- A 2005 Global Village segment about a woman who made her living driving trucks along a notorious mountain road in Bolivia. Note the video breaks up a little near the end. More info about the road: en.wikipedia.o...
I appreciate her positive attitude. Not many of us can say that a flat tire is nothing. My respect to this brave woman.
For those who dont research, the Yungas road is closed to all vehicles except for tourists on bicycles. A new by-pass was built several years ago. This video is historical now.
That makes me feel alot better.
Rita must be a wonderful mother. Inspire of her health, she does this very risky job. May God protect and guide her until retirement and beyond.
Why must she be a wonderful mother?
because shitheads like you dont deserve a mother at all:She is a woman you never will find anywhere else in the modern wordl ,they are simply too fine to a job like she does, besides they are also no good at all.
bjørnulf øvrevalle 👍👍👍👍👍. Thanks.
@@aaarrrggghhhh LOL
@@kellynorman7452 ,in what possible way is she a loser?,she is working for her living!,.are you alright?you seem to be very empty and not happy within yourself.
Where I live people complain over a pothole in the road ! Way to go Rita ,what a lady ,respect to you ..
Oh my God!, please guide and bless them always🙏
Seeing stuff like this makes me so happy I live in Canada sometime we forget how good we have it ❤️🇨🇦😘
my dad and I are from Canada my dad had to do a missionary trip down there and had to go on that road he said it was the scariest thing in his life
darcy werner yikes
That was incredible. Rita is an awesome woman! I bet she has many stories to tell of her travels.
I'm from Bolivia. I passed throught that road. It's Insane !
Happy yours was a successful journey...you were either very brave, extremely desperate or an extreme thrill seeker...Cheers
@El Jay ---- Know exactly what you mean!
Why they don't build safe road, with tunnels and bridges. Just to maintain this road and all accident what happen cost so much money, and also fuel costs to climb this road up...
Why dont they work on making it wider?
@@captainjollyrogersailingso6809 Did you saw how is looks like? You would need so much to work to make it brighter. But to build modern highway would need much drilling into mountain and lot of bridges and think this is too expensive...
That is one ballsy woman, much respect.
John K Lindgren wtf...fucking weirdo lib
I'd be dehydrated cause of all the tears I would cry on this trip. I drove the road to Hana in Maui and I still need therapy.
roblou62 sorry, but lmao
Since there are fatal accidents nearly everyday on this 40 mile stretch of road, presumably when two vehicles are trying to squeeze by each other, then wouldn't it be much safer and make more sense to just designate certain times the road can be used going one way? For example, between the hours of 6 am and 12 noon, only vehicles climbing the mountain are permitted (assuming the climb would take less than 6 hours) and then between 12 noon and 6 pm, only vehicles descending are permitted, and just keep rotating it like that every 6 hours. It would greatly reduce the loss of life.
***** Your suggestion makes too much sense to ever be implemented in a third world country.
ReligiousZombie So true buddy, so true.
***** There's nobody to enforce such a rule out there, so it would not be followed. I'm sure the business is cutthroat and so they believe taking such dangerous risks is worth it in order to maintain competitive.
chownful Sadly, you're absolutely right.
+chownful .omis
Wow!!! I would not ride a bike on that road, let alone a Truck!!!!!! Great job Rita!!!
God bless Rita and all whom go
through this dangerous roads 🚚🚛
Amen!
Men should look up to her she knows what she's doing & does a good job of it too . I love it when tough women like Ms. Rita shows men she can do what they can do & alot of times even better .My dad drove a truck for years all his life up til the day he passed on & he would have loved to have met this lady .
the woman has bigger balls than I do...driving the road at night and in rain and fog...kudos to her
What an amazing and brave Woman, Hats off to her!!
True Balls . And also a sight of poverty and hardship. something that we take for granted .
Maybe poverty in your eyes, but they might be happier than us or anyone.
GOD BLESS YOU,,,,,MY KIND OF WOMAN,,,,AS I WAS A TRUCKER IN THE U,S,A, FOR 35 YEARS,,,COAST TO COAST ALL KIND OF ROADS AND WEATHER,,,
Wow, my heart beat faster along this video. Amazing women driver
THIS LADY IS SO REAL!!!!!
