A TASTE OF GREASE | What Happened To Greek At The Harbor AFTER Kitchen Nightmares?

- In Ventura, California is Greek at the Harbor, started by Makis and his wife Lynn 30 years ago. The problem is that Makis did not trust his son Aris to take over the business from him. What was the cause of this tension?
More importantly is Greek at the Harbor still open today? What happened to the family after Kitchen Nightmares stopped filming?
We've got all the details so check it out!

Common thing with every Greek restaurant on this show...tyrant father making his family miserable. Son caught too much flack for wanting to do his own thing. Kids say stupid things all the time and not all of them want to be slaves for their parents in their family business. See too many of these parents who think they are entitled to their kids working for them.
Yea that's not what's happening here he didn't catch falk for wanting to do his own thing because it's obvious they paid for him to do exactly that but instead he chose to stay and try to take over the restaurant and he wasn't a kid when he basically said he didn't want to waste his life doing what his parents did
Seriously. It’s a kid’s job to go to school and live their own life - not “continue the family business” if they don’t want to. They’re lucky he came back and stuck around. I can’t imagine being that butthurt over a comment from a 17 year old.
That’s what happens in wog households
@@ashleyelisabeth6397yes! Absolut, they have to act adult. Children have the right for their own life. We don't have to kiss the asses of our parents all the time.
Working for greeks at a restaurant was my first job in early 80s. They kept calling us malaka and skatah. We eventually figured out what they meant (no internet back then). So me and the other dishwasher waited for the busiest night. We let dishes and pots slowly pile up. Eventually the greek boss noticed they were running out of plates, glasses, etc. He stormed in the back shouting and of course with plenty of malakas and skatahs. We nicely told him we figured out his insults and unless he apologize and promise never to use them again, we would no longer work. It didn't work, he threw us out using plenty of new insults we never figured out :)
😂
Bunch of Malakas
a classic trick, reminds me of the time me and a some folks working at the Greek Musket in DC decided to pull a prank eating bits of foam and then spitting them on the customers plate. when the manager got wise he shouting 'sucking bare, greek bags of shite, what is the meaning of this foam, you are a bastard, barefoot bastard '
I love hearing g “the long standing customers hated the new menu”. Yes they were so great no-one turned up to eat them.
Exactly that, were are these standing customers outside looking in or are they ghosts lol.
It's usually the three miserable loners that frequent any given place (my local grill went through something like this a while ago). They may go there every day, but you can't maintain a business with those numbers.
Exactly, those 4 people were not keeping you in business. Gordon is trying to get you new PAYING clientele.
In Arin's defense who didn't say stupid shit as a late teenager? Thankfully, he proves that all it was.
Exactly! Also, for a couple who were hurting so much from their son's immature words, they hurt their son a lot too - indirectly punishing him by not telling why they were not allowing him to take over the restaurant, for so many years. He kept asking his father for answers, and it took a celebrated chef for the father to finally reveal them.
@@OopsIDidItAgainUh-some people are not necessarily cut out to be parents…
@@ronatopaz2793sadly feels like most :/
These parents are terrible, keeping their son around to treat like crap, instead of telling him the truth, that they resent him, for something he said at a high school party. They are losers.

