    For those wondering if thoughts really happen -
    Thoughts happen, suffering happens, dreams happen but there is no special significance. Trying to attach significance to thoughts & impressions is akin to trying to decipher Gods love via weather patterns (ie "God must be mad because big volcano erupted!"). In reality thoughts & emotions happen spontaneously, like weather, with no special significance or personal importance. When the separate self ceases to be front & center, there is likewise no special significance given to its absence because there was truly never a separation, nor was there a need for a separate self! When the illusion of separation passes away, thoughts are still thought, feelings are still felt in the body but the mental process of placing them into a generated personal-historical context ceases to be necessary. Do thoughts happen? Yes, but if the phenomenon bothers you even when they have nothing to do with you personally, you may as well simply think happy thoughts. Do bad thoughts & feelings arise? Sure, just like good feelings arise, spontaneously. Both will pass like clouds across the Sky of limitless Self.

    We are not our thoughts nor the subconscious conditioning. Misidentification with these deny us the ability to change them. Once we realize we are the pure consciousness of these, we can distance our identity from them and so we can change them. This knowledge is liberating. It also makes us compassionate towards others because we see the divine pure consciousness they are, not the conditioning they struggle with.

      @@cx777o My above comment is 1st stage, in which I am the awareness within the body mind and the universe appears real outside it.
      Seek happiness. Know your journey is unique; you don't have to be like anyone else. you have to sustain yourself and do your social duties but you don't have to be superior, inferior, or equal to anyone else.
      All successes and failures will come and go. The things you own and your achievements are for sustenance and temporary enjoyment. They will come and go. None of them define you.
      Develop problem solving skills to manage worldly life but don't get caught in who is superior to who drama. Superiority is only for a role in a particular context for practical considerations, not intrinsic to any person. You are not your role. You perform different roles.
      Your actions and even emotions have consequences. Face the consequences and let them guide you. Some strengths and weaknesses you were born with and some you acquired later. All weaknesses are modifiable, the effort proportional to how deep rooted they are. Judiciously assess what to work on and when.
      Finally, just like when walking you can't lift the foot your weight is on, you can't change the qualities you identify with.
      You got to distance your identity from them in order to seek help to change them. When you realize you are neither strengths nor weaknesses nor the stuff that come and go, you realize you are pure awareness of all that comes and goes.
      This is called the witness stage. Though just the 1st stage, it is liberating because it throws away a big chunk of useless baggage while living as a useful member of society.

      @@cx777o In the 2nd stage, the universe I experience is not physical (except for practical purpose). It is sensory perception arising in awareness. What I used to consider an object is really what my limited senses are displaying and I mistook the display for the original. Hint: think of eye defects; we see different images of the same original.
      This stage is funny because I missed something so obvious.
      Understanding this is more like adopting the fixed sun and rotating earth paradigm. Sunrise and sunset phenomena are now seen as apparent and explained with a more powerful paradigm but continue to have practical utility.

    There is truth to what the man in the audiance said. He said he was experiencing extreme thoughts and that he refuse to believe that these thought represent who he is. First and foremost thoughts comes from a few places. As mentioned on the video, we can think and create thoughts. Thoughts of love or thoughts of hate. Then, there is also thoughts that arises from our subconscious, thoughts that were programs from our culture, parents, enviroment that we were expose to or conditioned and the same can be said with our beliefs. Most are not aware, but we live in a ocean of thoughts. Some pass through our minds and others don't but pass through others. Thoughts are always passing and buying or auditioning for our our attention. And that is the key, our attention. So, if we let our thoughts just go by like leaves or paper boats passing in the river in front of us, then we know the leaves or paper boats is not us, for it is seperate, is it not ? So do not despair for we are not our thoughts unless we focus and create it ourselves in our mind. For the mind was made to think, create and recieve thoughts. The yogis knew this centuries ago. It's just when we were born, there was no manual that tells us how to exactly use our mind and why things like this occur. But the yogis do know how the mind works, coz that's what they do. We are all spirit or soul living in our bodies not bodies that has a living soul inside. This will be a hard pill to swallow for some people, but we are not our mind nor are we our body. Namaste, peace be with you.

    This made me cry almost inconsolably. Happy thoughts are not easy to think and I refuse to marinate and wallow in misery so make a conscious effort to not expose myself to anything that puts the fire out from my belly. Those who you see happy make an effort to remain positive just like one gets up early morning and goes for a run or wakes up to meditate at 4am. It's a mind thing, a conscious effort. No one is born a happy ninja warrior. But still, esp nowadays, one increasingly finds oneself surrounded with low energy, even with bare minimum interaction. There is negativity all around no matter how hard one wants to avoid it. Even when one wants to remain contented the sheer nature of human interaction involves relativity. One cannot simply eject and or keep pumping life into people if they choose to remain deflated. It should not be our job to keep someone happy unless we are talking of dependant children learning life skills from us. Just like we wouldn't be expected to digest their meal or walk for them.
    It's the adults that are the hard lot to deal with, including and esp parents who haven't healed their inner child wounds. The worst thing one human can do is to project their fears, insecurities, guilt, and shame on to another. One needs a lot of awareness to not take on those energetic parcels and accept them as our own subconsciously. Does life get easier after enlightenment Rupert - however that works?

