Metallica is one of those bands that even their haters can’t deny live
Probably one of the best bands that has ever walked the face of this glorious earth
100percent true friend
The Greatest Band
Definitely one of them..
Lol Metallica quit in the mid 90s, they just haven't had the strength to admit it or announce it
All the way up until they cut they hair and released load which was probably the worst album ever until reload and everything else got worse and worse
This whole concert is epic. Seattle 1989 is their best show captured on video.
Absolutely agreed.
This and Disasterpieces are the 2 greatest live concerts! Hands down.
Didn’t Queensrÿche open up for Metallica at this concert?
@@nitro_001newman2 IDK but I saw their show in Portland the next day and the Cult opened for them and they killed. Favorite concert from my youth.
Honestly, the best Metallica show(s) captured live is the entire Live Shit: Binge & Purge 'experience' of nearly 6 hours of video - 4 shows, of which Seattle was two of the included stops (multiple nights,) and San Diego being the other show captured on video over multiple nights. Mexico City was the entire audio experience of over 3 hours, (5 different shows,) and is insane in its own right.
This is premium metallica.
No other band has quiet hit the heaviness grooves and badassery as these guys from 89-91 doubt anyone ever will.
Nah these were the beginning of the sell out days. They were much harder sounding with Cliff.
I have seen Metallica 4 times and their live outdoor concerts are the best. Also, Metallica Live and Albums are two different animals.
The Black album was the line drawn in the sand for many. I'm 50. I saw Metallica in 2 different venues in Denver in the 80's that have been long since raised to the ground. Their fans had a hard time with anything after the Black album if you had been a fan up to that point. So your taste and assessment is spot on!
ya i personally love load and reload.. they are almost as high on my list as previous albums@@LNSCDTi
A day on the green 1985 live i think it is is my favorite live version of this song. Cliff banging away on his bass is just epic
I know a lot of people prefer their older stuff. I do too but I don’t hate their newer stuff. They got older, they changed. Hetfield has struggled with addiction. Change is growth. With any aging band it’s harder to recapture the magic of youth. Not to mention the late Cliff Burton was a major influence on their early sound. I’d still be interested to hear your take on some of their later songs like Bleeding Me or even some of their covers like Turn the Page.
True, but they have become more mainstream, latest album sounds very generic, it's sad when you go on YT and see a cover of Lux Aeterna which is made with the old sound of Kill Em All and it actually sounds better than the original.
Agreed
I will be the first to admit: I do NOT like their music POST Load and Reload. However, I have to admit thats just my personal opinion and preference. There are other Metallica fans that like their newer stuff and love the older stuff. We can all co-exist in peace and love the music. 😊
James sounds fantastic on their last two albums(Hardwired and 72 Seasons), and he's been sounding excellent at their post-Covid live shows
first post covid live sound wasnt the best. ive seen them multiple times from
Damaged Justice on. still my favorite band ever.
I've watched about 6 of your videos already and I'm going to call it now.
You're going to end up with millions of followers since you're so genuine.
Keep it up and beautiful job! 💪🏾👍🏾
My favorite version of this song played live by far is the “cliff them all” version, August 85. This whole show at Seattle is epic, but especially master of puppets. Seattle 89 is my favorite live version of master of puppets. Check out “cliff them all”. You got to see Cliff Burton. Legend.
I wasn't at this concert, but I was at another on this same tour. Toronto, 1990. 12 years old and already hooked on this incredible thing called heavy metal.
I totally get where you're coming from with your feelings towards "new" Metallica.
I saw them for the first time on this tour in Atlanta and it's one of the most memorable Metallica concerts that I've seen, and I've seen 11 of them.
Old Metallica was just a different vibe.
Metallica is one of the GREATEST live bands to ever step on a stage. Ask not for whom the bells tolls, it tolls for thee. They’re better live than in studio.
Gotta check out creeping death live in Moscow 91
You just nailed it with his voice. I like his old singing style.
The feeling after a Metallica concert is the best! Body buzzing and ears ringing for two days after. Pure euphoria! 🤘❤
I tolltally agree. Nothing to say more.
Love your reaction 🤗
Seattle 89, the Greatest Metallica concert of all time. Period. My #1 favorite band ever. I got my first tattoo in their honor. #MetallicaForLife
@7:14 I was "there" (maybe not this particular show, but around this time) and not only is the ground vibrating but the air is. I remember being aware that every kick drum beat my pant legs slammed into my shins. Not kidding.
