The audio worked properly for years, and then the music artist claimed a copyright. When I tried to fix it, the new music was not applied properly, so I’m trying to produce a new version of this video soon. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope to have this situation resolved soon!
I have been toying with the idea of pbn for about a month. Your channel is the first one I watched and I am thankful I did. Your video is inspiring me! I will watch a few other tips and tricks from you and then I will order my first kit. Thank you!!! You are awesome and I feel as if I have made a new friend Your voice is so soothing and you are so helpful!
You just made my day with your comment! 🥰🥰🥰 People like you are the reason I love to record, share and “teach”. Thank you so much for watching! We would love to have you join our Facebook group. The link is in the description below the video. Lmk if you can’t find it!
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio could you explain what I should be asking for at Michael’s if I wanna put my paint by numbers on a board like you did? The one that I bought is rolled up and comes with wood pieces on the top and bottom( sorry I don’t know what it’s called) to hang but makes it difficult to paint I wanted it to be on something solid so that I could prop it up on my easel!
@tanisgeorgetti7317 you should consider saying exactly what she said to a Michael's rep in the framing department, or showing them that part of the video
No, bruh, she didn’t. Lol! The owner of the original FREE music claimed copyright, and stole all the ad money. I had to replace it, and apparently YT doesn’t know what it means to “place music behind audio”. This video was an 80-hour record and edit, and I haven’t had time to redo it. 😩🤦🏻♀️ This music issue is a new problem that I’m trying to resolve. 🫣
"You do not need an ounce of artistic skill to colour pbn, that is fabulous about it". I love your statement. I am going to start my first ever pbn. Your guide and tips are totally awesome and very beneficial. I only discovered pbn during these lockdown days, and I think is a therapy to me. Thank you so much Mel for every guide and effort you put in this video. Love from Malaysia
Your comment just made my day!! Thank you for joining me from Malaysia...it is amazing to me that we can “socialize” across the world now. I’m thrilled that you found my videos!
Can't thank you enough for this. My paint plot order arrived yesterday. I'm nodding my head as I watch your video. It's so helpful for a beginner like me who hasn't painted since I left school, > 30 years ago 😆 it's meant to be a Zen activity so I'm not aiming for art exhibition. Enjoy your painting Melanie and all the lovely folks here 🥰😍cheers
🥰 So happy to hear you’re starting a PBN! It is just so calming and relaxing to paint. I know you’ll have huge success...even if it has been “a while”. 😉
I am so glad I found you. I am about to start my very first painting ever in my 60 years, yes I’m 60 and just starting this new adventure, well new to me anyway. I sat down this morning and was looking at the 3 paintings I had brought. “Oh dear where or how do I start” then I thought you tube search found you. Ok pick the one with bigger areas ☑️ Thank you so much your video has helped me a lot, now I’m not scared 😱 about this, “I can do this” 😄 Subscribed bing watching today.
Thank you for this excellent beginners video. I’m learning a lot from this video. I’m going to start painting soon. So nervous. Thank you for being so accurate in your teaching.
I wish my art teachers were this open minded (already graduated art school, but the comments teachers made can still demotivate when painting) Thank you for the guide!
I completed 4 years of college in 2010 with two Visual Arts degrees...Graphic Design & Web Design. I learned how to have “thick skin” and accept constructive criticism, but it was hard to hear what I may have overlooked or “done wrong”. I know that composition, balance, symmetry, colors, etc, are all so important in art, but these PBNs have taken that stress off of us, so we should be able to enjoy them to the fullest extent. I’m sure you will agree after your experiences with teachers/professors. I definitely believe in building someone up instead of tearing them down. 😊❤️
For my first ever PBN I ordered beautiful peonies from Pink Picasso, FULL of small sections 😂 When I first saw all the tiny bits I felt a little overwhelmed but now i am loving it so much. So grounding during these stressful pandemic times. Wish I had gotten all these tips before I started but now will have helpful notes for my future projects. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙏🌈💕 happy new year!🎊
I started without these tips too, so you will notice big differences from the first PBN to the next and so on. I literally learn something new every time I paint. I hope you continue to “enjoy the process” ❤️❤️❤️!
This video was excellent! I am a prek teacher and when my district went into shutdown my son and his wife bought me a paint by number painting. I hadn’t done one before. I am done with that painting and now watching videos about the art process. Your videos are very informative. I started with some good habits(thankfully) and did not make many mistakes. Your walkthrough was so helpful. I’ve Gessoed my new painting. Made color swatches and bought new brushes. Thank you so much! Keep up the great videos.
Thank you for your feedback!! Coming from a teacher, that is a huge compliment! I think PBNs have been saving lives during the pandemic and lock-downs. 😂 It has definitely been therapeutic for me and my stresses, so I hope you are loving the process too. I think my Facebook Group members and I may need to include a “12-step plan”. 😂
I thought I was the only one surviving Covid with PBN. I am so glad to have found your RUclips videos. I went right out and bought gesso for a painting I was working on. I was not happy with it at all because it seems the pain is too thin and the coverage is terrible. I painted the canvas with gesso and it has made a world of difference. This is actually my third project and I wish I had seen your videos before.
