      It’s all genetics! If you have bad genetics does not matter how much you train you will never be good- you may get marginally better then you were, but nowhere near someone who trains minimally but has great genetics. Life Is not fair my friends

      Yea you can be mr Olympia regardless of genetics Tom platz had no genetics. Arnold overcame bad genetics in his legs, Dorian Yates in his biceps and shoulders, Franco in his chest, they turned their genetics into a strength. It’s all in the mind Arnold never talks about genetics it’s in the mind if you can visualize it you can achieve it. It’s work ethic and mindset over genetics you can turn your shortcomings to strengths. Being a great bodybuilder is your passion do whatever it takes you will get it.

    Essentially the best thing to do if you have a fantasy about being a pro bodybuilder is to ascertain that your structure is theoretically good enough, then start lifting naturally for a bit, and then jump on low/moderate doses of gear - and pay extremely close attention to how you respond compared to others on similar stuff around you. If you need to take GH and slin to be 220lb at 5 foot 10 for a contest, then it's not meant for you and you should compete for fun if you still want to.

    Well said, a lot of people don't realize that with anything in life its not just the "want" that will get you there. Take the Navy SEALs for example, everybody wants to be one, but the attrition rate is so high because once you get there people are like "Oh shit, I just thought I was a bad ass"... Because you are the best in your own mind doesn't make you the best. You've got to be honest with yourself, accept what you are, and then you will be truly happy... But its different understanding that you didn't work as hard as you could and that it was apparent that if you tried harder your goals would have been attainable. And you know what I mean by that, e.g. Making a "F" on a test when you could have made an "A" if you would have studied, or not finishing a marathon run because you only trained short distances. Lee makes some great and obvious points!

    Keys to life; everything isn't for everybody and that's OK. Doesn't make anybody any less of a person for not being the best, or any better for being the best. It's cool to see somebody at his level and has had his success at such a young age is in touch with reality.

    I'm a lifetime clean lifter. I wanted big arms and I got them. I had to bulk right up, but to attain 19-1/2" arms was worth it. To hard gainers I say: Use basic exercises. Squats, bench press, and bent-over rowing. When the gains come . . and they WILL, if you train those three exercises hard enough . . then start doing ONE exercise for biceps and ONE exercise for triceps. Do warm up sets, then ONE set to absolute failure on the work set on every exercise.

    Lee talks a lot of sense, unfortunately most people are never going to be so good at anything sport wise they can make a career out of it. Best thing to do is enjoy what you are doing for yourself not anyone else.
    I only had a go at motorbike racing because other people said I should give it a go but quick as I could be I wasn't any good at racing and didn't enjoy it. I backed out before I spent too much money or got badly hurt.
    I've gone back to mountain bike racing which I'm even worst at but I enjoy it more and always feel good about it at the end.
    From what I can make out of Bostin Loyd he has got the potential to be good amateur body builder if not a pro, he just seems consumed with cutting corners and taking short cuts while encouraging everyone else to do the same so he can make money selling them crap.

    Well I think the main difference is bodybuilding is purely genetics, what you are born with, can't change muscle shape,size, insertions etc. But for sports you can practice and actually make it, you have to have some what decent genetics, but not to the degree of bodybuilding. The main thing is how badly do you want it? Of course the guy with crazy athletic genetics is going to have an easier time, but you can still make it. Etc Steph Curry, Julian Edelman, CJ Anderson. They don't have the best genetics, but they work there ass of and are still playing at an Elite Level.

    • @epl1100
      @epl1100 8 лет назад

      +Chris H but with bad genes and natural thin body you need to consume waaaaaaay more protein and calorie to get the same strength and size as those who have the genes. And most people don´t have the time or money to eat that much. Even those who are born to lift will need lots of money. They cannot work. and people who have the money need to work and don´t have the time to eat the entire day. That is the problem. As for myself I have pretty bad genes. Though it is possible for most people reach the 160kg bench press.

    • @chrish3079
      @chrish3079 8 лет назад

      erik lagcher Kind of sort of. Its not how big you are though, You have to look good for your frame, don't try to over do it. You really don't have to eat that much, stop listening to the bullshit advice they give you in magazines.
      My point was that Lee Priest was comparing bodybuilding to a sport, its not a sport though.

      @chrish3079 8 лет назад

      erik lagcher Truth is a lot of people on magazines, fitness models are on some type of drug.
      And for you its best if you just gain weight slowly you do not have to eat that much. Eat normally and if you want to gain weight eat little more, lose weight eat a little less. Don't do what magazines tell you to! What are your stats? How much you weigh

