    I think it’s finally my time to post my Kevin “The” Mann praise comment. You were what pushed me to start finasteride and minoxidil last month. No side effects as far as I can tell. You are seriously doing everyone a service with these videos Kevin and I can tell how hard you work on them. I would not have started had it not been for your videos as I originally had a terrible preconception (and misconception) of finasteride from online fear mongers. NW1, no loss.

  • @huss03
    @huss03 3 месяца назад +1

    I recall watching a documentary on TV many years ago...before the internet blew up and therefore well before I became addicted to RUclips. The subject matter was following the progress of women who were about to commence a transitioning program/protocol towards sex-change surgery. This would require them to first go through months of psychological counselling, followed by months of hormone treatment, and then finally the surgery. Although I watched it a very long time ago, a couple of things made a big impression on me and stuck with me. The first thing was that prior to starting testosterone treatment, they did a simple physical test on the women which resembled a sort of shooting type of video game. This test was performed again at 3 months and then at 6 months. What it showed is that during the course of the testosterone treatment, the speed of their reflexes and their ability to "rapid-fire" improved markedly.The second thing I remember relates to the latter stages of the hormone treatment where not only was testosterone administered, but DHT was added into the "stack". One of the test subjects was interviewed and she made a point to remark upon the powerful subjective effects of DHT as it was raised to typical male levels in her body. She was saying things like "Whoa, DHT is some powerful stuff!...I had no idea I could feel like this". She went on to reference increases in Libido, increases in aggression, and increases in feelings of confidence and dominance. For some reason this stuck in my mind at the time even though I was a young guy, not losing my hair, and not having any clue about what DHT was and its link to hair loss. So, nowadays as I have joined the ranks of men who are battling hair loss, I have become more aware of DHT, and of course also become aware of Kevin's "DHT is a trash hormone" campaign. However, it seems to me that it is quite possible that DHT does play a role in "feeling masculine" and in manifesting male behavioural traits and attitudes. Perhaps there are 2 sides to this coin and some might argue that we''d be better off with less DHT in the world because there would be less conflict, war, tyranny, and sexual crime (not to mention more hair). But I can't help feeling that all these anecdotal stories of men feeling like they've "lost their edge" or of depressive-like effects is a totally reasonable and expected side-effect of nuking DHT. Is this hypothesis so ridiculous Kevin, and shouldn't you consider taking a more balanced view of the role that DHT plays in simply "feeling like a man"? Perhaps it doesn't work like this for you personally Kevin, but you don't know how it feels to exist in the mind and body of others, and on that basis perhaps a more cautious outlook would be wise.

No complaints here, i actually stopped using topical minoxodil cos its made my hair to dry and stiff and belive dusta should be sufficient. Anyways thanks for putting out the correct info so less people will be fearmongered , pfs 😂...

    Hey Kevin, finding your channel was the best thing to ever happen to my hair. I appreciate everything you’ve done for the community. I started taking finasteride 1 mg a day with complete confidence that I wouldn’t get sides. After a few weeks, I had a significant decrease in libido and it was incredibly difficult to get an erection. This frustrated me a lot obviously. I’m 21 years old and in excellent shape. I’ve never had a problem with my sexual function ever; not even in the slightest. I wanted it to just be the Nocebo effect so bad, but it was hard to say it was considering how much confidence I have in the research I’ve done concerning finasteride. I stopped taking it for a week, and everything was pretty much back to normal. After a week without finasteride, I’ve been taking 0.5 mg every two days. It’s been about 2 weeks and everything is normal so far. I’m starting to feel confident that this dosage won’t give me side effects, but I am a bit worried that it won’t be enough DHT suppression. I have the strongest genetic bias towards androgenic alopecia out of anyone I’ve ever met. I know that 0.2 mg a day is the lowest dose with clinical efficacy, and I’m technically taking 0.25 mg a day, so I guess we’ll see. I might experiment with 0.5 daily if a few more weeks pass and I still have no sides.
    I have a few questions:
    Of course, my sexual sides were most likely due to an increase of estradiol. I’ve always had kinda high estrogen and maybe fin just put it over the tipping point. Is there any safe ways to suppress excess estradiol conversion without losing too much or causing other adverse side effects?
    Also, in theory, for someone with an extreme genetic bias for androgenic alopecia that happens to be in the 1-2% that experience sides, what other options are there? I hate to be pessimistic, but my uncle took fin for over a decade and as far as I’m concerned he still lost ground (considering he’s completely bald). I also use topical minoxidil and I’ve had an SMP done for the illusion of more density (great results btw, I happen to live 20 minutes away from one of the best SMP artists in the US). Obviously, neither Minoxidil or an SMP will do much for the long term. I’m thinking that if all else fails, I can get a transplant and maintain ground with 0.2 mg fin or topical fin. What do you think? I’m not immediately assuming the worst, as that’s a nocebo effect on it’s own, but I am genuinely curious what options someone in that situation would have. For now, I’ll see what results I will get from 0.5 every 2 days and minoxidil. If nothing else, it’ll buy me some time to weigh out my options.
    If you find the time to read and respond to this, I genuinely appreciate that a lot man. You’re an absolute juggernaut of truth and are single-handedly shifting the fear paradigm surrounding these treatments. Thank you for what you do man!

