The check engine light Is surely about the pair system connector, and Also could be diagnosing the failed idle, having It cheked could help you identify the problem about the misfire. Love your series! Keep It up
HeroRR good on you. Nothing like new OEM chain. In my bike previous owner installed Chinese chain and it snapped on me and made a crack in the case :( you never save money by buying Chinese aftermarkets
Hi mate. I'm from the other side of the pond as they say, I appreciate your knowledge a lot. I have a 2015 ZX14R, although I've got that from new and it's not damaged, but love your videos about it. Hope you'll keep it on the end, as these are fantastic motorcycles. All the best
One of the most high performance bikes out there, and this guy is just wrenching on it in his shed. Imagine if you tried to wrench on its automotive equivalent. You better have a bachelors degree, cause a Chiron and the like is a thousand horsepower computer. That’s one of the reasons why I like motorcycles, engineers build these things to be repaired by their owners(to some extent, at any rate). Loving the series so far.
I'm glad I bought my ZX14R new in 2013, and I'm also very thankful it's never been down. She still looks as good as the day I bought it, and it is very fast. Guhl Motors ECU flash, Akrapovic exhaust and Vortex -1 front sprocket make it the boss.
Glad to see You saw my comment from the last video,in just how grungy that chain looked!!! Glad your gonna replace that along with the sprockets after the first test ride, cuz I don't see that chain holding up for much longer!!! ;-)
Could be regulator/rectifier unit failing and is draining the battery. Try charging the battery and connect back to the bike. With ignition on, use a multimeter to see if the battery is losing voltage, which will identify the charging system is faulty. In the past, I have also had a corroded connection, inside a factory fitted connector block, on the headlight circuit that caused the same problem. It was intermittent and a real pain to find, took me weeks as I couldn't find the fault when it was charging! Drove me crazy.
It was running good and smooth until you fixed that hissing hose. Replay and watch your video again. Maybe you pulled a electrical plug or coil wire reaching in there to fix it. And consider putting a manual cam chain tensioner on.
My concours 14 with 60k had the same rattle when revving as yours ddI on the initial start up! Sounds like timing chain stretch. Check the play and if so install a manual CCT. Mine is now whisper quiet 👍🏻
I own 2 zx14r and I did the pair valve delete on both....@ 1:47 you need to reinstalled the hose that went on the right side not the plug....the hose is for the idle air control valve. My bike did not start until it was connected. The connector to the pair needs either a paper clip pushed into the connector so you won't throw a code or buy pair valve delete connector. 2nd the hose that goes on the left side of the air box is what you need to plug. If you look up Brocks performance they have a red cap that fits into that hole perfectly.
Sounds like one or two cylinders not firing before dying in the end of the video. Anyways loved your videos ,following all the progress on that kawi ninja!! ❤️🔥
And the fuel mixture maybe be disturbed when removing the pair-system if there is a stock lambda sensor? Just leave connectors hanging without knowledge, maybe he need a fault code eliminator for that connector....I don't know the bike, but I want it 😁
Enjoying the music personally. I find it relaxing. Enjoying this build series. It's actually my first one I've watched. I love to ride but don't know a lot about working on bikes LOL. - Amy
Hi there, Mr. HeroRR! I was very happy to see the new video (I wasn't expecting it so soon), but sad to see how it ended. My mechanical knowledge is very limited, but it sounds like one or more cylinders aren't firing properly (no clue why, though). Best luck!
My bike sounded similar when i fouled my plugs. Im pretty sure you replaced them in your last video though, i would check to make sure the plug wires are connected properly and in the correct order. I think the starter sounds weird because the battery is dying
Chased a similar problem with my 06 ZX 14.Finally pulled the fuel rail to bench test the injectors. Discovered a rat chewed vacuum line on the bottom of the rail ! Never set a code !
Hey HeroRR, check if there's any error codes. Could be multiple reasons. Anyways I'd check the resistance of the ignition coils too while changing the spark plugs if I were you. Those things are notorious of going out of spec and will cause uneven idling
Yeah especially as he said he has a totally new and fully charged battery even if the alternator was completely dead it should be able to run for a good few minutes at LEAST
Hold the SEL button down for 2 to 3 seconds when you turn on ignition, and it will give you the codes, then reference the service manual I sent you for the definitions.
Nice project, i am curious about the next episode to see what the problem was 👍. Btw, as a German engineer i would be happy to see you using a torque wrench 😁
This is painful to watch. I cannot believe how this bike has been butchered and abused. I am so glad it found you to resurrect it. That ZX14R is a superb motorcycle.
