BTW...the cover is a casket.. the Death Magnetic album was inspired by the LATE GREAT LAYNE STALEY of Alice in Chains. If you want a reaction to a song, listen to nutshell..preferably any live version from 1993 or the mtv unplugged special..guarentee you'll be in tears..
I'm with Kel on this one, I don't see what rich was getting at on the cover. It's a dirt coffin surrounded by lines of magnetism. Not much left for interpretation lol
Thanks Joshua...research a bit. It lit up the fan base in 2008 when the album dropped. Not many people know that it was one of the first interpretations across the wire. It's just a funny perspective if you think about it. Or not LOL.
The actual cover has depth so it seems more like a vagina if you actually have the case

Despite it's odd production issues, Death Magnetic is still a good album. One of my favorites from them.

The only "complaint" I have about this song, not a fan of the choice to do the vocal track so dry. But I do like how forward he is in the mix.

This album was another victim of "The Loudness War." (Look that up ;).) Which is probably why a lot of people dismiss it, particularly hardcore Metallica fans. But, if you were lucky enough to get the Guitar Hero version of it, that one did not have brickwalled sound, there was more dynamic range. You have to see the wave form for both versions to really see the difference.
I downloaded the guitar hero version. Never listen to the original CD.

Man I dig Kel’s opinion her.
Yeah, Death Magnetic is often overlooked but all the tracks are chock full of riffs and sections that showed not only was Metallica returning to their roots but they were evolving into something more. That album and Hardwired, as far as I'm concerned, pick up right where Justice left off.
I agree on the abundance of great riffs but, imo, a lot of em are wasted and turned into mediocre songs such as cyanide

First off; I am very envious of your piano. I play a Yamaha Arius YDP - 142 and while it’s fine to play I’m mentally very ready to upgrade....just not financially very ready. So yeah, envy.
Secondly; out of all the metal bands out there Metallica’s music transcribes to piano the most seamlessly compared to any other band by several million miles. Check out Vkgoeswild. She has nearly 700 thousand subscribers for a reason and has transcribed just about every Metallica piece there is I think. That said, one metal piece that she hasn’t done which isn’t Metallica which I think would work really well is Machine Head’s A Nation On Fire. You just have to listen to it and you’ll see what I mean.
Ask Vkgoeswild what program/app she uses as she has always responded kindly when I have asked her questions through Messenger.
One more thing; I posted a ton of Chilly Gonzales reactions requests a while back. It’d be very entertaining for everyone to react to the show I requested I think....there’s just something about Chilly....plus, he shreds. That’s all for now....

Almost forgot how good this song is. Love the riffs but sometimes incredible riffs is thrown away in a few bars when they could have been basis for a whole amazing song. It's like they didn't see greatness when it hit them and couldn't sort among all the riffs.

Don't get me wrong, I love Metallica, but the newer stuff (except All Nightmare Long which is KILLER) just seems off to me. It's missing something that I can't put my finger on...or maybe I've just lost my mind.

Yep, it's a pretty good album. Just doesn't have the WOW factor like Metallica of the past to me. My tastes may be changing, I am getting old...LOL.