Holding something a dumb kid said against him is actually insane. Aris had all the reason to go no-contact because of how poorly he was treated by his dad but he still stayed, that alone should have demonstrated his commitment.
Interesting fact, when Gordon said Aris' performance was "finally something edible", it was the first record of the usage for the slang "he ate".
true and the second time was when i put a biscuit in my fish tank and the koi ate a small piece of it
The accusation of paid actors is so silly. Finding and paying 200+ amateur actors every episode on a reality TV show budget is just ridiculously unviable. A couple restaurant owners have claimed this, but I think they misinterpret the fact that KN reimburses diners and also requests that they don't let things go as they normally would. Most diners just deal with not getting what they want and don't come back, and the relaunch night is supposed to train the staff to get everything perfect so that doesn't happen in the future.
This is really not the same as someone being a "paid actor." While it could fit a technical definition of the term, it is certainly not what people think of and does not have the same implications.
But they can afford Pescatarians just at the exact moment Gordon asks, “What happens if the customer was a pescatarian?”
@@WhipLashJimmyFrank You understand that's called editing right? It didn't happen at exactly the same time. You make it sound like people with specific diets would cost a fortune to find.
It’s well known that the producers don’t pay people to go to the restaurant but they do speak to the people who dine there and ask them to play up complaints about the food for the show
A common theme with Greek restaurants on Kitchen Nightmares is that they survive until the current day.
Man lifts table with his teeth. Food, schmood- worth going there.
It's funny how some old customers complain, without thinking about the bigger picture. If the business is in a KN episode, it's probably because what they were doing didn't work.
You can't keep just 10 customers happy, when you need hundreds to survive
I hate when they claim the diners are paid actors. It’s such a ploy to skew the view of the show and the observation meal. The diners have their meals paid for and are told to point out anything that is wrong with their orders, even if they normally wouldn’t. Do yes they are told to “make complaints” it’s from a learning experience base. What many of the chefs/ owners fail to realize is most diners will eat a dish that is not prepared properly, say nothing, but make a point to not come back or to tell others what happened. Almost every dish came back? That means that your standards are typical to sending out almost every dish with something wrong with it on some level.
Always thought Aris kinda looks like Matthew Mercer
my SIL said this same thing when i was watching this episode with her, she said he looks like dollar store matt mercer
Him, Matt Mercer, and Dolph Ziggler are cousins.
*Tables enter the room*
Aris: 👁️👄👁️
Honestly very impressive how he can lift the tables with his teeth
Awesome to see at least one restaurant still alive post Kitchen Nightmares.
Table was the best thing on the menu
Dipped in chocolate sauce?
Thank you for another great video. I'd like to request a restaurant from Kitchen Nightmares for when you have the time. I think it was called Park's Edge? It's the episode where they grilled the lettuce. I hope you haven't covered it yet and I just overlooked it somehow. Thanks again.
I think it's a sandwich shop now, but I live in the area and know Park's Edge closed a long time ago. That episode was hilarious.
It’s coming up soon Diana!
painting over the murals with just plain blue paint was a huge mistake. those were gorgeous paintings.
a valid point if they didn't have the real thing staring at them
Rewatch it when you're not stoned.
"Kitch" and "naive" would be the critique.
no wonder bro has a strong ass greek chad like jaw the way he lifts tables with it
That was such a good episode! So glad you covered this!
12:42 its interesting how those "regular customers" that loved and miss the old menu, clearly weren't doing enough to keep the restaurant sales in the black in the first place. 😄🤔🤷♂️ So unless they were willing to eat there enough to help sales and also help promote the restaurant, then the old menu had to go!
Swapping out Tzaziki for Tahini is such a massive oversight and fuck up though. It completely changes the food profile and as that review commented it makes it seem like Gordon doesn't know the difference between greek and arab food.
Love your videos. I literally just saw the Brennen Taylor video last night. Really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. Much love!
Glad you like them!
If the food is so bad after the visit by Gordon, then the cooks are to blame. Gordon knows food, Greek or otherwise, and since when do reviews from Europe (not Greece) and Michigan have any bearing on a California restaurant?
Good question
Gordan Ramsey: finally something edible
Viewer: 😄😄😄😄
If these restaurants were doing so well and their food is actually so good that the regular clients then complain about the new menu created by one of the best chefs in the world, why on earth do they ask for help? if then they are not happy with the changes on the made to the decor and menu, I'm sure they would know after a few episodes that Chef Ramsey goes in to identify the problems , usually it's bad stubborn owners who are too set in their ways and even when their way doesn't work they simply won't accept it and drag it to the ground. Most that go back to the old ways just go down worse than a rotten bag of spuds! SMH.
i've been to greece on holiday several times, and never once saw a table-dance. two irish girls, yes; but no table dancing. though i did win a thousand euros and free drinks all night after winning a pool-tournament at the hotel. this was 18 years ago.
Aris looks like a broke Alexander the Great
This was such an uplifting story! Thank you for sharing it with us!
You are so welcome!
check out the walnut tree inn. originally opened by one of the first celebrity chefs way back in 1987. you know the drill, new owner, business goes down the shitter. at the time of filming, the WTI was about to celebrate it's 40th birthday.
You have to love a guy who at some point thought that working at a restaurant was too low and then he got into cryptoshit and nfts 😂
Really surprised to see a restaurant from KN that is still open until this day, good for them!
To be honest, this was the only episode that made me cry for real out of any Episode of any show ive watched😅
Ok so I was born and raised in Ventura county, and I worked at the harbor in the mid ninety's. I just can't remember ever seeing this place. There was a really good hot dog place that I remember though 😊
Long way from home now.
Thanks for the upload, last thing I'll watch before bed👍💙🏴
I don't remember this place either
it was such a happy ending, and then NFT happened
This episode always annoyed me. He was doing everything he could to help his parents - and he didn’t have to. He could’ve moved on and lived his own life. But they couldn’t get over some dumb comment he made as a teenager.