Really like a zx14. Maybe I missed it. I saw a lot of duck tape. Did you apply that? Any chance of making that pretier? Also, after the bike is fully completed, will you make a list of all the repairs you did and also a list with all the additional mods you made which you won't find on a stock zx14?
Nice build, though I'm not a huge fan of the block-off plates. It's nice that it saves room while you're working on the bike, but i think it's a little wasteful to remove a feature that's meant to make riding more environmentally friendly while gaining no increase in performance.
Lad, read that broken engine mount as flashing red warning sign: There is great potential for there being much more damage behind all the covers and pipes and bits. This is a heavily crashed 200+mph-class machine! You *_NEED_* to dig much deeper there to look for further hidden problems. If it were mine, I'd take the engine out, and remove everything that obscures the access to the frame. Hair cracks in aluminium can be real buggers to spot, yet weaken the parts *a lot*. You need to check for such cracks! You probably know the crack indicator sprays. Get them. Do not tolerate the big scratch in the right leg of the fork, this weakens an essential and heavily stressed part of the bike a lot. That leg is forked, bin and replace it! That frame is supposed to withstand vibration and the gyroscopic forces of the wheels, the engine torque, fierce braking and whatnot. Especially vibrations are good at making cracks extend. The very moment damaged parts are needed the most, they will fail on you. Working on powerful bikes is rather similar to working on helicopters: There are many more potential killers among the technical issues than with most other mobiles, and you _need_ to be absolutely _paranoid_ about _each_ of them, or you build a suicide machine. Chances are it'll get you. There is no room for cutting corners with high performance machines. Aim for next spring with having your Kawa back on the road, in the meantime: Leave no spot of it untouched, no stone unturned, be _sure_ that it's safe. Maybe it'll turn out that bike is a write-off and that you lost a lot of money on it. (Seeing how things develop with it, that's what I'd bet on, actually.) That would be a genuine mother of all bummers, but a one you will survive with all limbs in place. In the best of cases, you documented all bits of work on the bike, you checked all potential issues and have a superbike you can trust in. If you decide to sell it, you have the documentation of every touch of work you did on it to show for and can tell the potential buyer that he gets a 100% good bike. That will show in the price you can ask. (Plus, I get it that you get a few quid from RUclips that way…) I had a neighbour here on my floor who had one leg missing from his knee down and was speaking very slowly and sluggishly and had more metal than bone in his skull. His 1000cc BMW bike had had a hick-up at twice the permitted country road speed. He went over a wall and stayed airborne for dozens of metres before being stopped rather gently by bushes and small trees, his bike ended up shattered to bits in the remains of the wall. No one wants to hear you tell such stories of yourself, mate! Cheers from Germany!
I have the very same issue it was caused due my atarter bendix broke by starter being tightened with1 bolt only as other one broke and couldn't be used
I have to ask why considering how important they are and the condition of those you left on , plus the history of the bike why you didn't replace the chain and sprockets. Considering how vital they are i would have thought that would have been one thing not to skimp on ?
Nice work so far. Keep it up. But by all means, please get a torque wrench. Watching you tighten that frame bolt without one made me cringe. As for the poor running at the end, I think you probably just knocked something loose in those tight spaces below the tank. Good luck!
The codes can be deleted 1 of 4 ways. 1. what I chose...is buy Woolich racing software and hardware to erase the code. 2. buy a Code reader from Woolich (cheaper)3. Follow Kawasaki service manual which involves starting and letting the bike idle then ride it blah blah. Look up the rest. 4. Take the bike to a Kawasaki dealer to remove the code
you are lubing the chain just fine........the people saying otherwise should shut up. In fact, you cant even lube the linkage bearings because the grease is inside the chain.

I don't know man. I think replacing the chain and its friends would be wise. That thing doesn't look all that safe.

That chain can be thrown away! Look at 3:04 there's a link that is completely stuck
Yep, I cleaned it basically for a test ride and then it's getting tossed.. along with sprockets!

I sill don't understand why did he change spark plugs. Everything was working properly before that...
Yeah, why? And block off plates and shit. That's what you do when it's working. Oil and coolant was the important part.
And the fuel mixture maybe be disturbed when removing the pair-system if there is a stock lambda sensor? Just leave connectors hanging without knowledge, maybe he need a fault code eliminator for that connector....I don't know the bike, but I want it 😁

My CBR sounded exactly like this, when it required work on the valve shims. Valve clearances were so tight, it sounded like a twin cylinder engine.

Gotta say I'm in camp pro-music. I like the slight background tune, especially in parts without voice over. :)
