Chapter 5 is like Australia in Paper Mario, but instead of everything being potentially lethal/poisonous, they are all just prone to crashing.

You are one of my favorite, if not the favorite channel to discuss deeper looks into glitches and seeing that you are specialized about Paper Mario makes me love you even more. I always wondered how much you could actually do with my favorite Mario game and thanks to you, I came back to it and played through it twice over the last months. Thanks Stryder, you da best.

There is a softlock I think, that involves a battle with Piranha Plants and Loading Zone Storage. But that only prevents you from getting one of the Yoshi kids. But with enough glitching you don´t need them anyway
I dont even know anything about paper mario nor have i played it ever yet i absolutely love these videos that showcase glitches and explain some inner mechanics of games even if i dont know much about them. Fascinating stuff here!

The First two paper mario games, Paper Mario for the N64, and Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door for the Gamecube, were the most highly rated games when they came out, and those ratings still stand, but something happened and nintendo couldn't do RPGs anymore, so then we have the others, which are all good games, it just depends on how you see them.

When I'm stressed, I try to find the most soothing way to crash a game.
Sorry to bug, but is there any news on the top 10 easiest glitches? I want to perform some of these babies.
I want it to be my next Top 10, but it's also an incredibly long process getting footage all over the game, so I usually have to take breaks with those large projects. There will be some glitch videos coming out soon that have some easy ones too, so hopefully that's a fair compromise in the meantime!

2:20 I have been able to crash the game twice purely by jumping on that very flower. Though I only have it on the Switch, I found it amusing that I finally got to crash the game by myself.
The first time I crashed it was earlier this year, but sadly when it crashed, I think NSO did too, and I wasn't able to get footage of it crashing. But I did get recordings of the flower acting off, such as parts of the flower suddenly stretching for a split second, parts of or the whole flower's sprite(?) being glitched, and the foreground flickering out a couple times.
Just yesterday, though, I loaded up my save and noticed it was still on the very room with that flower. It'd been a while since I last played, but I got mostly re-used to the controls and began spinning around and jumping on the flower once more. This time, I recorded it with my phone, knowing NSO could crash again. And this time, something new and more interesting happened.
One time when I jumped on the flower, the framerate suddenly dropped a significant amount, and the audio turned choppy in this weird way that reminded me of underwater stuff. The lag started, I believe, when I jumped onto the flower. It persisted afterwards.
Though I jumped on it a few more times, the game didn't crash, surprisingly. Honestly, I think the point where this time got a lag spike was likely the point where last time crashed the game. Something about the lag spike caused by jumping on the flower.
Either way, with this lag now here, I thought of perhaps going into a battle like this and seeing if it worked. To do so, I just headed for the next room so I could battle a Shy Guy and --
The game crashed right when I touched the loading zone. Funnily enough, NSO didn't catch the crash, but I am betting it was a crash. at least, the game froze, I forgot if that counts as a crash. Music stopped, I could still access the NSO menu, but no button inputs would get the game to respond.
I just reset the game, and this time when I loaded my savestate, the flower was perfectly fine and nothing I tried could get it to even be a bit glitchy. Actually, the same thing happened last time I did this; after the crash, trying it again doesn't work. Since I've only done it twice, I don't know what you have to do to get the flower to be glitchy again, but it seems to be consistent to some level, at least as much as consistency can be measured with just 2 tries...
But yeah, something's pretty up with that flower, maybe something about RAM or whatever that gets cleared up after resetting the game...?? Not sure, being a noob on this stuff myself.
On the side, I goofed around next to the loading zones and managed to do a few neutral frame perfect jumps, delaying the loading zone's transition by a second or two, before I messed up and it faded out.
I even got to do that trick you pull off where you use your hammer on the last frame before the loading zone, even a couple times in a row! Needless to say, I was and still am very proud of myself.

I know this video was a long time ago, but I still want to say something so here goes. I once encountered a crash on the N64 version of the name. I'm not sure what happened but I went into a fight, beat it, and once I went back to the overworld, I got into another encounter about a second after the first one. Not sure if it's the cause but I shook the controller a bit (as I was like "god not another one, let me go") and before it showed the battle the game crashed. It was close to the beginning of the game (before king goomba) and am unsure if it was the controller shaking (probably wasn't but might as well not ignore the option), or if it was the time inbetween battles being too short.

These flowers were all watered with the harvested tears of speedrunners who got game crashes in front of Rosie. They absorbed the salt and now exist to literally halt Mario's progress forever, requiring his screen deity to reset the universe again.

Music can still play after a crash on the N64 because the console (strangely) processes music through the Main BUS, which is still operating when the game crashes.
2:22 After all we learned about VC, it is probably just a VC crash, and not a Paper Mario one.
VC is well documented to have a random chance to crash at all times, regardless of game or methods.
I think the spinning flower issue is a matter of scope. The functions for changing the music/hitboxes/throwing out coins/etc. are likely tied to Mario's normal state. Anything which changes this state could softlock the game if I'm right. Things like hitting lava, flowers, fake doors.
When you leave the battle the cpu tries to call the appropriate functions, but since you aren't in your normal state these are out of scope. The game can't properly execute the transition to mario's normal, interactive state, and thus the game continues as a softlock.
Why the spin hard crashes the game instead, I'm not sure. I bet it has to do with the flower state taking a frame to initiate, and is hard tied to the coordinates in the scene.
Rosie murders her victims violently and silently by crashing the game and taking the player to an alternate dimension where he/she dies horribly, or just say that it's a game crash I dunno!

I am expecting this to be a mere programming oversight forgetting to disable the ability for remote partners to start a battle, which because of this, can lead to glitch complications and a crash.
