Natural beauty!! Female Pileated Woodpecker!

- This female Pileated Woodpecker is the newest PW to the yard. She does not get on the feeders but likes to feed on the suet crumbs on the ground under the feeders. She doesn't seem to be as skittish as the others. I enjoy watching her peacefully picking through the grass for little bits of food! It's always a great birdie day! #birds #birdwatching #pileatedwoodpecker #beautifulbirds #nature #wildlife #nikon #nikoncoolpixp1000 #kalamazoo

My favorite bird!
What a natural beauty indeed! 😊
Thank you for sharing this video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Such a brilliant closeup. Strong, solid body, beautiful plumage and the dash of bright red for her hat. WOW ! I only see these high up in the trees . Thanks for sharing this magnificent bird.
We have 4 or 5 that live around here! I see them on a daily basis. It's fun when I am walking through the yard and see them flying across the yard... just to be in their presence is amazing!
So cute! Pileated woodpeckers look like they have a red haircut 😂
😍😍😍
Great shot, she is so beautiful!
For me, it's odd to see woodpeckers walking/hopping on the ground since they almost always feed in the trees and or birdfeeders.. 😊 Great video!!
Agree. This is the first time I've seen one feeding on a lawn. The ones at our feeders get one sunflower seed and fly to a nearby tree to eat it. Then they return and repeat.
She seems to be a bit unusual. We have 4 or 5 of them here and she's the only that feeds on the ground. She seems to be afraid of the feeders. I have seen her do fly-bys but she always ends up eating in the grass!
@@thebirdperch_MI She could have an injured foot-leg and can't hang or walk on a feeder.? 🤷🏻♂️
How do you tell male from female?
The red feathers on the male's head extend to the bill. The red on the female stops at the top of the head.
