What's weird to me is that WOLED never uses the RGB subpixels to display white, only the white subpixel. It seems to me that displaying RGB with the white subpixel would easily increase the brightness of white things, but for some reason WOLED only wants to use the white subpixel. I could see how this would increase the lifespan of RGB subpixels, but my guess is the real reason why is because the RGB subpixels don't exactly match the same white point of the white subpixel, and that's why they avoid displaying all of them at the same time unless you want to display a non white shade.

My windows are always open so thats a big no tor me. Next time, be a better human being instead of being angry at randoms on the internet for no reason.
The ambient light reflection issue on the QD-OLED panels is very real. In a normally lit room, the quantum dot layer is clearly visible, making blacks look not much better than those on an IPS panel. It's that bad. The panel is also difficult to clean - mist a clean, soft microfiber cloth with eyeglasses cleaner to remove fingerprints. Distilled water just spreads the finger grease around, making it nearly impossible to remove.
I returned my MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED because while the picture quality was great, the glossy coating just captures too may reflections from ambient light sources and the raised purplish blacks were definitely a deal breaker as I also use my computer under natural lighting conditions. I currently have the LG 45GR95QE-B and it’s totally fine in natural, artificial and no lighting conditions. It was hard to justify keeping the MSI when it only works well in 1 of the 3 lighting conditions so I sent it back. Hopefully next year’s model will be a bit better as I really wanted to like it.
yeah it's hard to capture how much better it is. The weird thing is even side by side you don't notice that much but when switching between monitors they both just have such a unique feel and I prefer the punchyness of the QD. it feels like colorful soft and smooth plastic, hard to explain. Not just yellows either as the video suggests...Reds, oranges, yellows, greens, even blues.
Couple of problems with the displayed AW3225QF: Turning DV and with HDR 1000, colors get clipped at about 500 nit brightness. That is, everything above it is white. If you calibrated the display, like with the Windows HDR calibration tool, brightness then gets limited to 500. In other words, the display is either dimm at 500 or won’t support Dolby Vision properly since that’s mastered for 1000 nits. - And, at HDR 1000, greys below 3% just slump to zero. What appears as fluke in reviews is very relevant in dark games, where detail in shadows gets lost (and on black hair in portraits).
What's your opinion on the quality of the matte coating on the LG? Some people on other youtube channels are acting like it's horrifically bad. Elsewhere I see it's allegedly a mild matte coating and LESS grainy than normal. So it's hard to know what to expect.
WAIT a sec. just for clarification, at 07:17 you said that the blacks on WOLED are better, but i notice that the Alienware has a glossy Display while the LG hasnt, could it be because the glossy panel is reflecting every little bit of light or are you sticking to your conclussion? I just wanna know that a 100%. thx
It's because of the QD-OLED layering, it doesn't have a polarizer so the Quantum Dots get stimulated causing a purple-ish effect on what's supposed to be dark/black spots of the image, also happens when the display is off.
As he also says in the video and as confirmed by RTINGS, every bit of ambient light causes black to shift slightly to purple. According to RTINGS, this is no longer the case when there is little to no ambient light, and then black is truly black again. The conclusion is, therefore, if you want to use these QD-OLEDs during the day, you should make sure that the monitor does not get direct light and not too much indirect light either. So, if the desk is angled or very close to the window, you will probably need shutters or a different monitor.
I say if someone just want OLED and can go with 42" the LG C3 is it, especially if it's on offer. Better image quality than all these monitors and has apps for movies/series too but I guess many PC or smaller monitor people here and therefor close on desk it's absolutely too large then.
@@flockelocke2297 what do you define as better image quality? It's clearly not as sharp due to lower PPI and it also has the old pixel layout, adding text fringing. so the only advantage really is the higher brightness and maybe the glossy, highly reflective coating, however that last point can be very subjective.

