  • A step by step guide showing an easy way to remove a screw down watch back which is either really stubborn, stuck or siezed. Bacially stuck so tight normal watch tools will not work. Using Standard tools should be tried first this method is the last ditch attempt when all else fails and it is really stuck on. The solution is to glue another nut to the back and use spanners to release it, then remove the nut. This how to guide takes you through each step of the process. This was a real a problem for me with this solar powered watch when the battery needed replacing, and this is me actually removing the back. It is not a reconstruction the back was not budging at all when I started and in the end I have the watch opened.

I've done the same thing with a hot-melt glue gun using a piece of timber to connect to the watch back. Put the timber in the vice and twist the watch. Once removed, the glue can be peeled off.

I ended up submerging my watch in very hot water and worked a treat!

Watch vendors should just mount a big nut on the back of watches as standard so they can easily be maintained.

Tip use painter tape, it's easier to remove the loctite

A big thumb-up for your creativity and an even bigger thumb-down for what you do to this poor little watch, starting from placing it with the glass directly to your desk to scratching the back when removing the nut... it really hurts me to see all this. My advice: if you cannot open the watch invest the 5 bucks and bring it to a professional.

the wooden table didn't damage the hardex glass, also back not scratched. in the end it is a working and worn £200 watch repaired for £15 not £100 for professional service. the back was so so stuck normal watch opening tools could not get enough torque to open it. Of course this is just my solution to the problem, does not have to be only solution