  • @ginabb29

    The bottom line is this : few people have great genetics for bodybuilding throughout their entire body. Some might say someone who has a smaller bone stucture, small wrists and other joints, narrow or just not very wide clavicles,etc. does not have good body building genetics---but is that persons genetics any worse than someone who is naturally husky, with a thicker bone structure, wider clavicles,thicker wrists and other joints but who also has a wider waist,wide pelvis,little taper from shoulders/back to waist, no taper in the calves due to thick ankles, and can't show much cuts, definition, or muscle separation at all-- no matter how much they try? I don't think so. While Lee Priest may have great genetics for arm development with his long muscle bellies,etc.--- overall I would not say he has great bodybuilding genetics, his clavicles are very narrow, making his head look large, almost like a dwarf or midget. Larry Scott, Rich Gaspari,Tom Platz, Phil Heath, and some others had narrow clavicles, Frank Zane, Serge Nubret, Flex Wheeler, had small wrists, Branch Warren, Jay Cutler, and some others had wide blocky waists,Bill Grant, Tony Pearson, Dennis Wolfe, and others had small calves. Should any of them have been told to hang it up because they did not have good bodybuilding genetics? And the truth is in certain areas as I mentioned they did not. I do understand where Lee is coming from. You have to be honest with youself in that it may not make sense to jeopordize your health going the drug route to chase a delusional dream that is not realistic. However, outside of that scenario it is foolish to say someone should not bodybuild if they are lacking in some areas of genetics. Should someone not bother learning to play the guitar because they are not gifted to be a virtuoso like Segovia, Chet Atkins, or JImi Hendrix? Should one not play tennis because they can't be good enough to be a pro? Should one not bother reading and broadening themselves intellectually if they are not as intellectually gifted as to be an Einstein? It's silly and foolish. The fact is the medical community now says that strength/resistance training is essential for overall health,and besides that anyone and everyone can improve their physique and get stronger through bodybuiding/resistance training.

      @Daylight Spook The thumb overlapping on wrists can sometimes be an inaccurate assessment.
      Sometimes that can happen if you have long fingers but not necessarily small wrist joints. Also, the wrist is just one aspect of bone structure--some have small wrist joints but big ankles and vice versa, some have thick joints but short clavicles, some have small joints but long clavicles,etc.

    Some people don't have the aptitude... but the desire can override the aptitude... most people that take up dancing don't have the aptitude but they have the desire.. the people that have the aptitude but they don't have the desire! The same holds true for bodybuilding.

    I have always been freakishly huge for no reason for a natural, I average training about 2 days per week for 9 years off and on, yet people think I train constantly, I'm some type of competitor etc. I've come to Lee's realization long ago, some have it, some don't, just try and do the best with what you have and be drug free.

    So true, you see these young 20 year old or so kids on Instagram and facebook thinking their are going to be turning pro and all of their posts are about their diet, their training, inspirational quotes, etc, when they barely place at a local NPC Men's Physique show. Yet they post like 50 pictures from the show acting like they are gods when all of their photos are filtered to oblivion. Makes me sick.

    "genetics" can mean alot of different things . People are good in different areas, e,g, I'm 130kg at 6'1" and have always being pretty strong (especially legs and pulling movements) but I'm also pretty fat. I could take it more seriously and try to shread down but then I would stop enjoying it and would struggle to commit. for me weights will always come second to other things in my life, I just enjoy doing it and admire people like Lee and like watching bodybuilding, strongman and powerlifting; but being pro at these sports is reserved for the top 1% you just have to accept it and train because you love it.

  • @jamiecrouch9069

    Genetics is your ability to produce a high amount of testosterone naturally and how well your respond.
    It's the mental side of it that is hard eating training and sleeping. Managing your stress factors so your not crashing your testosterone levels.

    Lee talks about suspension.Can someone explain what's the thing?

  • @sgt7
    @sgt7 7 лет назад +1

    Lee is right. He's stating the obvious. We have biological limitations whether we like it or not. I for example will never be able to bench 1000 pounds. That's a fact. This "if you can believe it you can achieve it" philosophy is for people who don't have the emotional strength to cope with reality. Anyone who does succeed with that philosophy is someone for whom it was already at least possible for them to succeed. Having said that, hard work will take you very far.

    • @bennythebear0711

      Ogma I get it but there’s something to be said for wanting to achieve something and doing if u are not naturally good at it mj didn’t make his high school team was he suppose to give up

    • @sgt7
      @sgt7 6 лет назад

      I suppose my point is not that you should give up easily. You should always aim to be your best at what you do. And if you want to achieve anything of value than it takes hard work and patience.
      However, we need to begin by picking the right goals. We should chose activities that we enjoy doing and that we are naturally good at. We don't need to be completely gifted but we should be a natural fit for the activities we chose to do.
      If you are bad at something initially that does not mean you should give up. You should give it a chance. However, if it eventually becomes clear that you are useless at what you do then it is wise to consider other activities (especially if you are also beginning to hate what you do).
      I worked as a salesman for about a year. I worked just as hard as everybody else - in fact, I worked harder than most of them. I was terrible at the job. I was even worse than those who had less experience than me. I found however that I was excellent at training new sales staff. I was the best instructor they had. In fact all of the sales people I worked with were terrible instructors!
      I left sales and became a teacher. Everywhere I go I am told that I am the best teacher in the organisation. I also love working as a teacher. Now, if I work hard as a teacher I will progress ten times further than I would if I continued working as a sales person.
      I didn't drop out or give up as a salesman. I made the wise decision to move in a better direction.
      That's how I see it anyway.
