This looks like a brilliant upgrade from the DDJ SB2 or 3. I've just bought a DDJ 800 and fully switched to Rekordbox but I'd have given this serious consideration if I was sticking with Serato.
I'll be getting my Primo in 2 days, and I'm really looking forward to rocking out with it. Although I use a Numark MixTrack Platinum now (and I do like that controller), my hands are a bit too big for its jog wheels, and I hate when I accidentally hit the pitch slider on the left deck while scratching. The Primo's design is definitely a problem solver! And with more controls at my availability, I'm certain that the Mixars Primo is a wise decision for my needs. Thanks for this review!
@b m, so far, still good. I periodically keep my fader tracks clean with an air blower. When the crossfader bleeds audio (at least, in past cases for me), dust is usually the culprit. Then again, you can upgrade to a Mini Innofader (which I'll be doing soon)...
super job here. nice vid. will get this and an akai apc40 for ableton. both at the price of a similar ddj with pretty much the same features plus this has a metallic body and being smaller is what i was looking for. awesome job.

Like you, I have the Pioneer DDJ SR2 and have been dissatisfied with short pitch faders and placement of needle touch strip along with no crossfader curve adjustment and very poor quality mic. I have been eyeing the Denon MC 7000 to solve all of these issues but the Mixers Primo looks like it will also at a much cheaper price tag. Can you speak to mic input quality and overall sound quality compared to DDJ SR2? Thanks!
Although I have not used the mic inputs extensively on the Primo, they sounded fine to me. However the sound quality of the Primo overall sounds better to my ear than the SR2.
Would u rather get the Primo (360 Euro Incl. Serato DJ PRO) or the Numark Platinum FX? (285 Euro no software included) what do u think has better build quality/features?
Primo is a lesser brand but a great controller nonetheless, if you don't already own Serato it's probably the best idea, but Serato DJ Pro doesn't come with Pitch'nTime which really you do need nowadays, you need Serato DJ Suite for that.
Where's Mixars at right now,I mean their site is down,are they under the threat of closing? Also would you consider doing a top 10 or top 5 list of midrange controllers,i mean there are so many here and there, Roland dj505, Denon mc4000,traktor, Reloop,pioneer,numark and the list won't end.

I have just bought and it feels great but I have some issues which I would like you could help me sort them out. Colour effects don't work on deck 2. How can I select the channel? Or how does it work? Also, I do not know how to enable the pitch and the play stuff on serato software. Does anyone know? First time using serato dj pro

That's not what Marc was saying. I can manually beat match. I use sync a lot. Does that make me "not a real DJ"? Let's move past this debate - tools are great, you're no better or worse for using or not using them. It's your vision, care and execution that count.

@@digitaldjtips yes the syn debate its far too old , if you are seeing the bpm 80 and all you do you manually match it to 80 how its that better , Unless you use vynil only then i can say syn button its useless , Learning by ear its important because sometimes the software doesn't read it right so then you need to match it , plus syn button doesn't match phrases or bars , in reality doesn't make it any easier , synk all it does saves time to fast mix and other features like to do big changes of bpm

Good review, build-wise how would you compare this to the Reloop Beatpad 2, which is very similar?
Would need to get hands on again with the Beatpad as a refresher, Marc is loving the Primo though!

About mc4000(and if it's not too late)- if you planning on getting one, read Serato forums. Both mc4000 and Primo have their own issues

I've used the SR2 for plenty of gigs and after using the Primo I would say I prefer the Primo. The larger jogs and longer pitch faders won me over.
I'm thinking of getting this instead of a DVS enabled mixer with two Reloop Neons or a DDJ-XP2. What do you think?
That's quite a different setup so just depends on what you need/want - Marc is a big fan of this though and it's certainly a lot more portable

You need to buy Pitch'nPlay.Of you already have it, you need to activate it in the Serato settings. Not sure about FX on deck 2.
