This song was written & recorded in about 20 minutes, Bonham was getting frustrated with trying to get Four Sticks down. Four Sticks was Bonham playing with 2 sticks in each hand, plus the timing. He took a break & started pounding this out on the drums, & we got 2 songs instead of just one. They played this or The Immigrant song, to start off many of their concerts, it got the fans ready to Rock & Roll. Thank you again for your reaction.
You mentioned that this was “new” in its time. Actually, being 1971 when this song was released, it’s a throwback to the rock and roll that these guys grew up with in the 50’s and early 60’s. There are references in this song to lyrics from older songs. “it’s been a long time since “The Book of Love” It’s been a long time since A Walk in the Moonlight. And the main clue: “It’s been a long time since we rock and rolled.” It’s been a long time since we did The Stroll (a dance from the late 50’s) Carry me back, carry me back, carry me back, to the place where I come from,”. It’s nostalgia for old time rock and roll. By the late 60’s, rock and roll was already in the past as a generally popular genre of music, replaced by folk rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock, pop rock, prog rock and hard rock. Zeppelin did all these styles very well. This song is a sweet little homage to the music of their childhoods. ( snd mine)
Exactly. The 1950's music was the music they listened to and made it their own. I personally love the music of the 50's. If you listen to it from the perspective of it being the first wave of rock, it' must have been mind-blowing. It's also just FUN music.
I always imagine what it would be like to be front row, hands on the stage, or even in the middle of the packed crowd. Concerts in the 70's were a lot different than today. No cellphones, it was more communal and for the experience to be there and enjoy the music.
PLEASE react to anything from the 2007 CELEBRATION DAY concert at O2 Arena!!!! Plant is 59/Page is 63/Jones is 61 and John Bonhams SON Jason is playing drums
Hi, I'm a first time writer to you both, it's awesome to see you both enjoying the brilliance and power of Led Zeppelin the greatest rock band of all time. I grew up when they were together and yes we were overwhelmed by them. Their music is timeless and is still better then anything that comes out today. I have a request for you that will not disappoint, it's called No Quarter live 1973 in Madison Square garden. I can't wait to see your reaction. Thank you for the enjoyment of watching you become Led Zep fans
Yeah, this song was just put together in a few minutes in the studio to release tension. Think of it as just a little tidbit of what is to come, and a nice way for them, especially Robert, to warm up for much greater things to come.
The 2nd most rousing performance of this song was Heart covering it when I saw them at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ, on August 16th, 1977. They closed their show that night with it and dedicated it to the King. It was the day Elvis died.
Rock and roll at its finest !!!!! JPJ and Bonzo holding it all down brilliantly. Carol - you can’t get enough of this whatever your mood or whatever you’re doing. It just makes you move even in the most ridiculous circumstances- I once got told off for dancing to this on a bus !!!! It’s infectious
Nah...pretty sure they opened most 71 and 72 with "Immigrant" and R&R for 73 tour but I THINK "Song remains the same" for 75 and 77. could be wrong but i know it wasnt only r&r for all those years, though it WAS Rock and Roll, if you take my meaningf!
I truly enjoy watching your reactions to many of my favorite bands and performers! You've enjoyed Stairway to Heaven live and studio; now you need to react to Heart's rendition where they honored Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 2012! They transform this iconic rock song into an orchestral masterpiece! Brought Robert Plant to tears, both for the performance and seeing John Bonham's son Jason at the drums!
I know you two like the 70s era of rock--as do I--but just keep in mind that rock has had a lot of eras and styles. The 90s were a true golden age that rivaled the 70s. (Having grown up with 70s rock, I feel rather ashamed to admit it, but the 90s may have been the best decade of rock ever.) The songs were even more hard hitting and powerful. Some of the best songs ever came out of the 90s. If you plan to start out with the older stuff first, that's a great idea and I would encourage you to do so with the intention of moving through the eras. But if you happen just to not be aware of what's out there, thought I would mention it.
Saludos desde México,me gusta su pagina, les recomiendo ya que es medio oriente, hicieron un disco Page y Plant 1994 llamado "No Quarter" escuchen la canciin de Wah Wah, y todo el disco son con musicos de alla y marruecos. Regresando a Led Zeppelin escuchen..."the ocean" "the lemon song" "fool in the rain" "in the light" "rain sog" "dyer maker" "in my time of dying" "all my love" "hot dog" "the rover" por mencionar algunas. Saludos
Here's another song by the band "Yes", to give a listen, if interest. "Yes - Roundabout (2003 Remastered)" (by the channel: yesofficial) --This song by English progressive rock band "Yes" is from their fourth studio album called "Fragile" released in 1971. peace out~
Nowhere near as awesome as the C minor blues that is 'Since I've been loving you'. Guys, check out the studio version of that - it's quite different from the live performance, which you've reacted to.
Yah, this is the Zeppelin equivalent of a "fluff" song. No deep musical statement, just a standard head-bang simple party tune. It's just fun and meant to be fun without too much examination.
I see you all like to react to Rock&Roll, but mostly oldies. Would you like to react to an amazing trio of sisters from Mexico? Check out the song Animosity, from the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 2022 LIVE concert. The Villarreal sisters were 22, 20, and 17yrs old. I guarantee you will want to see/hear more. Hope to see you soon!!
Well then...If you want to hear more hard rock music it is high time that you both discovered The Who. The go-to video most, including me, would recommend would be...The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (Stepperton Studios / 1978).
request this one it rocks Led Zeppelin - Bring It On Home (Live at The Royal Albert Hall 1970) [Official Video] the heviest LED ZEPPELIN song their is .
You guys are the so great, i love this song the vibe is there but try some black sabbath (paranoid or war pigs), i love you guys my Lebanese fam . Much love from London ❤👍
The ending seems odd because they immediately segue into their next song in the set…Celebration Day. That would have been a good idea, but you had no way of knowing.
