  • View the Opentrons OT-2 liquid handling robot as it performs many liquid handling functions, including aspirate, drop tip, touch tip, air gap, consolidate, pause, delay, and more.
    Manipulating Pipette Location
Opentrons' Electronic Pipettes can move almost anywhere inside of the OT-2. A typical use case for manipulating the aspiration location would be aspirating from the side of the well opposite magnetically-engaged beads and extractions. You may wish to dispense at the top of the well for distributing reagents to already populated wells to avoid cross-contamination.
    Mixing Function
Mixing on the OT-2 is achieved by pipetting up-and-down repeatedly.
    Adjusting Pipette Flow Rate
The OT-2 can manipulate pipette flow rates to accommodate your workflow. If there are concerns over implementing air bubbles into your solution, you can slow down the flow rate. Conversely, you may wish to increase the flow rate for a vigorous mix.
    Pause Function
The OT-2's pause function stops the protocol from proceeding until the user clicks resume on the Opentrons app. Click pause when we're replenishing reagents, switching out sample tubes, or spinning down tubes between steps.
    Touch Tip Function
The touch tip function can be called after aspirating or dispensing. Touch tip is used to move the pipettes currently attached tip to four opposite edges of a well. This knocks off any droplets that might be hanging from the tip.
    Blowout Function
The blowout function can be implemented after dispensing liquid to blowout is to push an extra amount of air through the pipettes tip to make sure that any remaining droplets are expelled.
    Air Gap Function
The air gap function can be called after aspirating. When dealing with certain liquids, you may need to aspirate air after aspirating the liquid to prevent dripping from the pipette's tip.

Still waiting for liquid level tracking ;) This would make the OT2 a fully competitive liquid handling robot. I know, you can program workarounds, which I already did, but it would open up so many more users.

Definitely a helpful feature but not without drawbacks. The black Tecan tips always left me guessing as to how the pipetting was going. I like how you can clearly see through the tips and get a feel for how the pipetting is and what kind of residual etc.