You like the older Metallica. You just earned a new subscriber. Rock on Sister. Rock on. 🤘😎🤘 Edited to add: YES. They took their time took you (the listener) on a journey. Thats why old school Metallica fans like myself (pre-Load/Reload) got so pissed when they “sold out” and made shorter songs for radio. Everything up to 1996 is AMAZING. After that, SHIT.
New or old, I just love them! They make my day better! Thank you! 🤘
GOAT heavy metal band.
I agree with you, I like old METALLICA VS NEW, for same reasons
I was at this concert and every Seattle concert of theirs since 1984. Lol I feel privileged to have seen them since they first started.
During the Black Album days, James blew out his vocal chords singing the cover So What and had to relearn how to sing using proper techniques. He almost had to retire from singing. I think that had a lot to do with his change in voice from previous albums. Its crazy to think that before that happened, he never really had proper training.
Glad your not going to give up on this outstanding band....many people love the first 4 so you're definitely not alone
"He's the Parsley on top" LOL!
I agree with you that the old Metallica is just extra special and the new stuff really hasn't done it for me either except maybe a few songs here and there. However, I do encourage you to listen to a few of the songs on the 72 seasons album the new one. About six of the songs are kind of annoying, but the other six really grow on you, and two of those six are fantastic and I enjoy listening to them over and over. We don't mind if you listen to the 72 seasons songs, react to them (the music videos) and if you don't like something to say nope doesn't do it for me and go to the next one because I really think that since you like the old Metallica, and some of their songs on this new album actually are really in the old style in many ways, I think you'll like some of these songs. Hope to you though. I respect your decision either way. Take care and thanks for reacting well to For whom the Bell tolls, one of my favorite songs as well :-)
I was lucky enough to see them in high school/ late 80's, on AND JUSTICE FOR ALL tour
This goes into Sanitarium. Have you thought of doing a full concert review from this show. It truly is one of the greatest live tapings ever recorded.
Always a pleasure to hear your thoughts!
As for Metallica suggestion, I don't know why people jump to the later 90's and onwards songs. The basics are the thrash Gods, who paved the way for metal as we know it. The change afterwards was right for them, to the stage they were in. I can't say I'm a big fan of it, even though I was (and will probably always be) a big fan of Metallica. But to know how things transpired, one has to know the legendary music of the 80's, and how huge they became in the scene, and how they broke into the mainstream, under such a short amount of time.
From Seatle, there is the whole show, honestly. Because every number was among the greatest ever played by Metallica.
But there is a string of their favorite covers, one video with "Last Caress (Misfits cover)/Am I Evil (Dimond Head cover)/Whiplash (Metallica's thrash hymn form Kill Em All). They work so well together. And the crowd shots from these songs are great.
I got to be at that concert in Minnesota! Couldn’t lift my head or talk for a week
I'm with you the old stuff is my favorite.
Such a great song live, have seen it 10-12 times (it gets blurry). Late 80s/early 90s was definitely the best.
Agreed! Old Metallica over new. I’m a diehard first 3 (maybe 4) albums when his voice was raw and true.
It’s more the transition of from youthful maniacs to father and getting older I grew up on MEtALLICA hands down the greatest band to ever walk this planet as a musician I too can’t play like when I was in high school in the mid to late 90s but I swear you this go to one of their shows listen to them live right now I promise you it will be the greatest show you’ve ever see. I promise u
So, I’m summary, it’s not really about his voice overall it’s about the change stylistically the band has gone through and how his technique has changed over the years to save his voice and how his voice plays against the different style of composition now employed.
I agree completely...not what it is used to be today
Ok now you have to react to the rest of Seattle 89. Its legendary.. like face melting legendary. You gotta do it. I dont make the rules here 🤷♂
I'm with you on the old vs new Metallica. They lost me after Justice, and that's OK, because I have four great albums plus some EP's to enjoy prior to their shift.
I think one of their greatest song was off the Black album, the song is called Sad But True, heavy song with interesting lyrics with a twist which a lot of reviewers miss.
Day on the green. Oakland '85 for sure. For whom the bells toll. Cliff all the way🤘🤘🤘
metallica's new album just came out a couple weeks ago and they preformed some of the new songs live on Howard and kimmel last week.... i highly recommend checking it out
Happy to hear that you are giving them another chance!!
Go with The Four Horsemen next 🤙
I'm telling you, is a roller coaster
Nice reaction 👍
Great description of what happened after their style change :S
was fortunate to see them in 1990 1991
Anything from this Seattle 89 concert is the best
I was there at that concert and again in 92. In 92, I'm on video head bunting James and screaming in his face bc I missed the microphone. James was letting the audience participate during Seek and Destroy. Oops. My bad James. Sorry.
