JP, I just received my Heipi tripod this afternoon. After playing with it for a few hours I totally agree with your assessment. I think this is the neatest thing I’ve ever seen. Thanks for turning me on to it.
Great to hear! You are the first person I have heard from. We haven't even received the couple we ordered. So glad to hear you love it!
Could i use a L bracket with the Heipi tripod? My L bracket is about 1-2mm wider than the peak design plate. Looks like there is zero adjustment with the Heipi's plate retention system.
That's the coolest tripod I've ever seen! It's be amazing to use on our RV trips as we travel to so many different places. Totally want one. I'm sold. Just can't afford one right now lol
Save up. It really is a nice tripod!
Lightweight and quick... this might finally be the one to come with me on hiking tours. Kickstarter price seems a bargain - still a lot of money. I trust you on this Jay!
I loved shooting with it. Very light and easy to use.
Very awesome. I just bought a Leofoto but it’s pretty large. I think this would be perfect for trekking.
It is nice and small and light weight in your hands!
Something new and interesting. I think I'll be getting this for sure
Sounds like a great plan. We loved it!
Jay P, I just signed up for the early bird Kickstarter based on your recommendation as I'm all about lightweight, multi-use, and portability. My only current tripod (Manfrotto) is very good but has NOT ONE of those 3 features! 🤣
Great to hear! The many uses make it so unique and versatile. Thanks for your comment!
How tighten it with larger arca swiss plates or Cages with arca swiss slot?
I just pledged to the Kickstarter campaign! And you were at one of my favorite locations, LACMA.
Nice! That is a really nice place to see come great art!
Great video. I love the lever system and avoid any tripod that doesn't offer it.
Glad you liked the video. Thanks for your comment!
It looks very promising!
Sure does! Thanks for your comment!
Great Tripod! Does the current Peak Design standard plate fit on it as easily as an Arka Swiss plate?
I literally have never said this before, but that is the coolest tripod I’ve ever seen
I had the same reaction. Thanks for your comment!
@@TheSlantedLens of course! Long time fan, learned many things from you when I was starting my business (and still do!)
AFAIK the Gizto Traveler series can do all of these things. But of course, they are more expensive & don't come heads or quick-release mounts.
The mobile phone attachment is unique. Great feature!
This HEIPI is so versatile. Love it!
They do make great tripods as well.
Nice! :)
Glad you liked it. Appreciate your comment!
This is a wonderful and more versatile tripod over the Peak Design CF unit and I am now using the tripod more often due to its studier design and leveled billhead. For someone who uses the full length SmallRig Baseplate on the base of the camera, I would like to see Heipi (or Peak Design or SmallRig.... someone please!!!) makes a camera belt clip/belt holster/vest with the same locking mechanism so that I can quickly clip my camera with full length Arca Swiss plate onto it and rotate to lock the camera securely when using a shoulder sling strap to avoid the strap flopping around when walking or running. Ready for another Kickstarter project HEIP.... before someone get there first??!!😉
That sounds like it would be a nice addition to our gear. Great idea!
Very interesting, I have watched a few videos on this tripod now.
One thing I have not seen mentioned yet is are there any means to adjust the tension on the leg locks if they come loose over time ?
That little lock lever for the ball head worries me a little. Would have preferred the traditional screw knob to tighten.
Yes, there are little screws where you can adjust the tension on the leg locks.
Excellent video, Jay P. How do you find the rotation and panning once in portrait mode? Is it easy to pan the camera around and rotate it as required when in the portrait mode? Can you do a 360 degree pan vertically once in the portrait mode? If not, what's the most it will rotate along the vertical axis in portrait mode? This happens to be one of the downsides of the PD tripod I believe (based on other reviews I've watched), where you have to remove the camera entirely and reorient it on the mount to have it pan and rotate (not 360deg) when in portrait mode.
It pans on a ball head in portrait mode 360 degrees. You don't have to remove the camera. And there are two bubble levels to help you level it.
Hi, I beleive there was video about using blue and yellow filters for to shoot nice sunset and day for night shoot for close ups. I been searching everywhere but can't find it. would u be able to share? thx
This might be it: ruclips.net/video/r4vXyCMCHNU/видео.html
Or here are some of our other videos about using filters: ruclips.net/user/TheSlantedLenssearch?query=filter
It looks like PD especially the locks, but it quite different in the design and its concept. PD's sqeeze whole space and made it compact so designed the legs in non-cylinder shape. And this stuff is try to "fill up" (or "make use") the space so designed the "sub tripod" as 3-pillar center column to make it more stable when center lift up or just separate use. This stuff seems interesting but I already had PD carbon when it was in Kickstarter.
Hope you are happy with your tripod!
I noticed when you placed the other ball head, and took the collar off, there was some bobbing around, was that from taking the collar off and nothing was locking the center columns in place?