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks Witcher, glad to have you here.
      Actually, 0.1 MG daily is the smallest dose of finasteride that still works. I talk about it here. ruclips.net/video/15PHO1m6D-c/видео.html
      As I discuss in that video, finasteride isn't that dose dependent, 0.5 MG is only about an 8 percent difference for instance. DHT suppression has to meet a certain threshold to be effective and 0.2 MG still meets that threshold so I think you'll be fine at 0.5, especially since you're also using minoxidil.
      A much better indicator of how effective your regimen will be is how early you started. Did you start at a Norwood 3 or 4? In that case you may want to consider a more aggressive routine like dutasteride or adding a topical androgen antagonist like pyrilutamide. But if you got into the game at around a Norwood 2 then it is likely it will be more effective. Basically, the longer you wait, the harder it is going to be to maintain. I talk about all of that here.
      ruclips.net/video/LsF9MwIM_AM/видео.html
      I think your routine is a good one. You did the right thing adjusting your dose as opposed to quitting when you didn't respond well to the standard dose. I wouldn't worry, and yes if you need a small FUE transplant in the future that is an option too, especially with treatments like verteporfin on the horizon.
      If you absolutely cannot use 5AR inhibitors at any dosage, then topical anti androgens along with minoxidil are your best bet. At the very worst they'll buy you time until something better comes out like GT20029.

      @@haircafekevin Thank you for the reply! I’ll check that video out now. As far as where I’m at on the Norwood scale, my hairline is relatively the same besides some regression on my temples. For the most part, I’m experiencing an even distribution of diffuse thinning specifically on the top of my head. Back and sides are thick as ever, but the top has lost just enough ground that it’s at times noticeable to other people. I’ve had my scalp tested for DHT and my dermatologist confirmed it was androgenic alopecia, despite not being the typical horseshoe pattern. It’s great news to hear that my routine is fine and isn’t worth worrying about. This is a longterm commitment, and I find it to be a fun experiment seeing what dose will work best for me. I genuinely have no loose ends, questions, or topics with mystery concerning finasteride or treatment for hair loss in general now. Thanks for restoring my confidence!

    My question is, what was the cause, the Dut or RU? I’d still like to upgrade from Fin to Dut if RU was the culprit…
    PS my experience on fin has been good, nothing to complain about

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад +3

      Probably the dutasteride. Mechanistically it seems more likely that the RU. However I've seen some people complain of gyno online from RU. Since RU development was abandoned, we don't know for sure the incidence of sides with it.
      If you were only on Dut a week it wouldn't have had much chance to build up in your system and should be gone in a couple weeks. I'd probably pause a couple weeks and then probably just go back on fin for a while. You can always try adding dut later maybe once or twice a week and see what happens. I wouldn't add both dut and RU back in because if you feel the gyno coming back you won't know which one is causing it.
      Slow, deliberate steps are best, and just changing one thing at a time makes it easier to figure out what's going on if you get sides.