You're so right about the glaring differences between classic, badass Metallica and newer/bland/uninspired Metallica. It was all downhill after the Black Album. But for those first few albums they were off the charts.
Alot of metallica fans have their opinions and I feel the same way you do.. I heard master of puppets in '86 and was hooked instantly, loved all their music to justice and when black album came out I liked a few songs but just didn't love it the way I loved their albums before. I've tried to listen to all their new stuff after the black album but I could never get into it and even their live performances after '93 I just can't get into them.
But everyone has their own opinion of metallica and they're still my favorite band of all time, saw them live in their prime in 89 & 92 and that's all that matters to me😊
If you liked Jame’s voice on this one, listen to The Thing That Should Not Be from this same show!
True.
I never cared much for the album version, but the live performance from this concert really made me appreciate this song.
Blew me away, to be specific.
This is there best live concert recording. This & Moscow '91 are Metallica at there peak. Before James started playing around with his voice so much
Their older stuff still sounds good today. You should react to their recent concerts and see how they play their old songs.
Youth is a powerful thing...this is them in their prime no doubt but Metallica have played so many awesome shows over their 40 years of playing... you should try some songs from Death Magnetic (Quebec Live) you may like some of that stuff.
This looks like that tour, 89 sounds about right, I have Chronic C.R.S!
I was at this concert and will never forget it!!!!🤘🤘🤘
James Hetfield is the parsley sprinkled on top. LMAO!!! That's awesome! 😂😂😂 Best analogy ever!
I like this women Can feel her positive vibes
There's nothing like Prime Metallica
Kathryn, You figured it out well. I agree. True fan of them. Now the 'anger and energy' is not what it used to be in their songs.
I love "old Metallica". For me that is 1983-1996, from kill 'em all to load.
Listen to their albums Death Magnetic (The Day That Never Comes, Cyanide, That Was Just Your Life) and Hardwired (Hardwired To Self-destruct, Atlas Rise). Those albums are vastly different than Load, Reload, and St. Anger.
Great song choice to react kathryn
And I have to agree with you, after a point they just were not what they once were.
From the start, You got the same idea than me ! Old good school Metallica!!
Black Album was the last acceptable one...
I'd love to see how you react to No Leaf Clover, one of my personal favorite songs by Metallica... It's got all the stuff you'll love!
listen the the song Battery from the 89 concert ...
Exactly how I feel about Metallica, incl James’ voice … the Black album in 91 was where it started to change, and was where they lost me. BUT… up til then, phenOMenal!
I was there in Seattle and in 92. There's a video online of that show and it shows me screaming in James' face during Seek and Destroy towards the end of the show. You're right. Early metallica was best and he changed his voice after losing it during a show. It's not the same but they're still metallica.
MTV did a show called "Icons" years ago honoring icons of the music industry. They did a show on Metallica where a number of different bands covered Metallica songs. My personal favorite is Limp Bizkit covering Sanatarium. I see you like LB and Metallica and thought you might be interested in watching the performance. Type "Limp Bizkit Sanatarium" in the search bar and enjoy. Maybe another reaction video??
Having grown up in the 80's and early 90's, I was there every step of the way with Metallica and I think context has a lot to do with some of us older folks preferring their pre-black album era. We saw the band progress with each album and peak with ...And Justice For All. I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed Metallica live on that tour in 1989. It was the perfect time because they could play a two hour, twenty song set and every single song was a fan favorite. Now, imagine the anticipation for the next album. We sat down and listened to the black album and were like, "WTF?" It wasn't a forward progression. It wasn't horrible but it definitely didn't feel like that slow burning, dark, dangerous, angry, heaviness we had come to know and love AND expect. Guess their first mistake was going with Bon Jovi's producer. But honestly, I quit paying attention to what they did after that. You never see anyone react to their eyeliner and short hair period. You're absolutely right that they conformed and started trying to fit in. They were never about that in the 80's.