I’m so happy you found my channel too! I painted my first two or three without clear gesso too. It has been a game-changer! It makes this hobby so much more enjoyable. 💕
I am so glad I found your channel today.I bought a paint by number a while ago and I just could start it because I was so confused..After watching your video I feel enlightened by your tips and tricks and your advices and I am not “afraid “to start and enjoying it.Love your voice too❤️🌺
Thank you so much for that wonderful feedback! ❤️❤️❤️ I have over 150 or so paint by number videos now, so hopefully there will be lots of help for you doing the way! Be sure to join my Facebook group too, because there are a lot of very helpful, kind, supportive people there! facebook.com/groups/melanieb/
Thank you so much for this video! I was so nervous to start on my painting and I felt so stupid. You made me feel like I can do it and calm down. You should be a teacher you explain things so well.
This is wonderful. I struggled on several fronts with my first painting. The lines were giving me such a problem. I also waited two years after I purchased to begin painting. So my paint was very dry. To fix that problem, I put a couple of drops of water in the container, leaving it for 24 hours, then mixed it with a toothpick. This didn’t leave me with clumps. The second one I want to be perfect. It’s for my son. I absolutely loved the tips. It should be so much better after all your wonderful tips!
I never use any water in my paints...unless I’m using diluted Flow-Aid. Typically straight Flow-Aid is all I use, and it makes a huge difference and doesn’t water-down or dilute the paint coverage at all!
Wonderful! I hope you will continue to watch for new videos too. There are always a lot of questions, so I want to keep making new videos to be able to answer them. 😊
Thank you , I have just purchased my first two paintings for PBN. I think I picked two complicated paintings but will try. This video has been very helpful.
Thank you for this video. Good ideas. The paints are acrylic, not oils. That is why you need to use water instead of thinners. You gave me a great idea to leave the number uncovered until I am thru with that section! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I've been doing paint by numbers for over a year. I didn't know about gesso and other things. I've always made a point of framing the canvas on the stretcher bars before I start so that it can more easily be fastened to the easel. I have found that I can't paint with the canvas flat on the table as it hurts my neck back and shoulders. As for the framing kit (D-clips and screws) that comes with the PBN kit, I always wondered where the wire was. I don't consider it to be a hanging kit if there is not wire. I found very early on that the brushes supplied with PBN kits weren't so good and I purchased brushes brushes specially for this purpose. Thank you also for all your tips regarding streaky and also transparent paints as I always wondered what to do with those. In the next few days I will have to buy some gesso. Also your tip about taking a photo of the canvas if there is no reference sheet supplied is something that I never thought of, so thank you for that to. I have found with PBN kits given to me by family members, that they purchased them some months ahead of my birthday and then when I finally get the kit and go to paint that all the paints had dried out and had to go in the bin. Fortunately, I do my own paintings (besides PBN) and I was able to mix up the colours from my own supplies of paint to match and sometimes old kits had plenty of the same colour left over. Again many thanks from Newcastle, Australia.
This was so enlightening and calming. Thank you so much! I think after watching some more of your tip videos I'll be ready to attempt a birthday painting with more confidence. You definitely removed some of my anxiety going into this, thanks!!!
🥰 thank you! I know you’ll do great! You may want to watch the Tips & Tricks video too, because there is a lot of information about clear gesso, Flow-Aid, etc. ruclips.net/video/bXqL1fiieQ4/видео.html Be sure to join the Facebook group and share your progress! 😊 facebook.com/groups/melanieb/
So, I just bought 6 paintings from Masterpiece PBN, and seeing your video makes me think I dont know as much as I thought I did! Haha! So glad I saw this! Thanks for all the kind advice!
I love the company paint plot. Their paintings are so amazing I just recently discovered a website call miicreative they customize your photos to what ever you want. I'm still waiting on mine to come in and will definitely be using these tips for that painting. I think the issue I have is I try way to hard to be extremely precise with my painting.
I did that too at first, and then I realized no one noticed tiny imperfections but me. Once I relaxed, Ive enjoyed it more & I think my paintings look way better. I’m an extreme perfectionist, but it’s been so much more enjoyable to just let it go & “enjoy the process”.
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio yeah I'm definitely gonna try using the gesso for the canvas this time cause everytime I do paint it sinks into the canvas it looks very streaky and uneven. But I have a question if I go and have my painting stretched do I do that before or after the painting is finished?
Now it makes sense. I have watched this before but in all my paintings have never done it. But I will with my new one this weekend. I like the idea that you can see the color as a reference as well.