If you take the collar off you cannot lock the center column. Some ball heads will fit without having to remove the collar.
Looks like a gret product! If the company was more established, I'd have likely pulled the trigger.
Designed by a photographer. It's a nice one!
INGENIOUS
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Can you take out the inter column tripod feet so it's just the ball head the actual tripod?
The ball head is removable. The center column is removable. You can have all 3 pieces together or separate or ball head on center column or ball head on tripod.
Reminds me of the Peak Design Carbon fiber travel tripod. But this is more convenient.
It is also not as pricey as Peak Design.
Tq spr.. 🥰
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great design! like the small tripod most, and the hidden phone clip really excites me. With this tripod, I could record myself while taking pictures. Thanks for sharing
Great idea. Have fun with your shoots!
Why are you recording yourself taking a picture?
The 3 post center column is presumably stiffer than a single post center column. But at 5:13 the tripod seems to vibrate a lot when he puts his hands on it.
He was moving his hands around. We found it to be stable!
@@TheSlantedLens Thanks!
It looks like he didn't tighten the center tri-column. I notice the camera moves quite a bit when he puts his hand on the center tri-column.
Hey JP, are you giving good review because you’ve got free?
I gave it a good review because it is a good product!
Great idea but I'm tired of Kickstarter/ Indiegogo.
It seems to be the way to introduce new products lately. Thanks for watching!
Would be a good idea to mention if you were sponsored to make this video. It feels like I’m watching an advertisement.
We do indicate that it is a sponsored video. There is a card in the upper left corner when you start watching the video.
Will this take the Ulanzi f38 plates?
That is a good question. I will check with Heipi!
Like this one up on peak design and ulanzi tripods how ?much ?
Check out the kickstarter page: bit.ly/3eGchKf
Is this still your current travel tripod? I'm torn between this and the Ulanzi Zero F38. Thanks.
Yes, still using the Heipi Tripod and we really like it.
@@TheSlantedLens That's good to know, thanks!
The panorama function should be on the top of the ball head.
Yes. That's a good point.
I have used tripods that have it in either place. I think it is easier to see when your camera is on it when it is at the bottom.
That center column looks flimsy when extended or separated
It is the same carbon fiber as the rest of the tripod. We did not find it flimsy.
The center column sounds as if it is made from metal - that means it can bend and then the tripod is a goner...
It is the same carbon fiber as the rest of the tripod. We did not find it flimsy.
Where and how much to buy this tripod?
You can buy the tripod here: bit.ly/3Olhk0e
Looks like it has some similarities to the Peak Design tripods. Have you tried the PD? How do they compare?
That would be a great comparison video. We will see what we can do.
You can get the Ulanzi which is 95% similar for almost half the price 👍
I haven't tried that one. I will have to check it out.
@@TheSlantedLens check out the reviews, it really is very highly rated
Looks like a great tripod! Have you tried the new Ulanzi travel tripod? If you have, wondering what your thoughts are between the two? Thanks for your always great videos!
That is a good questions. I have not tested the Ulanzi tripod.
I really wish you said right up front that it’s kickstarter vapourware. I never buy anything on kickstarter.
Well, give it some time. We are super impressed with it!
I was all queued up to say something snarky about ripping off peak design… which is still what this is, so IDK about the vid title… BUT, I gotta admit this looks pretty interesting. The ball head part is similar to how I use my PD now
We didn't expect it but we absolutely loved working with the tripod!
Of course after I pull the trigger on purchasing the Peak Design tripod this campaign comes out. I enjoy the PD tripod but it's so expensive and the proprietary plate is a bit of a pain if you don't have one on every tripod collar/camera body. Sure, you can fix this by removing the slide blocks on other brands' plates but it still isn't as secure feeling. Oh, and I lost the allen key set that comes with the tripod on my first shoot. Ugh.
That does stink. Perhaps you can purchase another allen key set.
It's beautifully designed for sure but $300 for the early bird version and $400 otherwise? That's a rip off and I'm sick of brands asking for ridiculous prices simply because they put the "professional photography gear" label on it. I've been doing professional photo shoots for over 6 years now, full time, using an $80 tripod from K&F concept and it works perfectly fine. The couple of extra features on this fancy tripod are just gadgets you won't use 99% of the time. If you're reading this, please don't give your money to brands clearly ripping us photographers off.
You can't get a great tripod for $80, speaking from being in the industry for over 30 years and using a myriad of tripods. Purchasing a pro tripod really does make a difference. You will know if when you try one out.
@@TheSlantedLens Sorry to disappoint you but my very first tripod when I started doing photography full time was one from an expensive brand, with stellar reviews. So yeah, I have tried them. After a few months of use, I wasn't very happy with it (already showing minor signs of tear and just too heavy), so I decided to replace it and give a shot to a cheap brand. Best investment I made. Not only was it light, it was very sturdy and functional. Six years of full time use, including many travels, and it's still going strong and not showing nearly as much wear and tear as the other one did in less than a year. A hands down win.
