I am just beginning my very first paint by numbers kit. I'm really glad I found your video before getting too far into it, as your tips are going to help a lot. Thank you~
So you start at the right and move across to the left? Is that backwards? Wouldn’t you smudge it as you move to the left? If you’re intention is to move vertically, the same issue might occur as well.
Laura, This video helped so much. Although I'm over 60, I have wanted to paint since high school. This video gave me the confidence to start my first picture. Thank you.
You naughty girl painting Outside the lines!!. love the accent, done 13 Paint by, best one was the Houses of parliament in london, put a big yellow sun in the sky then put yellow reflections in windows.
Thank you!! My son bought me my first paint by number and I’m about to start!! Loved your presentation! Fingers crossed my turns out as good as yours!!
my first ever paint set will be delivered in a day or two and i am so excited to paint by numbers. it’s said that it would turn out like its been painted by a pro! lol im just so excited. cant wait for my first ever canvas paintinggg
I have not tried or starded on my painting and your tips are very helpful for beginners.Thank you for sharing,l'll surely apply your tips when I paint.God bless
Hi, Laura. Thank you for your videos. You reminded me to make sure the canvas is crease free! I was so excited to start, I'm so glad I came across your video. I'm gonna gently iron mine first before starting! Thank you and I hope you'll continue to share your works. Have a good day!
Its so exciting painting by numbers.,it's my stress reliever., i've alrdy finish 8 canvasses thanks for your tips., but for me i 've always start from bottom to top and pull up the background color at the end., but before start i took picture first of the design for reference incase that I miss some areas and forget what color number it is.😂
i have just experimented using a long match cut to a point for the very small spaces .hold it between thumb and finger and dip it into the paint , enough to get a blob of paint just on the end and if the space is large enough place the blob of paint in the centre and spread it using the match turning the match as you get a build up of paint on the side of the match not in contact with the canvas ,.i found this gave me excellent control when spreading the paint and a very textured finish and better detail.
Thank you! I just started my first paint by numbers and I enjoyed your tips. I have a question, do you dip your brush in water before dipping it in paint ever? It looks like you don't in this video but I just wanted to know.
Hopefully they change this with the next models (if they continue it). Was really hoping this would be a good on-the-go tablet but yeah. Good thing I waited for your review. ❤
@@laurasstudio Do you have any Great tips how to put the Paint 🎨 on your brushes so you don't over do the amount of Paint. So the design picture looks good.
So cool you did this video. Thank for these great tips. I think they will be very helpful as I start my first painting. Great job on your painting by the way.
Make a wet pallet out of a plastic container paper towel and parchment paper, place parchment ontop of few layers of paper towel and wet slightly use the surface of the parchment to thin out and mix your paint real good this makes the world's difference and stops your acrylic paint from drying can even store leftover paint over night...
That was brilliant. I received my first paint by numbers kit today so this was invaluable!!!! Thanks so much these tips were exactly what I was looking for 👍
ah i shoulve come here before i started and i did the creases thing lol, i knew it would be a learning curve so i got two at once but we'll see how the first one unfolds 😂
I bought a painting kit and I just realized that some little spots don’t have numbers on them. Even the reference sheet. Idk what color to even paint it
Hello. I've noticed same spots and was confused first but then I realised that those belong to second neighbour arreas. I mean, just look over one neighbour color. Sorry for my english.
Do we have to use a pallet and mix colour with water before painting or directly just use the paint?..is the amount of paint given sufficient for the whole canvas without adding water??...I have my first kit but haven’t started yet..coz I’m scared
Hi! First, don't be scared. Enjoy the process and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Those mistakes will make your painting unique. The paint should be enough for the whole canvas. Try the painting just as it is. Is it hard to move around on the canvas? Try adding a drop of water if it improves. I hope that helps?
Thanks for the tips. I was looking for someone talking about creases in the canvas. I really wanna get started, but I don’t have an iron so I gotta figure that one out I guess
I do a lot of paint by numbers with acrylic paint, so I thought I would answer your question. I'm one of those people who picks a number and then goes around the entire canvas filling them in. I use Flo Aid in my paint to make it smoother and more opaque. I find that it usually takes about 10 min from the time I first apply the paint for it to dry fully. I do find that most paints look better with two coats. I wait until it's dry to apply a second coat. Hope that helps 😁
Great advice been given already. Thank you. In my experience it doesn't take long indeed for it to dry. I have never timed it but a few minutes I think
Great advice! I was also told that with some of the lighter colors, (ex. White, Yellow, etc.,) that you should use an acrylic White Paint Pen and just dab the numbers. It was cheap so I may try that in those areas. I will probably put two coats as well.
Just received my first DIY acrylic paint & really like your tips (especially to go over the lines) so it looks more realistic & mine came w no reference photo so taking one right now as I can see myself thinking what color goes here 🤔😬😱 lol!! Tyvm
I hadn’t but had only painted a few of the first number & paint was thicker (way more, than my usual watercolors 😳) & was trying to find ways to even get my brush to be wet enough to go 1/14th inch oh my)! So saw your video & how you did first one (as this is my first one) & saw what a difference w just a few changes you made the second one just look so much nicer & not like a DIY & knew found a kindred spirit!! My main question is how (know it will take experimentation) how much “gum arabic” you did add (and water you kept saying) to make paint still a matte finish but flow a bit more like watercolor is what I feel must learn as these “additive” things I don’t always know if potentially toxic?? Ty very much!! Also if adding too much water then found out color can change & that can be good too.
What do you do with the paint left when painting is finished, it seems wasteful to throw it away as some are full to top of pot but only a little is used and as different paint by number suppliers use different number paints they cant be used on other paintings
Hi Laura this is a great video! Do you mind if we share it with our customers? We sell custom paint by number sets so people can upload their favourite photo and we convert it into a painting set.
Hi Laura, just got my first kit and found this video. You mentioned ironing the canvas to remove the creases, do you have to do anything special for canvas or can you do it like clothing? Also is there any other way of smoothing it or do you have to use the iron? Thanks in advance!
I had the very same question. I hope she answers because I’m doing it right now. What I’ve tried is ironing it with a steam-free iron on medium heat and just kept the iron moving. (I also turned the canvas, still face down, in the opposite direction as well and ironed it that way too.) It didn’t seem to take the wrinkles out completely. So I’m wondering...should I use steam? Should I make the heat higher? Help anyone! Ty!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that starts by using the paint on the lid before the paint in the pot

One important thing I always do is always start at the right part of the canvas to avoid my hands and painting get smudgedmsngjdjdjs
My hands always get smudgy! Good thing it washes off easily with water ;)
So you start at the right and move across to the left? Is that backwards? Wouldn’t you smudge it as you move to the left? If you’re intention is to move vertically, the same issue might occur as well.