The customers that are said to be actors isnt exactly right. They are given the meal for free. But told to complain and send dishes back if theres even small problems with it. Like if food is too salty, cooked medium instead of medium rare, etc. There has to be something wrong in the first place for them to actually complain though. Most of the episodes you can easily see how bad the food is! There have been a handful of times where theres one actor that has to do a certain thing but that is extremely rare.
We've also seen Gordon go after customers that have nonsense complaints too.
if they were such loyal customers, they wouldn't drag the business online. they would talk with the staff, these are the loudest voices that simply ruin our society
Someone needs to find his dentist and study him
Excellent episode! Marika is cute as a button!
Ari's must have a pretty strong jaw to carry tables around like that, I'd hate to get bitten by him if he had rabies or something.
A parent should always want better for there kids.
Thanks for all your hard work, Reality TV Rescues Dude. :)
My pleasure!
I can understand his criticism of gordon's team painting over the murals.
The paid actor thing... i know the show has been known to dramaticise, but i would highly doubt they'd pay people to return food and pretend like it's crap.
They pay for the meals and encourage people to actually voice issues if they have any. We've literally seen Gordon go after customers whose complaints were nonsense before as well.
@@shadenox8164 That kind of reinforces my point, so thanks for pointing it out.
The parents really let a single comment Aris made when he was young and dumb influence how they treated him for years after the fact? Even if he did say that he wanted to do something else with his life, he obviously changed his mind and instead decided to pour an immeasurable amount of effort and passion into supporting his parents business.
I honestly think that the fact that they secretly held that against him even in the face of him trying to help them was disgusting.

Agreed. Somehow there’s always a bunch of ‘loyal customers’ that hated the changes. Where were all of these loyal customers when the restaurant was struggling? I could see bringing back one dish if it was highly popular/profitable, but they always do more than that.
@hunta3694 those 5 loyal customers who love garbage food lol

Mikey is being a bit disingenuous with the ''Paid Actors'' claim. The patrons just didn't like your food Mikey. That's it.
They are paid by having there meal completely paid by the production team and they have the customers complain about something
@@anthonygalati1240 No, they're asked to voice any complaints if they have them. Most people don't do that, they just quietly leave which isn't helpful.

you know, hearing another instance of gordon hiring actors to make the restaurant look bad really makes me wonder about the validity of this show
I once read a post on Reddit from an ex-crew member of Kitchen Nightmares, which said that the producers of the show ask the customers who come during filming, to vocally express if they didn't like the food and why. Typically, when customers don't like the food, they either quietly return it or just leave the restaurant, which maybe why many owners in this show believe that their customers like their food. So, when all of a sudden these owners see that the customers during the filming of the show were vocally critiquing and returning the food, they feel that they're actors. I understand why they feel so as they probably don't know that the customers are following the producers' directions.
In the defense of Gordon, it isn't him "hiring actors". These people aren't getting paid enough to be called actors if paid at all. They all sign an NDA and receive some instructions, but never to the point where they need to act like the food is bad. You can't film an empty restaurant and you can't have just anyone walk in without some sort of understanding that the show isn't about them and to not disrupt the filming for 5 minutes. I can't speak for other reality tv shows, but this one is mostly if not all realistic. While their might be some staging or suggestions from the producers on-set, it is always up to the person to carry out said acts. No one is forcing them to do anything on reality tv and Gordon is a bs detector. He wouldn't want anything than honest reviews and action from the people in the show, background or otherwise.
@@HaleyPotter102Exactly. There’s an instance of him going off on a woman who was clearly exaggerating/overly complaining just to get more screen time. He wants real complaints. The whole ‘paid actors’ thing is a convenient excuse for owners in denial.
@@hunta3694 Correct!
it’s annoying when supposed old timers complain about the menu and favorite dishes disappearing. I would rather lose my long time customers to gain more customers, because clearly these old timers aren’t keeping the doors open.
also complaining about things being set up is stupid. & no one made you sign up for the show, it was a choice.
