- Dreadscapes sent me a swim cap for review, so I'm sharing my two cents on their Dreadlock Swim Cap!
Visit them at dreadscapes.com...
Finally someone that actually swims and had locs. Thanks Queen for being straight yo the point
Thanks for reviewing this. I've been thinking about learning to swim but I didn't want to mess up my dreads. So knowing this is out there and it works gives me no more excuses lol
Oh and I'd like to say that when your hair was out and you that you don't go to work with your hair like that. I thought it looked amazing and that you're beautiful.
Awww much love! Appreciate you watching and the kind words. 😊
Thanks for the review. I have the 'Dreadscapes' swimcap. I would recommend that you ensure you order the right size. I have a medium and now need to order the small as the medium allowed water in (a lot of water!).
Noted!! Appreciate you sharing your experience :-)
Thanks for the review. My 7 year old daughter takes swim lessons. She has very thick wavy natural hair down her back. So needless to say we struggle with the average swim cap. I am going to get one of these.
+Karena Thomas Happy to share - let me know how the cap works out for her!
Thank you so much for this!! My daughters love to swim, but most swim caps can't contain their protective styles. Right now they are loving longer box braids and their standard caps were not going to cut it.
Happy to share this with you! Years later, I’m still using this cap and it’s a regular part of my swim routine!
Thanks for the review!
I didn't know a product like this existed!
Happy to share, appreciate you watching!
I am not a swimmer, but I hope to be one someday. My locs are about shoulder length too, and I was wandering about how I would keep my locs from being damaged by chlorine. Good to know that there are products out there like this. Thanks.
MsMalika64 Happy to share, thanks for watching!
Great review. I swim two or more times a week and my locs are mid back so I am always looking for a cap the will keep me dry and that isn’t a struggle to put on. I have a tips for you if you put a stocking cap under your swim cap you will be a lot dryer around the edges.
Thanks for that tip!!
thanks so much for sharing this! I have big hair and I love to swim, and I want to protect my hair, and normal caps weren't doing it for me! I'm gonna order!
Happy to share! I now use this cap in tandem with the arena cap here ruclips.net/video/X9nVRJARVak/видео.html the combo has worked well for me!
Cool. Thanks for letting me know about this review too. I don't have dreads but my afro is big and puffy so I need something like this. I will be subscribing to your channel to keep up with your races too.
Just ordered one by the way.
Cool!
Just subbed..I'm going to order this cap! Thanks for this review 👍🏾
Happy to share, let me know how it works for you! Thanks for watching and subbing :-)
AWESOME review. My 16 mo old locs are NOWHERE as thick and long as yours so I wonder what size I should order? I'm definitely checking out this brands website.
+CNique Leigh thanks for watching! You would probably be cool with the smallest size they offer because this one is still pretty large for me!
Edges wet is a con for me. Those are the most fragile part and if they are getting wet every time, you have to wash them. Even with conditioning, that's no good
My edges have remained in good condition
Would you still recommend this cap?
Thanks for the review.......Plus I like the waterproof iPod, where to get that???
+therealsjkansascity I got mine on Amazon, the maker is Audioflood
Snatch it back. I'm excited for this product. Way to find a gap in the market.
Ummmhmmmm! Will be putting it to good use
Your locs look perfect like that even for work 💕😊🔥🔥 I know it’s a lot but maybe a durag under the cap. Idk much love to you and thanks for the video
I’m so happy to find this video. I’m going on a vacation soon so I need something for my new locks. I’m not fully loced so I wonder Can I still go swim
You absolute can go swimming not fully loc’d!
Hi! About to start my triathlon training. How do you maintain your locs while swimming several times a week? I have 110 locks and they are shoulder length currently.
if you'd like to purchase a Dreadscapes swim cap and have it shipped from the US not Australia, check out my website www(dot)drydreads(dot)com . We now have children's size too.
I have recently gone back to wearing my locs in two-strand twists for a couple weeks, and then unraveling to maintain my palm roll longer. Inevitably, the bushy hair cometh. But I work to embrace it :-)
Thanks for reviewing this cap! I wanted to know, now that you've been using the cap for a couple of months has your opinion changed at all on it? Would you say that you do your laps and your locs dont get wet at all?
My opinion is that no cap will keep your hair 100% dry, BUT, I will say with this cap - at most I am dealing with damp edges, that's it! And honestly I think that is because I swim with an iPod, so the earbud cord causes the edge of the cap to lift a bit. When I take the cap off after swimming, there is not even enough moisture in my hair to wring it in a towel, it's simply just damp. I have continued to use the cap, and I still love the fact that it comes down low enough that it doesn't pull at my edges, which means no breakage. Thank you for watching and commenting!