I just bought my first kit and I’m so glad I watched this before starting it because you covered so many things that I would’ve never thought of. Thank you for doing this video to help us newbies out. Now I’m off to watch your tips and tricks video 😀
Super Super helpful! The tips on the techniques are invaluable. I received my first kit from my husband for Christmas. I feel more comfortable about starting now. I understand about straightening the canvas but the next VERY beginning step is putting the canvas on some type of surface. This video very briefly mentioned “dry mounting “? It sounds like I should go to Michael’s to have that done. Also no mention of an easel but I think I’m going to need a tabletop easel because I am nearsighted and will need to work very close up. Totally newbie - suggestions welcome! from Canada
Hi!! I’m about to do a new updated version of this video for 2022, since this one is from 2020. I have some more information on dry mounting that you may want to look into on my channel. Search for “dry mount pbn” or “Melanie B” and you’ll find tons of information and my videos. Be sure to join the Facebook group too, because there is lots of information and my members are FABULOUS people who love to help. I’m also on there daily. The link is in the bottom of the description (YT won’t let me share it here), or you can search FB for Melanie B’s Creative Studio. ☺️
Wonderful! I also have many more current videos that may help too. I recently updated the information about the using a white paint under all colors to a different method, which is a lifesaver…here is a video on that…ruclips.net/video/BifCr1PLfs4/видео.html Thank you watching my video and for your positive feedback! 🥰
Melanie...loved the beginning of this video as I am a complete novice to this art. Can you tell me though why is it that there is music playing about 3/4 of the clip and no voice! I am beginning to think there is maybe something wrong with my computer as everyone else here has not mentioned this!
I actually pinned a comment at the very beginning under the video to explain what happened to the audio. That is something that just recently took place after the original music had a copyright claim. Basically it destroyed my entire video. 🥹 Now I’m trying to find time to totally re-record this video and revamp it with more current information. I’m so sorry that half of this video is no longer informative, but if you will join my Facebook group at Melanie B’s Creative Studio, I have the most amazing, supportive members who can answer every question you will ever have about paint by number or diamond painting…{and lots of other hobbies too}.
Oh, I’m excited for you to paint with me! Be sure to join the Facebook group, where there are really great members, and you can share your progress and ask questions.
Thank you for your page. They are a great help. I have a different question. PBN was suggested to me for exercise. Arthritis has limited the use of my hands. I began with acrylic pens. They are bigger barrel and I can hold them. Is there list of paintings with bigger spaces (you mentioned them).
I don’t have a list, because every company has paintings that will have larger openings. Most of them will be considered “children paintings”, but mostly because of the fact that kids struggle with the motor skills to do the smaller openings. What you want to look for are paintings with open or block spaces..almost color-blocked. I wish I could share photos here to explain that better. If you aren’t on my Facebook group, it would be a great place to join. I have almost 4000 wonderful, super helpful members who can share thoughts and suggestions along with me. The link is in the description of the video, but I’ll try to share it here although you’ll have to manually type it in. If you go to Facebook and search for Melanie B’s Creative Studio in groups, it should pop up. facebook. com /groups /melanieb
This is a perfect tutorial! I just got a paint by numbers Canva for my birthday and I was looking for someone who teaches paint it that good and you are the one! Thanks a lot for this video! ❤️
It took my forever to figure out what worked for me, and that is why I wanted to share that info. I don’t want someone else taking 6 months and $$$ to figure out what works. Soooo happy you found me!
This is great! Thanks for sharing this. I’m about to start my first one and I’ve made notes to use all your pointers. Even just watching your video was so nice and relaxing!
Oh, thank you so much!! 🥰 I’m thrilled to know you have learned some things from my videos too. ❤️ I hope I’m able to continue to bring you informative, relaxing videos ☺️.
I've been doing PBN most of my life, but I've recently been buying from different companies, so these tips will be very beneficial in ensuring the quality of all of my future paintings (even if I only have their base items to work with). Thank you so much for all of this!!!!
This is absolutely the BEST paint by number tutorial I've seen! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us "newbies". I am super excited about getting started and this has built my confidence.
You crack me up!! I’m new to canvas not new to Paint by numbers Definitely interested in how you blend the paints on a Paint by number Your so right if a Hobby stresses you! You need to quit immediately!! ♥️🤗😂 Sheila PA I’ve taken all your tips and tricks and they are on their way from Amazon I had to get on Scratch Art to start while I wait on my stuff!! I’ve got to learn how to stretch the canvas???
probably a good idea to take a couple of photos of the copy .sometimes the numbers are very difficult to identify and if you take a couple of photos you can then blow them up on your phone and easily identify vatrious areas.but this is a great video
Yes! I’m not even sure if I put that in this video, because I had so much information… But that’s exactly what I do. I take photos of the canvas in quadrants. I make sure that the photos are very clear, so that when I zoom in on them, all of the numbers are visible. It’s probably one of the most important tips I give people. This works when you don’t have a reference guide, but it also works for when you have tiny numbers that you can’t see well, and you need to magnify them but don’t have a magnifier. Thank you for watching even though the audio was taken over in this video! I’ve been planning my new tips and tricks video for 2024 to come up soon. It will have a lot of updated information that may be helpful for beginners and more advanced enthusiasts.
Thank you so much for this. I ordered a few paint by number kits and then watched other videos and thought "I don't want to buy all that other stuff now in case I hate this", lol. Then I put off starting one of my paintings and actually ordered some gesso and brushes but they haven't come in yet. I feel like starting one of my kits today, so now I can, lol.
