Jay Smith är en americana- och countryinspirerad artist som debuterar i Melodifestivalen med "Back to My Roots". Han har skrivit bidraget tillsammans med bland andra sin halvsyster Maria Jane Smith och Victor Thell, det vill säga den framgångsrika duon Smith & Thell.
Efter att ha vunnit Idol 2010 släppte han debutalbumet Jay Smith, som inkluderade hans hyllade tolkning av “Like A Prayer”. Därefter har han fortsatt att släppa musik, bland annat singeln "God Damn You", som i dag har över fem miljoner strömningar.
2019 kom hans senaste album, Young Guns, som färgats av hans passion för amerikansk country.
Under åren fram till 2024 har Jays musikstil utvecklats till en mix av core-country med inslag av pop, där berättandet står i centrum.

WHAT A VOICE! WHAT A SONG! His voice reminds me a bit of Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) and you can hear really well on this song that Smith & Thell wrote it. Easily one of my favs of this moment!

"Screw the haters" He literally said on a Interview that he qualified because hes song was "good" and it had nothing to do with receny bias. And the people booed at the qualifiers. But you have to agree this was pure Recency bias or you are de!usional

He is way too good for this competition. I met him many years ago. We hanged together and he alteady back in 1996 was a awesome guitarist and vocal singer. Also noticable a very good guy, down to earth and genuine. Wish him all the best of luck in life. Cool to also see the drummer Hoff playing there. Also a friend back in the days, and a super cool dude.

Jay has a huge fanbase and has traveled Sweden multiple times on his tours. I'm not surprised at all. The amount of elder rockers that watched tonight because of Jay is the reason he went through!

Im 25, back when him and Erik Grönwall won Idol i accualy liked the show. Same has been with Melodifestivalen. We used to have a mix of music like Dead by April, Hasse Andersson, Magnus Uggla, Star Pilots, Nordman etc. In the more recent years its been basic pop in the finals because punkrock and other genres are being pulled from the getgo or in the semi. Now we have Smash and Jay in the final as the 2 non-pop contributions. We might be heading back to the more diverse era of a once great show!
That might of course be a part of it, but I believe there are also a lot of people like me that have listened nothing or very little to Jay before (I might have heard some performances from when he won Idol and I knew that he is a good singer/musician, but that's pretty much it) but just loved the song! I think the country and the same kind of pop sound that is also found in Smith & Thell-songs (even though their own songs might be more folk-pop), combined with a bit of his rock sound, was a winning concept that made a lot of people like this.

I missed the show today. Didn't even hear his song until now. This is a great song! But I think that it is not what Swedes see as a Eurovision song. It is a too serious pop rock song. Jay would definitely leave an good impression with this song if he was to perform in the ESC. Just bad that Swedes don't see this as Eurovision. I have not doubt that this song will be played a lot on the radio this summer.

Fast folk har kunnat lyssna på de andra nummerna i veckor. Tycker det är en mer fördel än vara sist. Jay har en bra låt och folk kan se det direkt. Detta är ingen typsik mellolåt vilket många kommer uppskatta.

Fröken Snusks låt fick ju ett försprång iom att den läcktes på bla TikTok - mot reglerna i tävlingen. Så det är väl rättvist. Recency bias påverkar väl som mest bara de som inte är för en särskild låt.

Praying and hoping Sweden sends jay to Eurovision it’s so unique and something different from all the other songs that have been at Eurovision I honestly think Sweden can win it again let’s do it for 2 in a row and it’s also so catchy and will be very memorable
Ha ha, yeah it really is unique, I am so happy it took the last spot at the final! I hope it places good, Sweden is not that much into country i think. But this song hopefully changes it. :)

And some motherfucks says that his song are all written by Maria...(Actually their songs are totally different, I don't know what kind of fxxk can spread this kind of foolish slander...)
But the song's epic,and this song smash all of the bias(methinks)
SVT made a format change this year. Earlier with the second chance for the artists that got 3rd or 4th place in their heat, it had it's own show a week after the last heat with everyone performing their song again. This year they put the second chance straight after heat 5 and not with the artists performing again, instead only showing a fast recap. Out of 10 songs, both songs from heat 5 (which had just performed their song an hour before) got through to the final. These 2 songs got to perform and got 3 recaps during the night while the rest of the songs only got one recap which is why people are saying it's an unfair advantage for them and the result is affected by recency bias. Not only that, but Jay and Fröken Snusk ended up on the same points (they converted the votes to points from their heat+from the second chance) and the reason why Jay got through is because he got more votes during the second chance fast recap, while Fröken Snusk got more votes in her actual heat which again people are saying because of recency bias.
Most critique is towards SVT because of the format change (and I totally agree with that because recency bias is a real thing) and not so much against Jay. The ones hating in Jay is probaly mostly salty fans from other artists. I personally wanted Scarlet and Adam Woods in the final but here we are..

@@torres1997dt I do agree that it was bad to have just one recap of the second chance. And bad with such short time to vote, I did not make to give my last two hearts to Jay before it was closed. But both Annika and Jay had many votes from their heat, only Fröken had more, but I’m very happy with the results! :)

He is certainly too good for this competition. (Just the fact that I liked this as much as I did is enough proof of that for me.)
I had no idea who Jay was before tonight and in the little I got to see of him before he performed + the performance, I was sold. He seems like such a genuine, likeable person and the whole thing was so heartfelt. I like rock but not really country, yet this completely captured me.
Tonight was the first time I voted for anything this year 'cause generally, I think ESC and Mello is a pile of horseshit. But when I saw Jay, I felt like I needed to contribute. To try and make seen and heard something genuine and real, for once.
So happy a lot of other people seemed to see what I saw tonight. We'll do our best in the finale, too 🔥

Yes I agree, I adore Jay's song and I'm super happy he is in the Melfest final, but I don't see him for Eurovision unfortunately. Marcus&Martinus are likely ESC jury winners, while Medina have potential to be televote winners, and all this while still having Maria Sur, Danny Saucedo and Jacqline in the lineup...

Jag trodde att Fröken Snusk, skulle vinna över denna bara på grund av den stora (EPA) kulturen vi har i Sverige och för hennes stora hypa online mm, men är så jäkla glad att den som uppenbarligen hade talang tog Final platsen trots allt! jag absolut älskade gruppen Tennessee Tears förra året, så glad att vi fick med Country i År!
