareness of all the elements such as form, colour, variety, negative and positive spaces. You have a good artistic intellect.
Wonderful video. It's been a while since I 'played', and collage (my Sweetie calls the 'collisions', which I love) is my go-to for escaping. One thing I love about tearing paper is that the edge will vary depending on which way you tear. Pulling it toward you creates that exciting white jagged 'border'.
Wow! I absolutely love your collages Jenny! So glad I found your post as I am returning to my artwork after a three (maybe 4) year long creative block. I have always wanted to try collage and I love your idea of recycling paper and old artwork. Thank you so much for sharing your technique ❤ I have now subscribed to your channel!
Some Eric Carle type work! So awesome! I loved this type of graphic as a child. Now that I’ve got children you’ve inspired me to give it a go! They come up with such neat concepts.
It looks like such a pleasant, enjoyable process to enjoy. The colour palette is nicely coordinated. The collage seemed to lend itself to the still life - the first plant is my favourite.
Hi Jenny! Having discovered you very recently here I have to tell you how much I enjoy your work!! Thank you for sharing your methods and your inspiration so generously. The collage representations of Cornwall and Italy are just lovely. Do you ever do workshops online? I would really enjoy wandering through your processes from pallet selection to final touches!! I am a very late ‘bloomer’ so have a great deal to catch up on!! Thank you again! Merry ((Tavira, SE Portugal)
Beautiful! Thank you Jenny for sharing your glorious practice. So inspiring. My first viewing of your work and won't be my last. Drawing with scissors! yes!
Jenny, thank you for sharing your technique and the inspiration and beauty plus experimentation of your works. Quite coincidentally, Id' just embarked on a similar tree experiment you describe I your previous videos. I'm from Vermont USA, now living in New Hampshire, also full of trees in different seasonal poses. I came across your tree series and it's given me the courage and permission to continue with trees; putting aside some little voice telling me I should diversify more.
Your work is stunning. I consume massive amounts of art videos on youtube and have done so for years and years. How has the algorithm not shown me your work before now?!!!! You've got a new subscriber for sure.
Beautiful and so inspiring work. Lovely and warm to see and connect with. I love the fact to go around of the drawing idea, how the sketch and the draw can convert into a great idea and space to create something else.
Jenny, открыла для себя Ваш канал. Мне очень понравились работы! Подписалась. Буду ждать с нетерпением новых плодов Вашего вдохновения! Здоровья, удачи! 😊
Hi, good morning from Virginia, US. I saw your thumbnail & knew I had to learn. I have been taking pictures of places for years and have not always been aware I was an artist (long story). Now I live near many peanut factories, I have drawn them but it’s not as clear as the photos. I have been struggling with what to do with them because there are so many photos now, this helps me greatly!! I now have a new path to travel and You to thank for it!! Thank You so much ❤❤❤❤
Seu trabalho é lindo! Gostaria de ver "ao vivo" um de seus quadros, pq a tela n mostra a textura que a colagem proporciona, e q é diferente da pintura.

Have so much fun!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
UH OH...I've just watched this at 1 a.m. Yet another medium that has captured my attention and creative yearning....How will I go to sleep???
Incredible work. I would love to see your process for making your own papers.
I'd like to see that as well.
me too
Me too. Love your thought process and your work.
And would love the gluing process.
Yes!
I had the pleasure to see Matisse art with my own eyes in New York. Your work is inspiring.

This is brilliant - a collision between the simple and the complex. You are a treasure!

Oh, I love your scissor painting. Just beauriful!

I enjoyed this very much. I have been doing this for 50 years myself. It is a great material to work with, so much free paper around.
Wonderful work! I love the variation of colours and textures, a joy to look at!
Your work is so beautiful and fun.🤩 My eyes can’t stop exploring every texture, shape or colour. 🙏