I’ve had about 170 videos since this one. If you can tell me what exactly your next step is, I can direct you to a video that will help. When you are painting, always take each color up to and slightly over the line. Then when you do the adjacent color, you do the same. When acrylic paint dries it “shrinks” slightly, so it will move away from the edge a little if you avoid the line. That’s why you should take your paint up and over it slightly. I have some videos that demonstrate close up paintings, like “paint with me” type things, if you think that will help.
Thank you So Much for sharing the tips😍. I bought two beautiful flowers canvases and cannot wait to paint. Should I frame it first and put it on the stand to paint or lay it on a table and paint?
I do and tell people to do what is comfortable for you. I have 6 or so mounting videos. I am not an “easel girl” myself, so I like to mount my canvas on a board or tape mount it (if it doesn’t come stretched on a frame) and hold it on my lap if I’m painting in front of the TV. I also have a workstation in my studio for when I’m “in my happy place”. I’ll post those links for you: Tape Mounting: ruclips.net/video/JeZRf8xxlN0/видео.html DIY DRY MOUNTING 2 ruclips.net/video/rZwxdSyC7Go/видео.html DIY DRY MOUNTING 1 ruclips.net/video/06B-XT5Ibc8/видео.html STRETCHING YOUR PBN ruclips.net/video/e5zyQpL7-Fk/видео.html MELANIE B’s STUDIO TOUR ruclips.net/video/X1lrHCy0kzg/видео.html
I was originally a diamond painter (still am!), and so this seemed to just be exactly what was up my alley. I alternate back and forth between diamond painting and paint by numbers. Warning though...they’re both equally addictive! 😂
Thank you for this video and the clear explanations. I watched a couple of months ago and ordered a kit. It’s not here yet. But I found a company in the U.K. where I live, called Victoria Moon, and their kit arrived today. So I watched this again and took notes. One big question: Do the kits normally give you enough paint? And what do you do if you run out of one or more colors of paint? Thank you.
I haven’t run out of paint yet. When I use Flow-Aid and gesso, it seems to stretch the paint even further, since I’m not having to go over the same places over and over again. If I run out, I have the Arteza paint set I showed in this video ruclips.net/video/n8OuJCeN4Jw/видео.html.
Incredible information and so well explained! You’re very inspiring- I’m about to get out my painting and start with no fears, due to this video. TFS👍🏾😎!
Usually I don't watch long vedio.. but this was really addictive.. I watched till the end then I looked for more .. I ordered my first paint by number and waiting to it to get shipped to my country.. I really can't wait
That’s fabulous! I hate long videos too, but there was just so much to share. I’m glad you watched it...thank you so much! I hope you love your first painting as much as I did mine. 😊
I also have a “Basics” video that help those who have never painted at all. It may have some helpful tips too! 😊 ruclips.net/video/YAbCPklnsT0/видео.html
I told you that you would nail it! You rock! Thanks so much, this was just what I was looking for. All the tips will be so helpful for a newbie like me!
Awesome tips! My first pbn arrived today and I can't wait to start it. If I have to do a second coat, do I have to wait until the paint completely dries or can I do it when the paint is still wet?
You will want to wait until the paint dries, because sometimes it will look different when it is dry, and it is easier to tell what it needs. Also, acrylic paint dries super fast, so by the time you finish a section, you can usually go back over where you painted.
Thanks getting ready to order my first paint by numbers. I'll now watch 'tips and tricks". I noticed you work over your canvas as you're making the paints. Want if you spilled on the canvas. Maybe your address this in the next video. Does it wipe right off?
I only do that for the videos so my viewers can see, but to be honest, the paints are so thick that they don’t spill (except Schipper paints). If they do spill, you wipe it up with a damp cloth. If there is a stain, it will just get covered up with the paint when you use the correct color there. Thankfully there is an easy solution to every problem with PBNs. 😊
And I meant to say that I have over 150 PBN videos now, and I’ve definitely mentioned why I am working over the canvas in many of those. You will probably hear it often if you continue to watch my videos...which I hope you so will! 😊
Hi Melanie this video is one of the most helpful videos I’ve have seen so far I have a couple of questions, what sharpie paint pen do u use ? And when u painted over the no 15 areas that u coloured in white first I noticed on my one I did and I tried this with a different brand of paint pen that when I tried painting on top my paint didn’t cover the white paint pen ? Is that coz of the brand I used ? or is it generally like that with every paint pen ? I also noticed when u did yours on the white that it looked a bit like how mine went so wasn’t sure if that’s always the case ?
The most important thing about the paint pen is making sure it is a “Water-Based” and not an “Oil-Based” paint. The oil ones repel the acrylic paint, and it’s impossible to paint over without being noticeable. You can also use a white acrylic paint and a paint brush. Some people suggest a white pencil, but the only white pencil I’ve tried is a white charcoal pencil, and it didn’t work well. They may be referring to a white pencil as in a colored pencil. I haven’t tested that yet. Another option is white gesso...you just use it to paint the section first. You don’t ever want to cover your entire canvas with it. I hope this information helps you with some alternatives!
Hi Shayy just wondering what u were talking about what u were saying about the caves what u put on it before u start to paint please because I wasn’t sure what u were talking about so hopefully u will get to see this and let me know thanks xx
You make it seem so easy. What brush # would you suggest to start with? My husband keep telling me you should start here & I told him its my painting. lol Just as you mentioned everyone has an opinion.