Make way it's Rita's road I love this may you all have safe journeys thank you for sharing 😀👍🇨🇦
Wow! Hats off to her! What a brave woman!
I used to be a bike messenger in bolivia . I travelled this road daily on my bicycle delivering coca leaves to the northern towns. It was fun
Isn't coca tea legal in Bolivia but Cocaine illegal i also hear they grow opium poppy in some parts of the Andes because its so hard to police and just as profitable as coca but not as prevalent as Afghanistan,Myanmar(Burma) and Mexico.
Rita has some balls to do that for a living.
Respect.
My respects to this lady!!
Why would some one dislike this video? I like it.
Be well ,be safe brave lady proud of you💖
Tough woman, i bow to her.. :D
que ejemplo; Rita. Que ejemplo.... Un saludo desde Argentina
That's sad for the people who die on the road
+Seth Adkins I kno it!, and some simply cannot be recovered, its like a bottomless "Valley Pit" . Can't imagine what it might be like to travel through such valley. "May God rest their souls." Scary Stuff, props to the folks who brave it
When she said "We are in Balconcillo , which is the most dangerous place"
Like TF??? The whole trip from the start is totally dangerous.
Respect for Rita
What a wonderful lady Rita Madam is... God Bless You and Keep You Safe and Healthy throughout Your Life Rita Madam.... With Love from India... Regards
I did the mountain bike tour down that road 20 years ago, I saw workers salvaging lumber from a truck that fallen over the edge, it was so far down you could barely see it. A bus had gone over the edge a couple of days later.
mis respetos rita tienes valor y mucho coraje para conducir por esas carreteras suerte en tus viajes y que dios te bendiga siempre saludos para toda latino américa desde España
The love of a mother is just something that is beautiful and strong
I bet that road is slippery as hell after it rains
More slippery than KY jelly
And they say women are the weaker sex. This lady proves balls to the walls belong to those who dare. You Rock Rita!
+Marjorie Nardini well, she's one in a thousand.
+Mila agreed.
would a man do this in the 1st world either? Seems crazy for anyone to do this if they dont need the money./ Thrill seekers only
Men do this aswell, in far greater numbers
In other words, that makes you a sexist, in your terminology. Clearly every girl in my neighborhood is like this kick-ass woman, yes? Yeah, I bet every liberal, progressive, millenial feminist who can not live a day without Tumblr, Instagram, safe space or an iPhone can do just like this semi truck lady.
As for this lady, I have a fuck ton of respect for her, AND HER only in this discussion.
From what he says @ 05:39 that means there must be thousands of dead bodies in the valley that have collected over the years.
Martha Villalba AMIGA SABIA UD. QUE ESTA CARRETERA TAMBIÉN SE LLAMA LA VENGANZA DE LOS PARAGUAYOS.
ja..ja..ja..ja......!
Wow! Forty seven hundred meters is more than 14,000 feet! Can you imagine you and your car falling 4 to 5 thousand feet? This is one brave lady. I can't handle driving to 5,000 feet in our local mountains in CA!
Good job bold driver. Much respect from India.
Jesus, I'd rather just walk it.
I would ride a bike
I'd cough up for a plane over.
I would rather not go
Grow some balls
That's right better late than dead.
Hats off! Good luck madam
Wow Amazing ... I used to watch this Global Village almost 20 years ago in Australia , I wonder what happened to him and his lovely show. ?? I will find out and ask why it is not on TV anymore ???
Love from Australia🇦🇺🇦🇺
Brave heart women..huge respect for you...god bless you always
This's insane...and almost every truck is a Volvo !!!
She is a brave woman
Brave women..may god bless her no tragic.
You are inspiring all of us. Keep it up and God bless you. All the wishes from Sri Lanka Rita
This was fourteen years ago....weak heart, high blood pressure, extremely dangerous job.....what`s the odds?!
I don't think this truck has ever used 4th gear.
Senora muy brava!
Que Dios la proteja siempre en sus viajes.

Amazing. She makes me proud.
Absolutely terrifying. What a horrible position to be in to have to make that drive on a daily basis.
My grandma's name was Rita. When she was younger she was in demolition derbys. God bless her may she RIP.
Just gave me anxiety watching this.
It looks so scary! I thought driving through Yosemite was scary, but that is no comparison with this. On top of that, she's driving a truck. One tough lady!
