This machine will come in handy at De Chateau La Lande too. Wow! My husband always cut the wood too long and it wouldn't fit in the stove. My question, who's going to stack it all? 'Cause I can tell you, it's a bitch to go out there in winter and try to pull that wood out, all wet and not wanting to burn. Been there, done that.
Excellent idea ...always remembering its origin. I think sailors' wives would go up to a "crow's nest" on top of their houses in Boston to look out over the bay ^ and see if their husbands' ships had come in ...before electricity & phones, etc.
I like Nick’s new toy! Very handy for zero waste. I have to say, Nick has quite a nice collection of toys. Always a joy to see them at work at the chateau.
Back in the very olden days....they would build the Chateau (castle) next to the ruins of an older castle.....or.....build a quasi ruin next to the new castle......Dan comes along and one ups the ancients.......rebuilds the ruin! Dan the Man....with his HOMEPLAN!
Making progress now Dan got his tent down, Nick and Cameron are chopping the old trees into firewood for the winter, and Dan got the old steel beams down with the new lift! Looking good!
Nick has all the fun BOY TOYS , you will need to start heating the Yurt otherwise your mattress will start getting damp and the new leather sofa will start to mold 😞. Things are moving so fast at the moment and fixing the top walls will be epic as it won't be long before the first roof goes up and it's not even September yet !!! WELL DONE DAN !!!
It will still be a slog to finish the roof before Winter sets in, it's a pity that all the window lintels need replacing, it will take about three or four weeks to get the structure up to roof level, but sorting out the roof sections was always going to be the time consuming part and at least he's getting there, hopefully he will not have to many "interruptions", I wonder if he's going for a temporary or permanent roof, most probably temporary for now!?!
@@thomasherrin6798 do you know the roof of a castle? do you know how difficult and different from a normal roof it is? A roof of a castle needs a specialist, do you have never seen one? Roof and attic?
@@mlaiuppa It could be done though, as the rafters used to run parallel to that main wall with the fireplaces, so extending the roof framing over the central hallway later wouldn't require any splicing. Just let the sarking and membrane overhang the last rafter and cut back once the next rafters go in. I think the section could even be slated without too much hassle. It's not uncommon to do large roofs in sections, like Château de Purnon. Only the chimneys would have to be fixed to above roof level before that could happen because the mansard roof runs into them. Of course just doing a shed roof bolting a wall plate to that fireplace wall and running rafters to the outside wall would be faster and easier but it's work that will have to be done over in the foreseeable future.
I have a flock of them. They know me. I feed them corn in the winter. They bring their young birds for me to see this time of year. They are a sign of good fortune!

Not much to a yurt. He has a mattress of some sort and a couch for now. Building is just a nice round tent. Maybe once he gets more in it he will. Then again, he may want to keep it his personal space for now.
Hello from New Zealand. I've been watching your channel since the very early days. Can't tell you how proud I am of all your efforts and the wonderful help you have found in Nick and other friends. The work is an inspiration. Thank you so much. Stay well and we hold the vision with you.
Move out crows, the phoenix is moving up! That beam removal was so simple compared to previous ones! Bravo 👏👏 The new stage of building is going to be exciting! How time saving was the log cutter and splitter!
Nick is so important in that project... his knowledge, equipment and overall "can do attitude" is worth a lot. You're lucky Dan to have someone like Nick to help you
Dan put a plastic skin over that second story floor once you got it all in. It will give you cover beneath on the first floor for a huge amount of undercover workspace and any water that lands on top will be redirected down the sides to the basement below. That will give you lots of extra time to get sorted inside while you repair all the walls, windows and doors and slowly build the third floor. (I didnt realise till you pointed it out just how much work you need to do to stabilise the tops of the walls and second story windows) As it stands right now all that water is just coming down in a shower between the boards and you don't have any undercover area to store long lengths of boards or even the bags of cement and lime.
Never imagined I would be a fan of a RUclips channel. First and only channel I subscribed to and probably ever will. Love the positive vibe, the work ethic, just about everything. I assume you are proud of yourself Dan, and if not: all these comments on YT will prove you that you should! Greetings from Holland. I wonder, will there ever be a Q&A?
Giant “crows” are frequently ravens! They are massive and can hunt cooperatively. We have a family of them living behind us and they kick up a ruckus calling to each other when my little dog goes into the back yard. Keep an eye on your little pal. ❤
They don't hunt dogs or cats. They will eat dead stuff. They are simply vocalizing to the dog and to one another. They are more intelligent than some folks!
What about that Eagle type nest . The neighbors say it is a Giant Crow . No I'd like to see that . I remember the Bee's and now it;s the Birds . Well we are learning all about the " Birds and the Bee's " !
A log splitter. We rent one every year after buying log rounds from the forestry to use in our wood burners during the winter. So much easier. 😂 you definitely have enough fire wood.

Hello Dan! I am so fascinated by all the processes of rebuilding a chateau and so are more than a quarter of a million others. I have to say there is something about your story that is very unique. Maybe one day they will write a book about your journey. Take care!
BBC Channel 4(?) was doing filiming late spring/early summer 2023. Dan said they were doing a documentary on the chateau rebuild/restoration...also said it would be shown in a couple of months, which would be about now. Anyone heard/seen any British documentary about Dan & chateau?
I was glad to hear the conversation about making sure your firewood is thoroughly dry before you burn it. That minimizes creosote buildup and maximizes the BTUs that the combustion will produce.
I just binged watched for four days to get caught up with the progress. I love watching the work being done by Dan and all the other guys. I love Nick he is very knowledgeable in things, he makes a great asset to the build. Looking for the next one. Peace and love to all.
Now that you’re at the very top level, we can actually imagine the installation of the future roof structure which will prevent rain damage to all your hard work so far. Very exciting 👍🏻🤞🏻👏🏻
You should make a fire pit out of the old I beams. Great job as always, Dan! You’ve come so far!! Thank you Nick x Camron, Dan is blessed to have you both!
Nick and his machinery are a gem for this chateau. He totaly deserves to have his name up somewhere in the woods. This new toy is impressive how it cuts the wood. Never saw it before. Dan you are making progress like hell. ❤❤❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏

Yes, the most important and difficult part of the project is coming up…prepping the top for last beams to get a roof on…..BE VERY SAFE at this point!
Dan said he is going to have to build up alot of that top . I would say at least 2,500 Bricks .
Especially if he took the vaccine, lots of people dying suddenly from heart conditions