Hey guys! Next, I’m suggesting a fan favorite that everybody loves. When the Levee breaks from their fourth album. This one Zeppelin takes you to the deep south. Some great harmonica by Plant as well. If you don’t get high, make believe you do and turn this one way up!!!❤️ ruclips.net/video/JM3fodiK9rY/видео.htmlsi=iR4lKftyJRVAOPPg
A couple of suggestions for you. Trampled Under Foot live for “sensory overload “ in a good way or The Lemon Song for a great bass line. Any song is great!
Thanks again for doing my pick! I thought you would get a kick out of seeing what was an opener for some of their earlier concert tours. They always opened with high energy! Carol, when you are in the mood, please listen to the original studio recording, Roberts vocals are through the roof. It was originally recorded for the fourth album released in 1971 that also has Stairway and Black Dog. I prefer the studio version! ❤️
YAY YAY YAY!!! i **Luv** watching You **Two** reacting to **MyBelovedOtherWorldlyLedZeppelin** & course **MyBeautifulJimmyPageMagicalGeniusWizardBabe** Thank YOU ever so! Always **Luv** hearing your **Thoughts** & **Feelings** your reactions **Brighten** my day!!! **PixieHugz&Luvz** **RockON!!!**
My best year’s ever for me . But would like to see you reaction a young guitarist his name is Marcin Patrzalek a couple of tunes I recommend is (Beethoven 5 Symphony on one guitar Or Kashmir a lead zeppelin song played on one guitar Great reaction Thank you
"You need to be in a certain mood to listen to this song." No, I would say that you will get in a certain mood, when you listen to this song... happy and energetic. 😊 Maybe listen to some AC/DC? Live from River Plate, all songs are amazing! 🤘
I know you two have reacted to Kashmir and I have a request...Kashmir - Live - Celebration Day Concert. They are all near 60 yrs of age for this concert and have Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham, on drums.
A good Zep song for when you're not feeling particularly energetic and or perhaps even a bit melancholy, two songs that I usually turn to, and that I highly recommend, are Ten Years Gone or The Rain Song (studio versions), not live. Please. Now, I'm probably going to get slammed for what I'm about to say. So be it. This song, Rock & Roll, is actually is the lower third of my favorites by them 😬 Love your reactions, and keep up the great work. I better get into hiding now!
Hahahahah I gotta hide too because I said that this is my least favorite song of Led Zep so far 🙈 We'll be slammed together lol We'll check out those recommendations for sure 😁❤️
The wuss (jokingly) drummer I was in a cover band with in the early 80's refused to open with this song. Said he needed to be really warmed up before playing it because Bonzo was so difficult to copy. Fair enough, whenever he did get around to playing it later in the night he always kicked a$$! Thanks for your reactions!
nice enjoyable reaction. Must be said this song has been way overplayed on the radio.....good song but one of their more one-dimensional songs. Glad they always started their shows with it to get it over with(lol!)
This one's one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. Fast and rocks hard. I got to see Page and Plant when I was 19 years old on their No Quarter tour in '95 and was soooo hoping they would play it but they didn't. Bummer. Glad I got to see them though.
great song to open a show...but, it ain't "Dazed and Confused"...hope you can react to the studio version (Zep Debut Album...Led Zeppelin I) b4 June 22nd...that is when I have tickets to see Robert Plant live with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson of all people...need some fresh inspiration from ya'll b4 my one time seeing any member of the led zep live...thanks much and keep up the great reactions!!
🙋🏼♂️ 🇬🇧 😃 good reaction to a magical performance by LZ .. almost as good as Phil Foden !!!! 🥳 😂 .. SORRY folks couldn't resist 🙏🏻 .. hope you are both well & happy 🙏🏻✌🏻
Since you guys like rap and are getting more and more into rock, you should watch Kasey Chambers cover of lose yourself by Eminem.. it's a great bluegrass rock version
OK. I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan and (in my opinion) the best version of "Kashmir" is their live version from the 2007 Celebration Day concert in London's O2 Arena. I believe this is the last time the boys played together as Led Zeppelin. Of course, the drummer was Jason Bonham, who filled in for his late father John. Except for Jason, the guys were advanced in age, but they still rocked it big time. I love this version of "Kashmir" and it is a MUST for every Led Zeppelin fan to watch. The whole concert is fantastic too. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/PD-MdiUm1_Y/видео.html Enjoy!
Dang! RP changed the melody to a lower register! I can see why - singing the original melody night after night on tour would potentially make you lose your voice. But I sure prefer the higher melody. Way less exciting version here.
Unlike many of these live performances, that stays fairly true to the studio version. And the reason is, obviously, because you don't want to kick off a show with a long meandering piece. It also demonstrates just how much variety they could draw on when putting together a set-list.
Ce morceau n'a jamais été leur préféré, c'est devenu un incontournable pour le public dans les concerts mais ce n'est pas à mon avis le meilleur . Il était idéal pour démarrer leur prestation.
Elie, if you want real “rock and roll” you need to go back in time a bit from 1970….back to the late 50’s and early 60’s. Listen to Chuck Berry, Lil’ Richard, Elvis, The Big Bopper etc.
I love you guys so much! More Rock & Roll ? This will get you pumped!! Smokin by Boston. You’ll love it. Thanks for you awesome reactions! ruclips.net/video/bDI-AdnIK08/видео.htmlsi=8lKf8f93nLnAdmPo
That's funny that she said this is her least favorite of what she's heard, among Zeppelin fans that's a pretty typical attitude. Among my circle it's rock and roll and hats off to Roy Harper, the two least amazing Zeppelin songs. To be clear they don't have a bad song, but if you're going to rank them this is pretty simply down near the bottom.
Mental isn’t Rock…it’s angry loud without purpose! It’s really GARBAGE…LIKE RAP….NOW GET OF MY LAWN! Kidding; Kind of. Now rap is Garbage…except Tom McDonald! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
And Ren. And gotta say…there’s some excellent metal out there ……I say this as a 77 year old lady who just discovered metal a few years ago. And yeah…there’s plenty of garbage to go around in all genres. ✌️
This is the perfect song to open a concert with. Lots of energy to get the crowd pumped.