I'd add that before that, I worked many years in TV and I had a similar experience. Cheap tripods were doing the job just as well as expensive ones. The only difference was at the level of super high end stuff for very heavy gear, but photographers don't use these.
Also, don't be naive, if they're selling the early bird version at $300, you can be sure they're already making a profit at this price. That gives you a good idea of how much of a rip off $400 really is.
I love your content man, but please, we need to call out these brands ripping us off. Young photographers starting out won't know the difference and they'll lose their money for nothing. That's not cool.
@@TheSlantedLens Just saw you were actually sponsored to make this video, I somehow missed it initially. That explains a lot. You need to choose your sponsors a little more carefully. With 30 years experience, I certainly hope you don't need to take everything that comes your way. You can do better man.
I dosent have a center colomn which can be used with inclination
Not sure what you mean. Can you say that in other words?
Decent, is on amazon too
Not yet. Just the kickstarter right now.
BEWARE.
Most of us who paid for this tripod on Indiegogo have not received our tripods, which are now three months late. We were supposed to receive our tripods in March, but the shipping date has been pushed back two or three times. We were promised that we would receive our tripods in May. As of May 31, we have no tripod (at least those of in the US and Europe). HEIPI has stopped responding to requests for updated shipping information.
However, backers of HEIPI's Kickstarter campaign for this tripod have received their tripods as of early May. HEIPI is responding to backers on their Kickstarter campaign.
This is very disconcerting to say the least for those of us who are backers of the Indiegogo campaign.
So sorry to hear about that. I am assuming that they are behind on production.
I have always enjoyed your videos and regarded them as unbiased comment but this video is sooo tacky. The centre column jerks its way up and down and the whole thing looks flimsy and weak. This just sounds like a low grade ad. I really think you have done yourself a disservice here. Stick to proper reviews.
I have to agree to disagree here. I would not have done the review if it was not a quality product. We only agreed to do the review until after we received the product and were happy with the quality of the tripod.
So much for the $100 off :/ I was at least expecting something from the link but nope.
That was only for the kickstarter period.
Well, I think my Novoflex tripod are better...
Glad you are happy with your tripod. Thanks for watching!
Peak Design did this 3 years ago.
Yes, they did and they were very successful. Heipi it more versatile.
This is not similar tho. It's totally different to the PD and is far more useful than the useless PD.
Run far from this company. They have had my money since March, and I still have no tripod and they are refusing to refund my money or send the tripod. Total scam. I am out 339.00 at this point.
Not sure what is happening on your order. We know of lots and lots of people who have received their tripods and are very happy with their purchase. I know things were backordered for a while. Hope you get your tripod soon.
I got mine in 5 days shipped to the USA. They responded pretty quick on instagram
You know what they say..imitation is the best form of flattery..all these "newer" Tripod companies/kickstarter...all look like the Peak Design Tripod..the compact form factor that Peak Design "designed" everyone seems to be doing now..even the way the legs fold out..yes its not Peak Design and by now these other companies have "improved" on their initial design..but im sure if Peak Design wanted to..they will come out with a version 2..lol but this tripod is interesting none the less..very cool..lol
Very true. Thanks for watching!
Are you sure this is not a cheap Chinese knock off of Peak Design's tripod?
We used it and it is a good solid tripod!
@@TheSlantedLens Perhaps you may feel it is a solid tripod. You may have missed my observation that it is a Chinese knock off. A Chinese knock off is a product made from someone else's research and developement. Chinese fail to come up with anything original so they steal others' technologies and developement. Peak Design made this tripod a couple of years ago and as usual, the Chinese have copied it..
Looks really shaky. Specially the center column. But the idea is great.
But...
Better to wait for real and serious tests instead of believing these profit driven influencers - sorry ;)
I'll stay with my battle proofed FEISOL.
We found it to be easy to use, sturdy and so versatile!
The name of the tripod in the title would have kept me from watching. Good clickbait
Check it out, it's a great tripod!
Wow. RUclips has become a 21st century shopping channel. What a shameless endorsement.
In what way is it shameless. When we review products we are honest. We only agreed to do the review after getting the tripod and working with it. We would not have done the review if we were not happy with the quality of the tripod.
Where is the link for the tripod?
Kickstarter link in video description. It's $299 if you're one of the first 400 early backers, and there's still 165 open slots at the time I post this.
It is the kickstarter link in the description. Here it is again: bit.ly/3eGchKf
Looks like a dope tripod but maaaan it's a kickstarter. idk if I'd trust $300+ worth of pledge for a "potentially" great product. Only company I've ever gotten a good finished product from kickstartre/indiegogo is Sirui. The rest have extreme disappointments. dang...well great prototype though
Sorry to hear about your disappointment. I hope all goes well for Heipi!