I have been using msi qd-oled for a month. A glossy screen is definitely not a good thing. It sharpens the image but reduces the contrast. Also difficult to clean
A glossy display enhances contrast. The reason you think it doesn’t is because it lacks a polarizer. Use the MSI in a light controlled room and you’ll have the best image quality on a gaming monitor in 2024.
Great review, many people who differ on the matte, glossy argument. Will literally have a comparison video of the monitors side by side, looking nearly identical. Yet saying it's noticeably worse. lol. I tested the alienware glossy 4k, went with the woled based on reviews like this. Thank you, it's truly nothing like those people are saying.
To get the most out of monitors with refresh rates of 480 Hz, 240 Hz, or 144 Hz, your PC needs to be capable of generating frames at the same rates, that is, 480 fps, 240 fps, or 144 fps, respectively. While a 144 Hz display will still look good, to achieve the best native performance, matching the frame rate to the refresh rate is essential. Otherwise, you won't experience the full potential of the higher refresh rates, and it might not make much sense to invest in them unless your system can keep up.
Perfect video and timing! I've literally been looking at these two monitors and debating on whether to pull the trigger on the AW or hold out for the LG, pretty much no comparisons between these two specific models out there at the mo, thanks for a fantastic video

might make sense since WOLED uses a white LED to make white color while QD OLED uses RGB. If you think about it, same goes for keyboard RGB white creates a pinkish hue while WRGB white is... well white.
I'm hoping there will be curved WOLED monitors sometime next year. I think curved will be more suitable for me as it can help with looking at the game's side user interface when curved. This can be of help for my visual impairment as I don't have to go out of my way to look closely at the sides. But to each their own. I don't want to go for an ultrawide because I'm blind in my left eye and I don't want something smaller than 4K. I have a 42" LG OLED TV and I use it as my monitor, including watching movies at night. Now if only there are dynamically-resizing monitors that slide the back monitors outwards towards the sides and brings it in with the sides of the 16x9 monitor. That would be great for movies and TV shows that show in 2.35:1 content.
why is not a single reviewer talking about how impossible it is to clean qd oled vs woled? Once you get anything on an qd oled it stays there. Microscratches, blueish residue and smearing awaits...
I had no issues cleaning my 271QRX using a normal dishcloth, wetting it ofcourse, just water. Nothing else. No scratches after. But yes it is more difficult to get rid of any kind of smudge. You have to work it over and over and let it air dry more than once, eventually its brand new looking.