The drum part was already written from little Richard's "keep a knockin."
@@neillenet291 the rest of it wasn’t.
@sicotshit7068 right, but the drum intro was. The entire song is a tribute to 50's rock.
Yep an impromptu jam session!!
It's 3 chords and basically Little Richard's Keep a knocking
At the beginning…..someone yells “Let’s GO!” That was Bonzo!
For several years, Cadillac used the beginning of this song (studio version) in their commercials.😊

Battle of Evermore, a very unique song by Led Zeppelin. The only song where Robert Plant has a guest vocalist. Check it out, its a great song.
I truly enjoy watching your reactions to many of my favorite bands and performers!

This song allegedly was written to celebrate the 16th birthday of rock and roll, as many consider the beginning of the genre to have been in 1955.
I know you two like the 70s era of rock--as do I--but just keep in mind that rock has had a lot of eras and styles. The 90s were a true golden age that rivaled the 70s. It is based on the original raw rock & roll vibe of the 1950s with more amps and Marshall Amps here
Every time the camera holds on Plant, girl gets just a little googly-eyed. She's wondering: "Where are the guys like that today?" 😂
you're projecting pretty hard
Should have kept that going into Celebration day, they go together so well.
That's the different styles of LZ. They do it all with ease.
You have to listen to The Rain Song by Zeppelin. Page’s best composition in my humble opinion. The lyrics are poetry as well
Their ode to rock n roll . Awesome

This was the way they started their shows. The lights went out, no announcements, then strobe lights and a 5 hour trip. ❤
From 1975 The Song Remains The Same was the opener.
I don't THINK they ever went FIVE hours, lol! But longer than most bands, for sure, it got to be three there at the end.

It's actually a fairly standard 12 bar blues / rock number, but of course, in the hands of Led Zep, still pretty awesome.

Metalhead is a demotion

And Ren. And gotta say…there’s some excellent metal out there ……I say this as a 77 year old lady who just discovered metal a few years ago. And yeah…there’s plenty of garbage to go around in all genres. ✌️