      NiNa, I am touched by your post, and can relate to this struggle. There is some poetry in the legend of Buddha's awakening that says: "At this moment, all beings and I awaken together." In meditation, we transcend the mind, and discover ourselves as the knowing field of pure consciousness, and we stay there. When we are doing this, we are actually transcending all mind. Your mind, the mind of your neighbor, the minds of the good people on the news, and the minds that react to the news. Knowing this, I still fall into the struggle in the day-to-day, resisting the minds of others, not wanting to be affected by everyone's noise, and certainly the dysfunction of the world. But this problem is not due to their minds. This problem is due to the arising of the separate self in my own mind. Essentially, what I'm saying is keep at it, and take complete residence in the natural state of open, empty awareness. I think you will find the world bothers you less and less (because it is actually your own mind that does not have the power anymore to make you forget what you essentially are, which is the only reason you are ever upset!)

    It is impossible that any thought is "personal" or personally generated, inasmuch as the brain (composed of atoms which are empty space) is not the source of consciousness or thought or of anything whatsoever.
    All thought, sensation, and perception is impersonal and arises from the one impersonal belief in objectivity. The thoughts feelings, etc., are "occurring" in universal/impersonal consciousness. The sense or experience is that they are personal, located, contained, owned; that there is an "owner" of them. How could that ever be the case when it is understood that all apparent matter is composed of atoms which are empty space? There is no "medium" of a body, mind, or self, to which thoughts "arrive". That is just the seeming, not the actuality. What feels personal, located, and contained, is actually impersonal. The personal does not exist except in belief. So it is all in universal or impersonal consciousness now. There is nowhere for thoughts, feelings, perceptions, sensations to "go". They don't "travel" to "persons", and they don't make persons. The one impersonal belief in objectivity generates data or programs, composed of impersonal unreal energy. It is the energy that arises from the belief in subject/object. The belief that "you've" "inherited" thoughts from your "culture", or been "conditioned" by your "parents", gives credence to the fiction of time and space, bodies, minds, individual intelligences, walled off consciousnesses. If every thought is not questioned or challenged, erroneous conclusions and false premises are unthinkingly accepted, making up a stew of mythological and illogical beliefs. It may not be convenient to question every thought if you want to allow the belief in a finite self to continue, but Truth is what is necessary for liberation. "Ye shall know the Truth and the truth shall set you free."

Depending on the thoughts we think, and what we feel to be true, we "attract" experiences that tend to match what we feel on the inside. Joe Dispenza's work is a great pointer, also Neville Goddard.

Having understood they arise from the illusory seperate self, it might be much easier to just accept those thoughts on the basis of the empirical reality and process them psychologically ( if inner child work is needed - do that) or based on understanding Ishvara as Order in the universe etc ....coming to peace with those thoughts. I appreciate Rupert's reasoning but I dare say it may be flawed, in this circumstance. Saying to someone "think of the number 2 " is not the same saying "Think only happy thoughts". You can say to someone "lift a cup" but you can't say to them "lift a bus" and expected it to happen. Thinking only happy thoughts requires that all unconscious negative thoughts be eliminated. This is not an easy feat. Also, I don't agree that thoughts do not create the world. Our personal thoughts, if they remain on the conscious level, do not create the world. But, if they sink into the collective unconscious they do have a say in creating the world we experience after they have been "Voted upon" and accepted by the collective. A baby's experiences originate from thoughts contained in the collective unconscious of that species. You can also hypnotize someone to have perceptual experiences by introducing thoughts into their mind. For example, you can make them have the experience of eating an apple when they're really eating an onion.

We may not be able control all the random thoughts that enter our minds, but we have the ability to exercise that particular thought, ponder and contemplate on that thought, or we can push that thought aside and allow a new one to enter. At some level, whether it's minut or not, the human conscience has free will. Plus, you are always free to know your experience, regardless of the nature behind it.

    You can't just drop it, you can't do anything with it.
    People put all their energy in to it, that's why it is hurting them.
    If they don't do that it is not there. The problem isn't different to the thought, they are one and the same.
    It is autonomous, your not even doing it, the problem is people are curious they want to play with it, shape it and mould it then its Pandoras box.
    I tell people that this human organism is a miraculous creation, an expression of this very universe, and you really think it can't deal with your psychological and emotional problems.

    Thought(s) are solely instinctive, processed automatically by the cerebral organ. However, to "think" is entirely different, for that is a psychic activity, that manipulates the instinctive thoughts when need be.

What are your assumptions, premises? Also the man asked if thought can affect what we perceive? Quantum physics claims that looking at something affects it?

      The original question [as per the video's title] seems to assume that we already know what 'the mind' is. But do we? And if we don't know what the mind is, then the question itself becomes somewhat pointless, does it not?

