I like the idea, but show us how you put your system together
She did. They're just stacked with a hole at the bottom for the water to pass through. Obviously the bottom bucket doesn't have the hole. You're making it so much more complicated than it is. There's not a built in filtration system or anything even remotely technical about this. Think like a 1st grader you'll do better than you currently are.

How did you collect the rainwater? Did you just put buckets out in a rainstorm and gradually collect the water?
Apparently they say in the US, it is illegal to collect tain water. But Im in UK but still I dont get it.

I would get rain barrel if I had the space. It’s last work, but this way works too especially if u can get lots of wide mouth buckets or containers to catch. Any amount you can save is awesome!
We currently use buckets to catch water then transfer the water into 32 gallon trash cans with lids that we close with bungee cords to keep the lid on tight. The trash can works as a makeshift economical rain barrel.

Hi 👋🏻 I was told the rain barrel was supposed to be dark colored because of the algae.
Yes it’s helpful to keep the water away from light. I usually just move the water to full shade, place lid on to keep it dark, and keep mosquitoes out. We don’t get rain often here so I will be using up the water quickly.
IBC totes are transparent so its more of an issue with those. These whit buckets won't be as much of a problem since they are opaque & probably thick enough (90mil usually). They can be wrapped in opaque polyfilm or spray painted (after scuffing) if needed. We tend to use our water before it has a chance to grow algae but if one sita a while we toss some BT (mosquito dunk bacteria) or use it to water fruit trees.
I have a gutter that needs to obviously be fixed, but it’s leaking in just the right spot where I can line up 10, 5 gallon buckets. They all fill up within 5 minutes of a decent rain fall. 50 gallons in 5 minutes. Definitely enough to keep my garden quenched until the next rain.

There’s so much to weigh out - logistics, environment, health…do your best. There are BPA Free plastic on the market.
@wendiland not its not just the bpa now, it's the micro plastics of plastic that are in almost everything now.
you need to collect them with rain gutter system. So your going to need to handy and modify your rain gutters
Why don't u dig something underground like a 100ft hole with a system to collect water

How did you catch the rain, with a tarp, funnel or just opened the lids and let the rain naturally rain into it??? How long?

Free catch. Over the course of 2-3 storms. Was a big deal since our average annual rainfall was something like 2 inches. This short was the update to how it was done. The one before this is linked in the description.

No was collecting by the drop! Got lids so I could stack. Checkout the other short on different method that works even better to harvest rain 😄

I just have to empty the rain barrel after the rain into large bottles, which I put in different places in the garden. I would love some bucket as well. I have to let the water pump run in the garden when I am out of the bottle's .
