    I own both these pickups. I cannot recommend the K+K to anyone who is using in any situation other than a very quiet solo gig. It is very “woody” sounding but a nightmare if used where even a reasonable amount of higher volume is needed. The M-1, based on my experience, sounds better and is far less prone to feedback. It is far more suitable for using where higher volumes are needed or you are competing with other instruments.

      I wanted an Anthem installed in a new D18 but shop recommended K&K. I agree the K&K is prone to feedback big time and is useless with my electric stereo rig but with a LoudBox Mini and an Origin Effects Magma 57 it sounds pretty, pretty good. My next guitar will probably be an 000-18 with M1 or M80. I use this set up at home, do not play out and love the D18.

      @@scottmoreau5630 Agreed. I never had an issue with my K&K pure mini pickup. I run it into an LR Baggs belt clip pre amp and into a 100 watt acoustic amp. Will it feedback? Yes. Can I control it? Easily. No problem.

  • @eekamoose

    Very good comparison. I have an LR Baggs M80 installed on a Guild D25 and can't praise it highly enough. The M80 is similar to the M1 but besides the humbuckers it has extra transducers to pick up body sound and it costs more. It sounds much fuller and more natural than the M1. Best-sounding pickup I've ever used. I haven't tried it at a high-volume gig so I can't say how resistant it will be to feedback problems in a real-life situation. I suspect that it will be more prone to feedback than an M1. But the sound of the M80 is the closest to miking up a guitar that I have ever heard from a pickup and I love it.

      I own the M80. Although it may be the best sounding SOUNDHOLE pickup, it's definitely not the best sounding pickup I've heard. That award goes to the L.R. Baggs Anthem. Unfortunately I had to send my Anthem back though because of major feedback issues. Great thing about the M80 is zero feedback even at loud volumes.
      I'm now going to try the K&K Pure Mini since I think it sounds more natural than the M80. If it resists feedback like the M80 does, I'm sending the M80 back.

    • @eekamoose
      @eekamoose 2 года назад +1

      @@Nayah9 Interesting co-incidence: a couple of years ago I had a K&K Pure Mini installed in a Takamine EN10C that I’ve owned for 30 years and I love it. I can’t say which I like best, the M80 or the Pure Mini - but either of them will make a piezo pickup sound like dogs**t.

    • @Nayah9
      @Nayah9 2 года назад +1

      @@eekamoose I'd probably give the edge to the K&K since it doesn't get in the way of my playing like the M80 does. Too many times I hit the M80 with my pick since it sits very close to the strings, and when that happens, boy do you hear it...
      I also do a lot of percussive playing like hitting muted strings to get a snare sound and a magnetic pickup just doesn't react well with this style of playing. Even the M80 with its suspended coil. Sounds a bit too thin and it's a little harsh on the highs. Similar to the way a Strat would respond, with a little more wood.
      All the K&K needs is some EQ (like any pickup) mainly to bring back the highs and tame the lows but once that's done you have a discrete and hassle-free pickup that sounds more acoustic than any magnetic pickup out there. It does have a little quack to it (it's a piezo) but I still prefer that to the magnetic sound for an acoustic. That's just for me and my playing style of course... :)
      That being said I'm receiving my K&K Pure Mini tomorrow (the version with the volume wheel included). Here's hoping it performs well in my mahogany Martin...

      I have the JJB Prestige 330 (like a K&K). Used without a eq pedal or preamp its very bright unlike the k&k. Supposed to be identical though. Trick is to get the right input impedance. With a 10 band EQ pedal or a good preamp you can basically shape any sound out of of them. Never had any feedback problems also. I have a video of the JJB ruclips.net/video/hnuRiSDufOM/видео.html

      They sound pretty natural in a small room and a small amp but if you run though a PA they get really boxy. I had one in my D28 for a couple years and really hated it. I use an LR Baggs Anthem now.

      Its a mic. It literally picks up the "fully finished signal" and not the early stages of the signal like pickups do.

    • @aangtonio5570
      @aangtonio5570 Год назад +2

      Yep, but you can't use the AT2035 at live venues without getting hellish amounts of feedback (even worse with full band setting). That's why choosing a good acoustic guitar pickup and/or preamp matters.

    Good video soundwise, but... to be fair, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, since the LR Baggs is a magnetic transducer and the K&K is a piezo one. Both types have their own idiosyncracies which color the sound quite distinctively and may work (or not) depending on the instrument, preamps and other factors.

  • @aaronlarsen7447

    I think the knk pure mini sounds a bit better. Magnetic pickups sound dull and percussive hits sound unnatural. I came to KnK mini after years of undersaddle transducer torcher. I use a Yamaha AG stomp preamp, to a Fishman 60 watt acoustic amp. If I have to go real loud I have a sound hole plug, but it's mostly super high, super low frequencies, reverb and proximity that cause feedback. A feedback prone room might have its own reverb and you can turn yours down or off. We have to e.q. anything we use. Notch filters are my last stage of defense against feedback. They literally remove frequency, or tone.
