I just bought it to use today. it really works It is capable of displaying both 720p and 1080p. I bought it to convert video recorded on Mini DV tapes to video files through OBS on my computer.
It doesn't work in reverse. You need a different converter from HDMI to RCA, if you want to connect newer devices with HDMI video outputs to extremely old TVs that don't have HDMI outputs but have RCA audio and video output

very useful I have a universal cd player that has composite out but newer TVS don't support CVIS composite anymore so to see the menu of my player I use this device it s just a little messy with the cable situation . We tried to help parents (and husband and I are old so that’s telling you) we purchased an older replacement VCR/DVD player for them we unhooked everything and plugged in the new one and display say “device not found”. From your video I see that we did not have it plugged into usb for power! Could that be why. Grandpa tried to assist and unhooked it before we got there. What do you think? (I want to also add the cord freeways behind the tv etc was insane. But I didn’t want to go there.)

I had the same problem, but once I changed the hdmi cord to a different one, I unplugged all the av cables from the box, turned my Wii on and off before plugging in the av cables one by one from the audio to the video it worked. Sorry this was a lot hope this helps.

New technology if you want to watch a vhs movie again buy this adapter your vcr still works but you need this adapter to make it work or else vcr will only play 2 secs if you don’t have this adapter hooked up. If you don’t have any chords hooked up properly your vcr is not going to work. If your vcr stopped working it’s because everyone uses flat tv now and if you want to watch vhs tapes again on the flat tv you need that adapter. They’re not that expensive either only $15 or $20.

Into an open HDMI port on the back of the TV. Depending on your TV there may be a few of them. Then select the number HDMI port from your inputs on the TV.

i would recommend a wii2hdmi dongle with component or a hdmi mod for the wii if you want decent image quality but this does "work"

What if the device with the av output can only display 480p. If the setting is put on 1080p or 720p, will it just display it up to 480p?

Look it up online, the colors are different, but they're still the same ports. Later ports changed the colors.
