    All across RUclips viral videos abound of great whites and other sharks attacking boats with a ferocity that has never been seen before. The question is why? Is this simply a case of more people having cameras to video behavior? Or is there something else happening?🤔Dr. Mike Heithaus and PHD Candidate Sara Casareto are here to investigate!

    I had my paddle board tied to the back of our anchored boat in the gulfcoast off of Florida. I went to go paddling until I realized there was a shark taking shade under my board. I quickly chose not to get on my board.

    Sharks hear the motors and they know there will be a nice morsel that can’t run away because it’s stuck on a fishing line.
    Or they hear the boat bouncing in the waves and it simulates the sound water makes lapping on a dead carcass floating in the sea. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @BillAdams-fb3jm
    @BillAdams-fb3jm 2 месяца назад +1

    This doesn't feel like a mystery. Sharks are cpming to boats because they have learned that it's a really easy way to get a handout. They chew on the motors if there's no bag in the water, because the propellor also hangs a little off the back of the boat. I can't imagine they'd try to chew on the prop if it was spinning, and the first thing these researchers appear to do is cut the engines, so chewing on the prop is safe.

    They make it look like that shark attacked the boat engine for no reason, when you can clearly see them feeding the shark a fish...

  • @astrid8245
    @astrid8245 Год назад +3

    They attack because they know
    1. You have more food on boat
    2. Human is bigger food is on the other side of pole
    3. Event triggering revenge maybe they think you are fishing sharks
    or you are taking their food as another predator of fish competing

    • @-Eiryr
      @-Eiryr 3 месяца назад +1

      Literally all wrong lol, 1 they’re attracted to the electronic pulse from the motor, 2.the oxygen wasters on this boat put fish food around the motor so they could get their 30 seconds of attention from clips.

  • @damaslpressath

    yesss....many atract them for a cool foto, but others are not sitting in in a save boat. So boars or foxes get cheekily and starting to bite people. All of those persons atracting sharks, private or for diving tourism should be charged. Freighters that transport cattle, pigs or fish etc. and dump many dead animals not far from beaches must be punished. Then we no longer have to ask “why”.

    Too many sharks are being fed from boats nowadays. The practice of chumming to attract sharks should be illegal before sharks become any more aggressive toward boats & try harder to actually destroy boats & take people directly from boats.