Fran Smith husbands!! Can’t live with ‘em, can’t smack ‘em! 😂 If you have to get one brush to start or set of brushes, I have two new sets coming in tomorrow that are very affordable. This set is only $10.99, and they have 5 sizes you will need most. amzn.to/2CpQinL You can use the larger ones for larger openings and the 10/0 and smaller ones for those tiny spaces. Just be sure to clean with cosmetic wipes, and that should keep them looking new and staying unfrayed.
I've been finishing up my cross stitch project before starting my paint by number... I enjoyed this tutorial bc it was helpful... I cannot wait to see ur video about blending... I want my piece to look the best I can do...💕💕💋
Your videos are so helpful. I am hooked. I purchased two PBN as a family project for father's day. I have swatched the pots as you suggested and I realize that 1/3 of colors are opaque but unfortunately, the majority of pot colors are translucent. It looks like I will be using my sharpie and painting a lot of white. Is there another way to address this issue. Also, is this indicative of poor quality paint. The kit is from Newsight. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
Hi! Unfortunately most paints aren’t high-end in our PBN kits. It has to do with the lack of pigment...the more pigment, the more high-quality (aka high priced) the paint is going to be. Usually the more white a color has, the more opaque it is. The more yellow it has, the more translucent it is. Warms are usually difficult too, so that covers about 2/3 of paint colors. 🤦♀️ I have been replacing my “junk” paints with ones from an Arteza set of 60. This set was only $40, and it has nice paints! Here is the video where I demonstrate how I replace my paint pots. ruclips.net/video/n8OuJCeN4Jw/видео.html I hope this helps you. Those darn translucent paints are such a pain in the booty!
This video was great, I can honestly say that I was 6 years old when I started paint by numbers. Way back then the paint by numbers were oil based paints, and if you left them open you could put a drop or two of linseed oil, and they were ready to go, however it took day to dry, and 9 times out of 10 I put a finger in the already painted area. Lol, I loved what you had to say. What made you start your RUclips channel? Do you find it a hard thing to do? Thanks, DeeDee
Hi! I started the channel, because I had to leave my much-loved management framing job due to health issues. All of a sudden I was sitting at home with PTSD and an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder that made me feel worthless, to be honest. I have always loved sharing hobbies and teaching arts and crafts in local stores in the past, so since I was physically stuck at home, I decided I would try to share my passions for hobbies through RUclips. (I used to do LipSense and makeup videos, so I already knew how to record and do some editing). That’s how it started, and thankfully my husband encouraged and supported it. He knew emotionally it was a good outlet for me, since I had been told in past that I needed to try to continue to stay active in hobbies since my son was killed. I am blessed to have his support, since I would not have even tried otherwise. As far as getting started, I already had 1000 subscribers from my previous LipSense business when I converted it to the Creative Studio. The idea has never been to make money at it (thank goodness, because hobby/niche channels don’t make any profit for years if ever 😜), but my passion for sharing the tips and tricks I’ve learned brings me joy. Knowing I’ve helped other people find “zen therapy” in their own lives (especially during the pandemic) has been especially rewarding. If you’re planning to start your own channel, do it because you want to share your knowledge. I had to decide if I got 10 people to watch my videos, I’d be happy. Every 10 subscribers made me thrilled. Then it was every 50…then 100. I still get excited to see new subscribers, because someone thinks what I have to say is interesting or important enough to spend their valuable time on. That’s a pretty amazing feeling! This was probably more than you expected to know…I’m always full of TMI! Good luck on your journey!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have ordered a PBN and needed to see all this information you provide. I am wondering what do you do with the border of the painting where you have put the color chart? Do you cover it with a frame or paint white over it?
Thank you! I really like the idea of swatching right on the edge of the canvas (but I will gesso mine, first) so that you can see what the colors look like (and determine the transparency) - this was a very helpful video all around!
I actually designed a swatch guide you can do your swatches on to use as a reference. That way if you stretch your canvas, you don’t have to worry about the swatches being seen. Let me know what you think of this: ruclips.net/video/q3Se1n3ObiM/видео.html
Hi! I use a water-based Sharpie. It’s very important that you make sure it is a water-based paint pen and not an oil-based paint pen. Oil will repel the acrylic paint, whereas the water-based paint will will accept it. I can tell you that since I filmed this particular video, I have discovered a brand called Artistro, and they are affordable and sometimes easier to find than the sharpies. I will add a link in the description for those, as well. ☺️
@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Thank you!! I couldn't find the sharpie on Amazon. However, I was able to find another brand that was acrylic water-based. I'm not sure the brand but I'm ordering everything I need and just waiting for my canvas!! Do you varnish your painting after it's done?