+lhamilt Thank you for your response! I'm definitely going to purchase this cap. Since it's only damp, do you even have to wash it after the swim? I don't know about everyone else, but I would love to see a video about what you do with your hair after swimming/a week of training for the triathlon in general (ex: washing, style, and so on).
No problem! Because it is only damp (and because I'm often limited on time because I generally workout before heading to work) I don't wash it after a swim. In my earlier days of being loc'd I would do a water rinse, but that is because I was wearing swim caps that left my hair saturated with the chlorinated water. If my locs are in two-strand twists, it's very easy to shampoo, rinse, and apply an oil as a moisture sealant - all while maintaining the retwist at the root. I swear by two-strand twists for root maintenance, especially for folks that swim. Alternatively, if you're someone that interlocks, that works too.
Do you wash your hair after each swim .. I'm about to start swim lessons
Generally I rinsed my hair after swimming.
I dont got dreads but I need one cuz my hair is thacckk
Pls pls pls can u advice me swimming cap to make hair dry cos I hav long hair pls
gurpreet kaur this cap will definitely work for long hair! tinyurl.com/ozcg62j
I am wanting to start dreadlocks again. My main concern is I swim everyday and the last time I had locs they forever to dry(3ish hours). I am concerned about damage, mold(dun dun duuuun) and overall swapminess. Would you recommend this as an option so I wont have wet unpleasant hair everyday?
+Shanagins LeStrange I understand your concerns - and mold is very real, I believe I experienced it in the very back row of my locs. You may want to consider double capping. Like a fabric Arena cap and then a latex/silicone cap on top like Dreadscapes. The truth is nothing will keep your hair 100% dry, but double capping can help.
Thank you so much
I knew it was a matter of time before culture vultures swooped in on this industry, not surprised.
I love your hair btw.
+Steven Hill thank you
Facts. Smh
I Need One!
Thanks for sharing, please could you let me know what size you selected? Thanks.
Sure thing, my cap size was medium. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I've ordered mine!
Lucky Ding Cool! Let me know how it works for you :-)
thanks
your hair is beautiful
Thank you, appreciate the love!
Which one is better? Your first review on the product or this one?
I like this one for keeping water out as much as possible
Do you think your size cap would be to big for an 8 yes old? His locs are shoulder length
Catching up on my comments, i think it would be too big just because kids have smaller heads. Sorry 😔
Hello, have you found this product for sale in the US? I looked on Amazon, but it isn't there. The company website doesn't seem to work. I can only see their homepage. Great video! I am looking for a cap that keeps my hair dry. The "My Swim Cap" has pretty bad reviews haha. Thanks!
Looks like they have some stock on Etsy! www.etsy.com/shop/Dreadscapes
@lhamilt I'm interested in getting this cap. I'm going on vacation and I'd Want to swim but I don't want to mess My hair up. I know this is a UK based business. about how long will it take to get to the US? I'll be going on vacation in about 2 weeks. will it take longer than that?
also did it keep your hair dry all the way?
thanks in advance 😆
Ok i finished the video and you said it does keep the hair dry. got it!😆
+NaturallyCre cool! Did you end up ordering? I believe they are based in Australia but you might be able to expedite the order
I didn't end up ordering it. It was crunch time and I just ended up braiding my locs back into a ponytail for snorkeling. I was afraid I was going to mess them up or they'd get super frizzy while swimming in the ocean. Luckily, my locs did great!
+NaturallyCre Great to hear you found a solution that worked for you!
Where are the goggles from?
Speedo!
Also is it better to use the other cap you reviewed with a silicone on top or just this one?
I use a nylon/poly cap under this one b/c of the oil in my hair, it can sometimes cause the cap to slip - especially a silicone one.
Your hair looked cute to me.
Thank you for that :-) I go back and forth about how I feel about not seeing my roots/scalp having the locs. Sometimes I'm good with it, and other times not so much.
What size is the cap? Large? Extra large? Thanks!
I believe that this is the large cap!
lhamilt thank you ❤️
Now the noseclip
It didnt look like sealed well.
Keeps my hair from being entirely soaked, I’ll take it!
umm you wore the cap wrong instead of the lines on the side it is supposed to be on your forehead
Wait no I thought u were wearing a regular cap bit ur wear caps for dreadlocks
+Awesome Guy actually you taught me something new! I didn't know there was a proper way to put on a swimcap, now I know the seam should be front to back. The manufacturer of this cap shows it on their sit with their logo in the front, so I assumed that was the way it was supposed to be worn.
+lhamilt well now that the manufacturer shows that the logo goes in the front I'm not entirely sure anymore pecaise regular or competitive swim caps have the lines in the front and back and the logos on the side but I have never seen caps for dreadlocks . p.s I'm in the swim team for about 2 years and still learning more so I might have this all wrong
Looks handy but NO WAY I am going to wear a cap with a huuuuuge brand name.
It is quite large, I just roll with it
