I had not seen this before, and always thought the Quake we got was just a simple recycling of the initial project but NO! It seems like they did put in a lot of work. I have never played the old deathmatch beta as they don't ship it anymore but now I'm gonna go try and find it. EDIT: I dug a little, and qtest1 looks and sounds very similar to this, except without single-player maps
Interesting to notice the sound department was ahead of the game, nearly having the finished sounds, while the pick up weapon is still a random icon placeholder :)
Surprised just how much changed within a matter of only a month and a bit Unless this is a build closer to QTest (which was released in Feb) but recorded in May?
I think they're stock sounds, like when you hear the same sound effects in movies. There are old libraries of sound effects for license, its common to use these in prototypes and they often end up in products.

Well, drugs are very expensive. But money get paid only after musical/sound work was done. ))
The sounds are nowhere near finished, the final game sounds significantly different.
@@Wobbothe3rd I would argue the sound direction sounds set.

From the graphics, it looks like a build close to QTest
It literally says May 9, 1996 as when this was recorded, just around the same time as Qtest.
Dead dog noises were taken from Resident Evil