I’m so sorry about the audio. 🥹 It is heartbreaking that this video got so screwed up after all of that information and work. 😣 The white paint covers the numbers when the paint you receive in your kit is transparent or translucent and will not cover well. Since the time I recorded this video I have learned about and developed a new system called “The 3 Shades of Gray” that is a game-changer for transparent and translucent paints…which are unavoidable {unfortunately}. Here is what that is all about: ruclips.net/video/BifCr1PLfs4/видео.htmlsi=VF6ZhraAmP3dseD5 Here is a little video about my new “3 Shades of Gray Road Trip Collection”, which is currently sold out, because they are all handmade. If you go my online store, and put it your email in on that product page, you will be notified when they are available. I only add 10 at a time, because it takes so long to make them, and they sell out within 30 minutes. This kit comes with my handmade opaque white paint, too. It’s very versatile and everyone LOVES how it helps with those pesky transparent and translucent paints! ruclips.net/video/lS-bQYIyr5Q/видео.htmlsi=Vh0ay7jL3e14ld7_
Thank you! I have a lot of new information since this video back almost a year and a half ago, so be sure to watch some of those. I’d love to be able to help you on my Facebook group too. facebook.com/groups/melanieb/
That would be a great tool! I have a magnifying headlamp that I use now. It’s amazing how many tools I’ve discovered in the past year since this video.
Hello Melanie- I am about to enter the rabbit hole of paint by numbers!! I'm a teacher who really needs a distraction!! Any suggestions on best place to BUY the kits? I was hoping for one made in the USA if possible so I could get it sooner. I'll be watching in the meantime!
Kim Duhamel Masterpiece by Numbers is the only company I know of that sells in the US. Swoozies did have Pink Picasso PBNs which are nice, but they sold out. The only other place I can tell you is PinkPicassoKits.com, but they are pricey and don’t offer coupons very often. Masterpiece by Numbers has buy 2 get 1 free, so that’s a good deal.
You can do it before or after…whichever you prefer. I tend to do it after, and that way I’m not putting weight on the center of the canvas while I’m painting. 😊
Thank you so much for this!!! i just got my first paint by number kit and I wanted to see a video with tips and your video helped me a lot and I am so excited for my kit to arrive!! you deserve a sub
I made my paint swatch on a separate piece of paper. That way I can slide it up to an area I may want to touch up to make sure I use the right number. I use pencil to determine opaque or transparent. Another tip to try.
I do it on whatever is available. When I have a pre-stretched “framed” piece, I test my paints directly on the painting in the numbers. When I have the Victoria’s Moon paintings with the color photo strip, I do it there. You can use whatever method works for you...I just like to know in advance what paints will need extra time. 😊
Yes, this is helpful, so thank you. I’m worried I picked a first P.B.N. That is too difficult (even though I’m detail oriented ). That said, the one I chose is spectacular! So I just don’t know.
I wish I'd found this before I did my first one. Some of the numbers were really hard to cover up and I never thought about using a sharpie or Gesso, but I'll know next time.
Hello! I'm a hobby colorist, and had a question for some future Paint By Number Kits I want to purchase. If by chance I do not want to use the paint that comes with the picture, do you think I could use gouache or my own acrylics? (Prefer gouache) I would have to match the colors up, but I was wondering if you see that being possible? Currently a third of the way through this video, and have watched your trustworthy shops vid!
Sending love and thanks from Pakistan! This is really informative, I am not an arts student and I just got my first PBN painting. I have been delaying starting on it because I couldn't decide where to even begin. I have a question and I am sorry it's a bit stupid: the paint swatch you did on the side, won't it be visible when you get the painting framed?
It wouldn’t be visible after framing, but I actually designed a digital swatch guide that is perfect for swatching paints. This is a digital, downloadable file, and you can use it over and over. Here is the link in case you want to check it out: www.melaniegilstrap.com/pbn
This is a very informative video. Thank you so much. Unfortunately, after about ten minutes, there was just a musical backing track, not your voice.
The audio worked properly for years, and then the music artist claimed a copyright. When I tried to fix it, the new music was not applied properly, so I’m trying to produce a new version of this video soon. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope to have this situation resolved soon!
The taking a picture of the painting prior to painting, omg this saved me on my 2nd paint by numbers piece. Thanks
It’s the simple things, right??
I have been toying with the idea of pbn for about a month. Your channel is the first one I watched and I am thankful I did. Your video is inspiring me! I will watch a few other tips and tricks from you and then I will order my first kit. Thank you!!! You are awesome and I feel as if I have made a new friend Your voice is so soothing and you are so helpful!
You just made my day with your comment! 🥰🥰🥰 People like you are the reason I love to record, share and “teach”. Thank you so much for watching! We would love to have you join our Facebook group. The link is in the description below the video. Lmk if you can’t find it!
this was so informative! Im waiting for my order to come in but this is giving me such great tips for painting!
I love to hear that! Thank you so much 😊!!
Bruh did she forget to take off the music after the swatch
Taking a picture before for a reference of the numbers!! GREAT IDEA!! Thanks!!
I just bought my first two pbns yesterday. Came looking for tips and tricks. Looks like I found the right channel!
You just made my day! ❤️
I am done
with that painting and now watching videos about the art process.
Thank you so much! That is what I love to hear from viewers. Just relax and “enjoy the process” ☺️....