Are there any dual mode displays that can switch between 1440p higher refresh rate and 2880p high refresh rate (doesn't have to be exactly 480Hz and 240Hz)? The 2880p mode for desktop use for increased screen space and sharper text and the 1440p mode for gaming because most gpus can't really render games at 2880p high/ultra and high fps. And of course it has to be matte.
I had Samsung G8 34 qd-oled but after one year of use the glossy screen makes my eyes irritated and hurting. Switched to Asus 32 4k oled 240 WOLED and no longer feel eyestrain from display (the G8 was on only 20 brightness because it was way too bright). Got little loss in color pop but otherwise panel is much more detailed and nice extra is 1080p 480hz
Pronunciation tip: "Triangular" has a G not a J and "owl" rhymes with "foul", not "bowl". Great comparison, your channel is in my top 10. You're the only reviewer who has mentioned that the LG has a peak brightness mode, which makes a huge difference for normal game/movie scenes, as can boost the brightness by up to 40 percent compared to a QD-OLED! Most people think OLEDs are too dim (I agree), but this feature makes me seriously consider this new WOLED.
Worth noting that LG WOLEDs for 2024 with GS in the name feature LGs new MLA+ WOLED panels with META 2.0 technology, giving them typical SDR brightness of 275 nits. This seems a decent step up from the sub 200 nits performance of LGs previous 2023 GR models.
Which is virtually useless except for brightness chasers. I barely use my VA panel at 10-20% brightness, and it's 300 nit. That's barely 60 nits in regular usage. At most on a bright day I might use 50%, which is still just 150 nits. So 200 nits is more than enough. Same applies for night, where I wouldn't even dream of wanting high nits, because then you just get flashbanged by every bright scene. In a way I'm glad people complain about the brightness, because it means I can get the lower brightness monitors for discounted prices because no one thinks they want them because of everyone spreading this brightness chasing disease. 300 nits is really all a person needs for bright HDR content, which every one of these monitors can achieve on the highlights, because almost no scene is going to be mostly full white. Even if you had a scene where you had the bottom half of the image being black and the top half being pure white, virtually all OLEDs can display that at 300 nits or higher, which means a more realistic scene is going to be even brighter, closer to 400-600 nits at the very least.
@@peoplez129 I'm sorry, if you're saying that beyond 200nits brightness is "useless" you really have no idea what makes good picture (and especially good HDR)
@@theSato SDR doesn't need more than 200 nits. Most people turn up their IPS monitors because the brightness counteracts IPS glow by making their pupils shrink from the brightness, making everything look darker, so by proxy the darker areas look darker in comparison to the bright areas. All OLEDs do about 600-1000 nits peak brightness on HDR, which is bright, and brighter than even most IPS screens.
@@peoplez129 On most IPS screens, I see less clouding with lower brightness. Thank you for sharing this useful information @theexpatgunner I will keep an eye out for GS models.
Great comparison and perfect timing…. Currently trying to decide between these two. The AW is only still in the race because of the relatively low price here in Switzerland (985 CHF). That LG is not available yet but will probably be 400.- more 😔
Def don't pay more. any of these are great monitors and there are better uses for a few hundreds bucks than getting a slightly "better" monitor. IMO anyway.
Just preordered a 32gs95ue as main monitor for trading but have 4070ti super, spent $600 on games alone that I don't even play and still getting a 5090 on release for the monitor. This is beyond wasting money at this, point it's ADHD XD
I would have preferred 1440p 360hz than 1080p 480hz as 1080p, already too blurry if you're used to 4k, especially looks blurry in the cropped modes. 1080p already looks bad to me on a 25" monitor. Yeah I know fast past games aren't about the eye candy but since I'm never going to be a professional esports gamer I see no reason to sacrifice that much in quality for a tiny bit extra motion performance. All this is to say that I would go for QD-OLED because it looks better
since for me my monitor MUST be curved and i hate 21:9 the alienware is pretty much the only option for know? since it uses a samsung panel i imagine it wont take long for samsung to release a G5/G7 OLED or something
Hey can you make video all different specs of monitor I mean I don't what srg and dcip is and the 10 % window and 25% window can you explain all theses terms