    • @wilma8326
      @wilma8326 3 года назад +2

      There is no outside since the separate mind that seems to be on the inside is an illusion. Thoughts just arise in consciousness. Some (most?) thoughts are residues of our conditioning, they are not 'ours'.
      It's not about where they come from or why they come. The question should be, on whose behalve does this thought arise. If it arises on behalf of the separate self there's no need to engage in it. No need to fight it, just drop it. It might take a lot of dropping, though, for some thoughts to subside

      I don't think there was a clear answer. There isn't an inside or outside. All energetic data is in impersonal or universal consciousness. It doesn't travel to "individuals". There aren't any. The one impersonal belief in objectivity gives rise to countless bits of data and posits countless imaginary knowers/perceivers, but this is all going on in impersonal imagination, in universal consciousness. Nothing is actually ever personal. It just feels personal, located, contained, owned. How could that ever actually be the case, when we know that the atom is empty space?! Where a body appears, where any seeming matter appears, it is made of atoms/empty space. That there is a "medium" is a myth, a delusion. There is only one consciousness, now and forever. Unfortunately, consciousness is suffering from the illusion that it is countless knowers; that there are countless lives, and countless experiencers. The brain, composed of atoms, does not, ever, give rise to consciousness or intelligence or life. That is beyond preposterous.

      @@sandycarter5300 But maybe 'consciousness' itself isn't really suffering from the illusion? Perhaps the 'suffering' part only occurs on a certain level of reality (a certain level of itself, if you like). So once the idea of a separate personal self is already established, _then_ the (illusory and personal) suffering manifests. But on a more absolute level at least, the universal consciousness itself might not be suffering at all?

    • @JohnSmith41893
      @JohnSmith41893 3 года назад +3

      Whats being pointed to is that thoughts occur like weather, and are passing by like clouds. The clouds will continue to pass and should not be mistaken for the sky itself. The "True Self" is not limited to your body or its apparent perceptions, thoughts, feelings, etc. Once the body is let to function without the constant projection of mental importance or "circumstance" (generated by the apparent separate self) a sense of calm easiness is felt. In essence, there are no separate thoughts because there is no separate Self. All thoughts and impressions are fragments being generated environmentally like dust devils, like small clouds forming into larger groups. The sky includes the clouds and all weather but is in no way limited or defined by it. The clouds pass by (illusory, apparent separate-self), the Sky (Self) remains.

      Thoughts are waves in the ocean. Waves in the ocean of awareness. But you can experience them as a true self or as an illusioury self. Rupert wants to say that dont follow thoughts while you are in the form of an illusioury self. Return to your self then do something. Dont do anything while in a sleeping state. It is like dont walk in the street while wearing glasses with a filter which passes only red light. Take out the glasses then walk confidently.

    • @zionven
      @zionven 3 года назад

      collective consciousness can be used to interpret the future events, like u have skill and some experience on some topic/object u can repeat the same, but it happens in "now", which u watch thru perception.

      We all experience perception (including babies and animals), then thoughs may come after to "interpret" the already experienced perception.

    • @theindigopickle
      @theindigopickle 3 года назад +5

      He is saying that experience is perception. That is the truth. Thought then interprets experience/perception/truth and that interpretation "creates" (is) the interpreted world (what most people refer to as their mind). This world typically revolves around a central character, aka your representation (image of yourself) in this interpreted/thought/imaginary world. And all of that is fine. The problem arises when we confuse the situation and superimpose the thought world (including this supposed central character) and believe that the thought/imaginary/interpreted world is real and true, and not the actual experience/perception (which is actually true). His suggestion is to focus on the central character, investigate this supposed person, on whose behalf so many (oh so important) thoughts arise. When you do, and you find no one actually there, just an imaginary character with no actual substance or reality to it, then naturally, typically gradually, the thoughts around this character tend to subside.

    • @sandycarter5300
      @sandycarter5300 3 года назад +1

      There is no objective reality that "we" interpret subjectively. The one impersonal belief in objectivity gives rise to countless bits of data, and also claims countless imaginary reference points or subjects supposed to be the knowers or perceivers. The impersonal belief in subject/object instantaneously gives rise to what is commonly called universal consciousness, the "storehouse" for all of this fictional data. The experience is that thoughts, feelings, sensations, perceptions, are personal, located, contained, owned. This is not actually the case. They never leave this impersonal false sense of consciousness and "go" anywhere. Where would they go? They don't travel to individual minds or bodies. The atom is empty space. This is a forever fact that does not change to its opposite. So there is the experience or sense that things are personal, individual, owned, and located, but this can be recognized to be a logical impossibility. All of the data is energetic. It is all energy, the false energy generated from the one belief in subject/object.
      Reality is described by "nde"- ers. It is omnipresent, infinite indivisible, divine Love/Intelligence. That is the true substance of what seem to be things. There is no material realm, except in belief, and that is nowhere!

    He can be awake.
    Enlightnment itself, isn't like he explains. There is a lot of EGO, in his story.
    Enlightnment is pure SELF.
    Even when one is in process of Enlightnment, who control, who guide such process is the SELF.