Typically straight Flow-Aid is all I use, and it makes a huge difference and doesn’t water-down or dilute the paint coverage at all!
this was super helpful! Ive ordered two that aren't here yet but have saved this video for reference, thank you so much for explaining so clearly
Thank you!
I’m so happy I’m using your info before I start my painting. Very helpful!
Jeneen Rothstein I am so happy to hear that! 🥰🥰🥰
Just ordered my first one! Thanks for all the detailed advice!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for the great tips! Have my first set but haven’t started it yet
I’m so happy I found this video because I just got a set for the first time and I’m so glad I won’t mess it up now because of you. You’re a lifesaver
🥰 thank you! I know you’ll do great! You may want to watch the Tips & Tricks video too, because there is a lot of information about clear gesso, Flow-Aid, etc. ruclips.net/video/bXqL1fiieQ4/видео.html

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I got a custom paint by number for my birthday and I was so afraid to screw it up but now I’m super excited!❤️
You can’t screw it up, I promise! I have 140 paint by number videos, so hopefully I’ll have an answer to every question you may have along the way. 😊
I just bought my first kit and I’m so glad I watched this before starting it because you covered so many things that I would’ve never thought of. Thank you for doing this video to help us newbies out. Now I’m off to watch your tips and tricks video 😀
You are so welcome! I tried to cover things that I wish I had known when I started! 🥰
Yes I agree!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’m more confident, comfortable and prepared to start my new PBN!
Wonderful! I also have many more current videos that may help too. I recently updated the information about the using a white paint under all colors to a different method, which is a lifesaver…here is a video on that…ruclips.net/video/BifCr1PLfs4/видео.html
Thank you watching my video and for your positive feedback!
Now I’m trying to find time to totally re-record this video and revamp it with more current information. I’m so sorry that half of this video is no longer informative, but if you will join my Facebook group at Melanie B’s Creative Studio, I have the most amazing, supportive members who can answer every question you will ever have about paint by number or diamond painting…{and lots of other hobbies too}.
Thank you so much for explaining. I never took notice at the start.....my apologies!@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio
This is very helpful! I just purchased my very first paint by number kit! Will apply what I learned from you, thank you so much!!

This is a perfect tutorial! I just got a paint by numbers Canva for my birthday and I was looking for someone who teaches paint it that good and you are the one! Thanks a lot for this video! ❤️
Thank you for making this!! I just bought my first pbn and would never have known to do some of these tips you suggested! ❤
It took my forever to figure out what worked for me, and that is why I wanted to share that info. I don’t want someone else taking 6 months and $$$ to figure out what works. Soooo happy you found me!
I just received my first PBN by Dimensions . Your advice on how to start was invaluable. Thanks !
Thanks for sharing,it’s very helpful for me to learn these such great tips and techniques to do painting by numbers 😊
Great information. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so happy to hear from someone with so much experience that my videos can help them! 🥰🥰🥰
♥️🤗😂 Sheila
PA I’ve taken all your tips and tricks and they are on their way from Amazon I had to get on Scratch Art to start while I wait on my stuff!! I’ve got to learn how to stretch the canvas???
I have two videos on canvas stretching...do you need those links?
And I also have a few blending videos. Maybe you should just subscribe to be sure you don’t miss of my videos 😉. 😂
Thanks for sharing this video.
This is great! I can't wait to get started and feel so much better equipped now after all these tips - thank you :)
Cristy Mazarredo I love to hear that kind of feedback! 🥰
probably a good idea to take a couple of photos of the copy .sometimes the numbers are very difficult to identify and if you take a couple of photos you can then blow them up on your phone and easily identify vatrious areas.but this is a great video
Fantastic,,! I love these instructions. Thank you so very much!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!
Binge watching your videos while waiting for my paint by numbers to arrive
You will be TOTALLY prepared when they come in!! 🥰🥰🥰
Celebrate draw a straight line with a ruler but I can do this! What a way to destress my worries away!
You got it!
Love this video.. What is the follow up from this please? Eager to see how I am suppose to paint the adjacent color
I’ll post those links for you:

You’re welcome! Since recording this video, I have 125+ more for paint by numbers. I hope I have the answer to every question on my channel. 😊
So helpful as a newbie having received my first paint-by-numbers kit. Thank you!
Wonderful!! Thank you for that amazing feedback 🥰🥰🥰!
your guide and tips are totally awesome and very beautiful
Thank you so much! ☺️
This is so helpful. I am considering trying one of these since I love diamond painting so much. Thank you for tips!
I was originally a diamond painter (still am!), and so this seemed to just be exactly what was up my alley. I alternate back and forth between diamond painting and paint by numbers. Warning though...they’re both equally addictive! 😂
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio lol thanks for the warning! I have a feeling I'll never get anything else done again! 🤣
Nice tips. Thank you
Thanks a lot for the tips, Melanie! 🙏 I will be starting more "complicated" paintings, these tips help me a lot..
What a wonderful video for beginners like myself. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching...I really hope you found valuable information. ❤️
Thank you for this video and the clear explanations. I watched a couple of months ago and ordered a kit. It’s not here yet. But I found a company in the U.K. where I live, called Victoria Moon, and their kit arrived today. So I watched this again and took notes. One big question:
Do the kits normally give you enough paint? And what do you do if you run out of one or more colors of paint?
