Sir, greetings from Pakistan. This is probably one of the most popular songs here, if not the most popular sung by almost all singers of Pakistan and India. There are thousands of versions of this song available, if not more but the Coke studio version is the most unique. The reason is that all versions are upbeat and rhythmic with every listener wanting to get up and dance in ecstacy but Coke studio version is down-tempo but it's brilliant. A Coke Studio classic indeed. Loved every single minute of it

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar the peson reffered here was a Sufi saint and poet of present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan in 12/13th Century, he is one of the most prominent sufi saints born in Afghanistan to Iraqi parents but settled in current day Pakistan where his tomb is aswell. You can look up Sufi Poetry. Not all have same thoughts about it in Muslim world infact its a minority in Muslim world but still v strong.

I didn’t know he was born in Maiwand, Afghanistan to Iraqi parents who were from Baghdad. Thanks for that tidbit in history of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The versions I had heard, including from greats like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or Abida Parveen or the original singer Runa Laila, didn't really have the poem/spoken word as far as I could remember. However it did add such a nice touch to the song. Seems season 10 is making me take a trip down memory lane. These were songs we grew up hearing. In fact I remember my school playing this on special celebrations and it always seemed to put everyone in a good mood.

    1. This poetry is ode to a Saint "Shehbaz Qalander".
    2. 90% of renditions of the song, and there are alot of it, are fast paced, which would bring any South Asian on their feet.

Sir, greetings from Pakistan. This poetry was originally written in the 13th century by a great poet Ameer Khusro, which was improved in the 18th century by another great poet Bullay Shah.

Sir, greetings from Pakistan. The shrine of Shahbaz Qalandar is situated at a distance of about 300 kilometers from Karachi, which is the biggest and most populous city of Pakistan. Regards

Dama dam. Mast qalandar. Ali da pehla number..... This is an ode to the holy and mighty imam Ali. Who should have been the first caliph. But the evil forces took that away for their own purposes. I hate it when they change original lyrics.

Sir, greetings from Pakistan. The lyrics of this song are written about Shahbaz Qalandar, a Saint amongst saints. There is a lot of symbolism in the lyrics but primarily it is about Shahbaz Qalandar and his love for God the Almighty.