SRGB and DCI p3 are "color spaces". Think of it as the colors on a painters pallette. A wider color space means it can display a wider variety of colors. So a wider color space can produces more vibrant and bright colors. The window sizes refer to how much of the screen is lit up. So a 2% window size is a small highlight taking up about 1/50th of the screen. 50% takes up half Generally the bigger the window the lower the brightness. LCDs can usually push more full screen brightness than OLED or QD OLED WRGB has a white subpixel that also helps with full screen brightness since that's a weakness.
Personally when it comes to curved i'll say 100% if gaming on an ultrawide but it gets more questionable at 16:9 and on the note with the 480hz mode I can see it being good in games where the res doesn't matter as much and u just need raw fps
I was using a Samsung Odyssey G7 for some time which had an extreme curve of 1000R (that is way more curved then this with 1700R) and I really liked it for games and even other media, the first 3-4 days I actually disliked it, but after I got used to it, I noticed that it really helped with immersion, you get the feeling of looking at the objects itself rather then the display for some degree atleast, which was very apparent when swapping back to a flat display. The biggest downside is that it defnitely slightly distorts objects, which is absolutely not a problem for entertainment media (you still perceive flat lines as flat etc. just not perfectly flat), but as soon as you need to do something on the monitor where you need forms to be actually precise, the monitor becomes instantly unusable. Sidenote: For people that think that curved displays are not suited for competitive FPS. At the time I was using the 1000R display, was the first time I've managed to get Rank 10 on FACEIT (CSGO) and am still since then. I did peak on my current 360Hz display tho, but that is not because of the display but I generally improved. I would say curve or not curved is negilible for competitive gaming, from a performance PoV, the other display metrics matter more (Motion Blur > Refresh Rate btw. there are monitors that outperform higher refresh ones just simply due to better pixel response times or backlight strobing techniques.
A subjective impression cannot do it all. Maybe the QD-OLED is over-saturating colors, can't know without measurements (although we know the WOLED won't have a good color volume)
There are measurements in his specific reviews for these monitors, which seem to match other review outlets. The Samsung QD-OLEDs are defnitely more color accurate with sRGB dE
Yeah for me the color fringing on the new 32 inch 240 hz panel (gigabyte variant) qd oled was a deal breaker. Its entirely subjective and probably better w/ this new generation but for me I could see it instantly compared to my 27 inch IPS panel and just bothered me to no end. Even in game.
Hey, was it really bad then? I’m literally able to pull the trigger on the AW but thinking to hold out on the W-OLED as my setup is by a window and while not an issue in winter, summer evenings gaming I could see it being a mare, already got C series tv which handles reflection pretty well but can imagine glossy being a right mare on my desk
I would primarily use the monitor for my home office and for gaming in the afternoon. Should I be afraid of burn-in? You read so much about this on the Internet. But I don't know how far the technology has come.
But is it better for almost double the price? NO. Alien ware can go for £700-£800 in the UK after discounts while LG is still £1234 after their 5% discount.
I bought an LG and returned it. The blacks were so crushed and the colors were over saturated. Not to mention how dim it would get. I thought games a regularly played looked worse on it. Sure, at first glance it’s very eye catching because of how saturated everything is but when I actually used it for gaming and watching RUclips/anime it just looked off. Oddly enough, the switch looked great on it
I'm confused at your "very similar" descriptions because unless it's RUclips acting up, the QD-OLED looked like it has way more detail in a lot of scenes. What's going on?
The DP1.4 is a deal breaker for me. How can I strive for the latest and greatest 4k@240hz with a gorgeous picture quality an then use almost 3:1 lossy compression. Would have to use HDMI 2.1 on this monitors.
Yeah The UltraGear monitor has my eye but the gigabyte dp2.1 monitor might be the best gaming monitor in 2024 Only problem is direct light activating the qdoled panel but i have never seen this in person so idk what to pick Theyre my top two favorites
so far none of them are worth buying. We finally got 32" OLED but all of them have VRR flicker issues in dark scenes. Until that is fixed I will stay with my 32GQ950
the only flicker you will see is from loading screens when the frame rates go from 10fps to 240fps... you should frame cap anyway for with vrr for stable frame times which removes any sort of flicker anyway, rtings showed basically a game where its frame times are unstable and how this can cause oled to flicker.