Thank you.
I haven’t run out of paint yet. When I use Flow-Aid and gesso, it seems to stretch the paint even further, since I’m not having to go over the same places over and over again. If I run out, I have the Arteza paint set I showed in this video ruclips.net/video/n8OuJCeN4Jw/видео.html.
Thank you so much! I'm a total newbie, and your video had so much great information for the beginner.
Thank you for letting me know!! I’m trying to think ahead now of what information others may need, so I can keep bringing you more videos 😬!
Thanks so much for the video. I've never painted before... very helpful.
So happy to know this could help!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! Just about to start my first painting. ☺️☺️☺️
Oh, I know you’ll love it!
Eep!My grandma is buying me that online! For me and my brother to use.Good thing I found this video!
Oh, that’s great!! I hope you love painting!
So cool. Was planning to get one & your tips helps. Tks
Happy you've done these lessons! Thanks bunches!!
You are so welcome! Keep watching, because I hope to bring lots more to you!
Just got mine out of the mail soooooo excited
Ohhhh, I’m excited for you!! Be sure to join my Facebook group!! facebook.com/groups/melanieb/
I think you already did join the group, didn’t you?
Thank u so much
Hi Shayy just wondering what u were talking about what u were saying about the caves what u put on it before u start to paint please because I wasn’t sure what u were talking about so hopefully u will get to see this and let me know thanks xx
This set is only $10.99, and they have 5 sizes you will need most. amzn.to/2CpQinL
You can use the larger ones for larger openings and the 10/0 and smaller ones for those tiny spaces. Just be sure to clean with cosmetic wipes, and that should keep them looking new and staying unfrayed.
I've been finishing up my cross stitch project before starting my paint by number... I enjoyed this tutorial bc it was helpful... I cannot wait to see ur video about blending... I want my piece to look the best I can do...💕💕💋
I’m working on one for blending this week!
I have been replacing my “junk” paints with ones from an Arteza set of 60. This set was only $40, and it has nice paints! Here is the video where I demonstrate how I replace my paint pots. ruclips.net/video/n8OuJCeN4Jw/видео.html
I hope this helps you. Those darn translucent paints are such a pain in the booty!
You are a good teacher! 🎨
Thank you!! I love what I do! ❤️
Thanks alot for your interesting information 👍
What kind of marker are you using for transparent colors to cover the numbers?
@MelanieBsCreativeStudio
Thank you!! I couldn't find the sharpie on Amazon. However, I was able to find another brand that was acrylic water-based. I'm not sure the brand but I'm ordering everything I need and just waiting for my canvas!! Do you varnish your painting after it's done?
Amazing video. Too bad about the audio. Most was straight-forward but what was the purpose of applying the white paint? Thanks.
I’m so sorry about the audio. 🥹 It is heartbreaking that this video got so screwed up after all of that information and work. 😣
The white paint covers the numbers when the paint you receive in your kit is transparent or translucent and will not cover well. Since the time I recorded this video I have learned about and developed a new system called “The 3 Shades of Gray” that is a game-changer for transparent and translucent paints…which are unavoidable {unfortunately}. Here is what that is all about:

Here is a little video about my new “3 Shades of Gray Road Trip Collection”, which is currently sold out, because they are all handmade.

Thanks for the tips! These are so helpful for me as a beginner. Keep up!
Thank you! I have a lot of new information since this video back almost a year and a half ago, so be sure to watch some of those. I’d love to be able to help you on my Facebook group too. facebook.com/groups/melanieb/
I have really enjoyed your videos. Well done!
Thank you!!
I use a light up magnifying glass. Works great!
Is it best to paint the canvas flat first or is it okay to stretch first on the frame and then paint.?
You can do it before or after…whichever you prefer. I tend to do it after, and that way I’m not putting weight on the center of the canvas while I’m painting. 😊
Thank you so much for this!!! i just got my first paint by number kit and I wanted to see a video with tips and your video helped me a lot and I am so excited for my kit to arrive!! you deserve a sub
Thank you so much!! I’m trying to record more than ever right now, so I hope I’m able to keep you watching for more ideas, tips and tricks! 🥰
Thanks for the reply! keep up the good work
I made my paint swatch on a separate piece of paper.
I think you should focus on one cell at a time and take your time. If you love the design, the painting will be enjoyable! 😊
Very informative.
Thank you! I hope to come out with a new updated version soon!
I wish I'd found this before I did my first one. Some of the numbers were really hard to cover up and I never thought about using a sharpie or Gesso, but I'll know next time.
That clear gesso to prime your canvas is priceless. It has made my paintings look sooo much better.
You are wonderful! Thank you so much for your tips! I actually have the confidence to try now.
OH, thank you!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I want everyone to feel successful with this fabulous, “zen therapy” hobby!
Hi Melanie,
Which Liquitex heavy body white paint should I get? I purchased the white water based sharpie.
You absolutely can use gouache or acrylic. I have mixed them both to get the best of both worlds (although I’ve yet to do a video on that subject 😉.)
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Thank you! I will check it out ^-^