Completely agree I tried with the black album I saw Metallica when they were touring between Black and what load album or whatever and apparently the band got tired of playing songs off the Black album because they played for a solid two hours plus and only two songs were from the black album. For me the loss of Cliff was the bands falling. His love for Classical music and the ideas of musical structure and theory he showed James and Lars really showed up as the songs continued to progress. Not to Mention the way Cliff shreds that bass Guitar intro is a sound never to be matched. After the Black album and then Lars and James controlling ways and selling out to the industry. Add in their fight to kill Napster and music sharing I am surprised that any newer Metallica is ever reacted to on RUclips for fear that the two of them be like that's our music and we deserve to profit for the use of it. "We sell records so you buy them not to just share and make copies for our fans will always be true and support our fight" What a sad ending in my book for what once was the best in thrash metal in 80's. Luckily, I found solace in the form of Slayer and although I will never stop listening to early Metallica, corporate sell outs and a poor attitude is all I find in the new Metallica.
James did say in the Some Kind of Monster documentary that he blew his voice out during the Black album.
I would be interested in seeing how you react to their live performance with the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra concert and their "later" song HERO OF THE DAY. I am an old-school-Metallica-is-best guy too, but that one has a something special to it factor. I think you'll really enjoy that one.
Their new album is very authentic I think, inamorata is my favorite song
I also recommend you listening halo on fire live 10/10
The return album and the introduction of robert trujillo is worth listening to
James Hetfield is the ingredient in every MetallicA dish you can't eat without
The authority over the crowd that this era James Hetfield (and band) had is unparalleled. And if you analyze it, his voice is incredibly on point for what he asks it to do in a live setting. I think it meant a lot to him to bring his A-game to Seattle, specifically.
I read that one of their influences was iron maiden. Their songs all tell stories they are in their 70s and still touring.
Calm down, James just turned 60 lol still very inpressive
The new album feels like a throwback a little bit.
Young James and older James are different but the same kinda to me i agree i grew up listening to all their music
shoulda listened to the day on the green version😫
I wish this was one with Cliff, you'd have liked that one much more!
❤❤❤
right choice...if want to listen Metallica...you must listen live...cause live version...more metal....
With you 100%. Metallica is my favourite band of all time but I greatly prefer pre-94 Metallica and tend to only listen to their first 4 albums with Ride the Lightning being my favourite. This Seattle ‘89 show is easily one of the greatest recorded sets in history. Creeping Death, Four Horseman, and Battery from this show are insane (every song from this show is tbh lol).
Jason Newsted on bass is an absolute monster. His background vocals are terrifying lol 🤘🏻
listen to “Leper Messiah” on the Master of Puppets album. That’s a prime example of his old ‘86 voice.
You should try some load/reload era , hero of the day, bleeding me, outlaw thorn. You gonna enjoy it.
Have you reacted to Blackened from the same concert yet? If not, why not? 😂😂
The hair👍🤘
Also think about this they literally played every single show absolutely loaded and killed ever show I know I was their a lot 😂
James got more into "singing" during the Black Album. Initially, it just broadened his range. However, as the years went by, "singing" more saved his vocal cords so that he can still perform. He actually damages his throat/vocal cords in the past and has learned how to keep himself healthy.
I like old and new.. 😊
Imagine telling James Hetfield “you’re like the perfect little sprinkles on top of metal” 😂
Me encanta Metallica... escuchaste a mi parecer, el mejor concierto registrado que tienen ellos. Seattle`89 ... insisto con esta canción "The Outlaw Torn álbum "Load" Studio version
I searched and see you haven't reacted to any of these songs from their first album: The Four Horsemen__Seek & Destroy__Jump in the Fire. If you love early Metallica...then what are you waiting for? But yeah, the first time I saw Metallica was early 83 in S.F. before the first album was recorded. And of course I bought every album up to and including the Metallica (Black) album. After that I bought no more. I did still listen to what ever was played on radio...but nothing I heard, inspired me to buy another of their albums.
I do agree and I think most fans of Metallica would agree that the older stuff is better. But I do think some of there newer songs are great. I just think the older stuff is better.
Pre-blackAlbum Metallica is the only Metallica for me. That's what I grew up with, what's who paved the way for other metal bands, and they were fearless and more genuine in their creativity.
Master of Puppets was their peak, Justice was their lingering greatness (sans Cliff Burton) pumping out one last great album, and Black Album was when they were began milking the dying horse.
Enter Sandman and Sad But True and the whole rest of the Black Album just felt like they were trying too hard but coming up short. It didn't have the darkness, weight, menace, and sense of grandeur of all their prior works. It's like they were no longer the same band, but a different group of people who sounded like them and tried to make a music career, mimicking their instruments & voice. Since then it's just been more of the same, and they no longer had my attention.
To this day, listening to Master of Puppets, and One, and Creeping Death, and a few others all have a physical effect on me. They're truly legendary.
Metallica is 1983-1992, take my word