Matte is matte, but yes, this is a slightly better quality matte than the ones found previous models.
still waiting for full glossy (with a polarizer like on LG oled TVs) 32inch to replace my C2 42.
WAIT a sec. just for clarification, at 07:17 you said that the blacks on WOLED are better, but i notice that the Alienware has a glossy Display while the LG hasnt, could it be because the glossy panel is reflecting every little bit of light or are you sticking to your conclussion?
Just when I needed an OLED comparison video, you came to my rescue!
i bought good one after watching his videos

Otherwise, you won't experience the full potential of the higher refresh rates, and it might not make much sense to invest in them unless your system can keep up.
can you explain why manufacturers insist on using dp 1.4 when 2.0 and 2.1 has been around since 2019 and 2022
The signal processing part costs significantly more. Not cents, dollars.
Perfect video and timing! I've literally been looking at these two monitors and debating on whether to pull the trigger on the AW or hold out for the LG, pretty much no comparisons between these two specific models out there at the mo, thanks for a fantastic video

@@meowlorda went for the AW - its readily available and came in like £500 cheaper than the LG during a summer sale, might depend on region price wise
In terms of the monitor, no regrets the curved screens actually really nice, pictures great and firmware issues sorted. HDR 1000 and True Black are great, the Glossy Screen is awesome and reflection really isn’t bad, the curved screen actually reduces the impact of it, I use headphones for audio usually so if sound isn’t an issue I don’t think you can go wrong and its a very high end monitor for a reasonable price. If you want all the bells and whistles go LG but got a quality OLED experience the AWs better value for money and also having a 65 inch LG CX Oled i prefer the AW for gaming
Don't you think that QD OLED has a more pinkish white, compared to WOLED?
might make sense since WOLED uses a white LED to make white color while QD OLED uses RGB.
Great video, thanks!
Hi, great video! Please share where you get your backgrounds😭💕 thanksss
why is not a single reviewer talking about how impossible it is to clean qd oled vs woled? Once you get anything on an qd oled it stays there. Microscratches, blueish residue and smearing awaits...
I had no issues cleaning my 271QRX using a normal dishcloth, wetting it ofcourse, just water. Nothing else. No scratches after. But yes it is more difficult to get rid of any kind of smudge. You have to work it over and over and let it air dry more than once, eventually its brand new looking.
Great Comparison. Thank you

There's definitely a weird red tint to the QD-OLED...

Hey can you make video all different specs of monitor I mean I don't what srg and dcip is and the 10 % window and 25% window can you explain all theses terms
SRGB and DCI p3 are "color spaces".
Think of it as the colors on a painters pallette. A wider color space means it can display a wider variety of colors.
So a wider color space can produces more vibrant and bright colors.
The window sizes refer to how much of the screen is lit up.
So a 2% window size is a small highlight taking up about 1/50th of the screen. 50% takes up half
Generally the bigger the window the lower the brightness. LCDs can usually push more full screen brightness than OLED or QD OLED
WRGB has a white subpixel that also helps with full screen brightness since that's a weakness.

Which one you pick?
I am between Dell and LG any suggestion?
Bist du sicher dass der alienware samsung panel hat? Wo steht das?
Glossy W-OLED is my end game. A shame I have to wait longer for it without having to use a TV.
I suggest the LG C4 for 42/48 inch sizing or the LG G4 for 55/65/77/83 sizing if you have the space
Exactly the video I've been waiting for, seems the LG is the better choice for multimedia and gaming.
This vid would’ve been better if it was recorded in HDR
can you please do the acer nitro xv271u m3?
Wtf... QD-oled isnt even oled any more with all that contrast gone with a simple light... 7:13
I can say that overall WOLED is much much better in almost every way. Good job LG.
But is it better for almost double the price? NO. Alien ware can go for £700-£800 in the UK after discounts while LG is still £1234 after their 5% discount.
If one used a QD-oled if its a TV or a monitor before you never gonna go back to Woled
I bought an LG and returned it. The blacks were so crushed and the colors were over saturated. Not to mention how dim it would get. I thought games a regularly played looked worse on it.

no nvidia graphics cards support 2.1
so far none of them are worth buying. We finally got 32" OLED but all of them have VRR flicker issues in dark scenes. Until that is fixed I will stay with my 32GQ950
actually there's a lot of reviews and videos showing that the LG 32 oled doesn't flicker in game in dark scenes but still flickers in menus
the only flicker you will see is from loading screens when the frame rates go from 10fps to 240fps... you should frame cap anyway for with vrr for stable frame times which removes any sort of flicker anyway, rtings showed basically a game where its frame times are unstable and how this can cause oled to flicker.