    Im sry but i have a question regarding finasteride effects. Recently i read the study you used in ur videos the meta analysis on suicide and depression from france. The cited a study fro explaining the possible biology reasons that such might occur
    Study called:
    The connection of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors to the development of depression
    I dont want to get into neurosteoids stuff since most lf it is basend on rats and stuff, but why in the first section highlight the also say
    „Finasteride is an inhibitor of dopamine receptor 1-downstream signaling“
    Ive seen you point out flaws in some study regarding transfering rident data in humans. Are those researchers simply not aware of that fact or are they ignorant?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад +2

      The article is a review of studies on neurologic effects of finasteride, and the studies looking at dopamine are on rats. So they don't prove that humans have the same effects, because of the different effects of finasteride on the two 5AR isoenzymes, and the different doses used.
      No the investigators are not being ignorant. There are people claiming that finasteride causes depression in humans, so these researchers are investigating possible mechanisms that would explain depression from finasteride. I don't think that it has been shown that finasteride causes depression, and I did a video on that, ruclips.net/video/1p5RD1Yd6jE/видео.html . But generally researchers do animal research first, and if they find anything in animals, they then do studies in humans. Since measuring neurosteroid levels in the brain of humans is not that easy to do, sometimes researchers will just publish the results of animal research, and usually they'll say that further human research is necessary to see if the same results hold in humans. Until that is done, any link between the effects in animals versus humans is just speculative.

      Yo!
      For most people every day use VS EOD use likely won't make much of a difference.
      Hair growth is cyclical so the minimum amount of time to expect to see any results is 3 months, but it can take as long as over a year for finasteride to really flex its muscles. A lot of it will be based on the conditions of your scalp when you begin treatment, such as how many hairs you have in the telogen phase which is randomized throughout the scalp since hair growth isn't uniform.
      If you were on it for 2 years before and your hair is stabilized then I imagine your hair will continue to be stable even with every other day usage.

    random question: Lets say i have hair shedding from minoxidil after stopping for one month, then go back on treatment. How long would it take for those hairs to return after starting again? assuming it's just causing general hair shed and not all from androgenic alopecia.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад

      Probably about 3 months since that's how long the telogen phase lasts.

    Kevin, why do you prefer pantostin instead of asking from your local pharmacy to add 17α-estradiol to your minoxidil solution ??? 🤔

    Hey I'm curious as to whether minoxidil loses efficacy over time and if stopping it after prolonged use can cause permanent follicle death?

      No, it works indefinitely but you need to use it with a 5AR inhibitor for long term benefit.

    I do hope at some point in the future probably not during my lifetime we'll have genetic engineering where we could go and have our bodies modified to reduce the DHT production after we're done with puberty.

    Hello Ken. To be honest i follow team 3d alpha and i like how he presents his content, but his support on DHT always kept me on edge about some his information. He likes to overhype some theories that have not been proved. He also dislikes most of the medical community, mainly because he believes they dont like to treat causes but symptoms.
    I have one question that is gaining some spotlight. Some reddit users (i know... lol) believe that DHT on the chest tissues may help prevent gyno and thats one of the main reason why Fin/Dut can cause it... What's your opinion on this?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад +1

      There's a review article from 2022 looking at medical gyno treatments. There are 2 pretty old, small studies on using DHT topically with some benefit, but that's probably not enough data to say if it really works. Data that goes against low DHT as being the root cause of gyno is this study, www.fertstert.org/article/S0015-0282(13)03388-8/fulltext, that says that gyno is not seen in congenital 5AR type 2 deficient males. For 5AR blockers, I assume gyno is probably related to chaining estrogen levels. Maybe people who are born with 5AR deficiency compensate their enzyme levels or estrogen receptors in some way so that they don't end up getting gyno. But if gyno was just from lack of DHT, you'd think men born with 5AR deficiency would have a good chance of getting it.

    Kevin what do you think would be superior in the Long run: taking 0,5 mg dutasteride every day vs taking 1,5 mg or 1 mg dutasteride 3 Times a week?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад +1

      Probably about the same. Although dutasteride has a long half life so 1.5 might be better every other day. We don't have exact data on the amount of dot suppression but it is probably between 50 to 80 percent scalp DHT suppression.

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  11 месяцев назад

      Give the dutasteride at least another 8-10 months before deciding on a hair transplant. Beyond that, there are no issues with getting a hair transplant. Issues like donor availability will not be as big of an issue with treatments like verteporfin on the horizon.
