      … I think the human mind gravitates to what it does NOT know. Strange how I find myself watching a TRUCKER talk about trucking or how trash is RECYCLED for 30+ minutes and then at the end, I'm like, "why in the heck did I just wasth that!?" But, I think the human brain is fascinated with things that our eyes haven't seen, or things we don't know … so we find ourselves glued to things we'd never even consider otherwise.

      Why would he have not filmed it vertically? It captured the bird and tree perfectly, horizontally would've added unnecessary background stuff, that wasn't even focus of the video at all. Also you can watch veritcal videos on youtube in fullscreen nowadays.

      @ph4ntom ツ Normally when someone makes a comment like that, it's because the video is painful to watch through because of the angle and filming, since that's basically the whole purpose of making this joke in the first place. This person here just looks quite dumb for not realising that the video is perfectly fine even in vertical video format. lol

    • @bakedutah8411
      @bakedutah8411 5 лет назад +9

      @Warped Perception, sorry, but nope. There is _never_ a proper use of portrait videos, there never _will_ be unless and until all the TVs and movie theater screens in the world are turned on their ends. And I suspect you agree - almost if not completely; the mere fact you even made the comment shows that in general you despair at vertical videos as much as I do 😀.

    • @xxXthekevXxx
      @xxXthekevXxx 5 лет назад +56

      Baked Utah well the subject of the video was indeed a slim vertical object, so it’s perfect for capturing in portrait mode. There’s no reason you’d wanna see the empty space on either side of the tree. Also the bird is bigger on the phone screen in portrait. Fills the whole screen!

    • @bakedutah8411
      @bakedutah8411 5 лет назад +2

      Kevin Benoit, all perfectly logical. But I’ll bet you $10,000 that if we had a landscape version, “empty space” an’ all, and were then to show both to a random audience in a “blind” test, the vast majority would say they preferred the landscape version. I’m equally confident that we’re you to ask pro wildlife videographers how they’d frame the shot, none of them would do it in portrait. In fact, if they had only a single camera, not only would they do it in landscape, but they’d also pull back, thereby introducing empty space *vertically* as well as horizontally, and then shoot at a resolution higher than that intended for display. That would give them the ability to simulate cutting between two cameras. Is there anything fundamental and objectively “correct” about this landscape bias? I don’t think so, other than perhaps we humans find it slightly less tiring to move our heads from side to side than up and down. But *subectively*, created in part by fashion (and also a desire to force us to go to cinemas and not rely on the telly at home), there is absolutely a “correct” way, and it’s landscape. For video, that is. For still work, then do what works, and so yes, tall slim subjects are usually better done in portrait for stills.