Much respect for Rita she looks like a good mother
Cameraman has balls of steel too! :D
The reporter forgets to mention that although she gets 50 bucks a day in average during her trips she still has to pay a fitter to travel with her! Thanks for the video!
this road is no longer used by trucks, the govt has built a bypass...the only traffic on this road these days are bicycle tours.....still people drive off the side...but maybe two or three a year....its a rush....
You Tube recommend this lady legend👍
"I have high blood pressure..." No shit!
Wow what incredible people , good bless them all
Rita has nerves of steel. I would be crying if I was in that truck with Rita. May God bless this very courageous lady.
mis respetos a ti Rita, saludos desde Nueva Zelanda
i miss this show...global village good old sbs
It used to be Exactly the same as the road to my hometown in Mayoyao, Ifugao, Philippines! drivers had to bring their own vulcanizing equipments and digging tools in case of landslide.
que valiente esta señora se merese todos los respetos, que coraje, mujer ejemplo para todos por que cualquiera no conduce por esas carreteras ,por algo se dice carretera de la muerte felicidades señora.....
Long live Rita. Great lady.
Damn, I am a CDL driver and Rita has "balls of steel!" Talk about GIRL POWER!
I don't know why the government refused to widen the road
Richard Schaffe they built an alternative road
This video was shot in 2005. The new highway opened a year or two later. There's one shot in this video where I think you see part of it, partly elevated on bridges hugging the slope.
Wowww..I proud to ma'am Rita
I'm from Philippines
We have a same in Pakistan between the cities of Peshawar & Kohat. It is called OLD LANDI KOTAL ROAD. It has eaten up thousands of people until now.

Rita you are a very brave person & it show's you are a very good truck driver. Be safe.
BRAVOOOO Rita!!!!
saludos Rita desde Monterrey NL.mex.....BRAVOOO....
Saludos rita desde Mexico con mucho respeto...
One of the most intense movies I've ever seen was William Friedkin's 1970s (Dir. The Exorcist, The French Connection) film Sorcerer. Two pair of men are hired on by an oil company to drive 2 trucks with a couple of crates of old, very unstable cases of nitro sweating dynamite in each, over 200 miles through the jungle.
Cordillera Real similar here in the Philippines we have also place called cordillera region and the road here is also risky
South America is not only about drug trafficking . Improve your words Rita is not drug addict instead Rita is not drug trafficker .
Mis respetos señora.
Fleetwoodray: I believe the Death Road is still open to traffic in 2019. You might want to check your sources. There are people who live along the old road and they still need goods that are delivered by truckers.
Went down this road after college with a group of my friends on mountain bicycles.Back then it was not legal on a bicycle but we went anyway.I had earned a degree in engineering and the entire trip,my six friends and myself,I just had my mind on how you could extend the road, make it wider so it would be safe. Then it hit me that Bolivia really didn't give a shit, they didn't care about it so it would never be fixed.I would like to hear from people that read this as to how they might fix it.So any comments on how to fix it I would love to hear because I have an idea I'm pretty sure would work.
if the government would not do it, would they allow a private company to build it and charge a small toll fee that the locals can afford and recover cost over time that it cost to build a safe bridge or widen the road. with safe rails blocking the slope.
Watching from Nairobi kenya
Watching from 🇪🇨
Saludos desde Marueccos , Dios Te bendiga Rita
She is AMAZING! 👍 I worry about her heart and high. lood pressure in addition to endangering herself on this deadly route.
She should be PAID MUCH MORE!! They are taking advantage of her!!
You might not fear it but you respect it
She is so amazing women.. God bless her.
I think Clarkson and co did this road for Top Gear once.. no room for error at all.. Really like the scenery.. Nerves of steel required.. not for the nervous, wimps or newly passed drivers... imagine your first time seeing that.. bloody hell.. I don't suppose they could make it all one way depending on either a m / p m, alternate days or morning and night time?
She is living Heroine. Heads off
In my D.C suburb neighborhood, there are no streetlights, and the roads are not smooth as glass!
That looks like a great career move for my daughter. I'm buying her plane tickets as we speak!
I am American truck driver I know that her feeling through driving God bless her
Narrow roads but heavy long vehicles running there...This road will automatically reduce casualties once short vehicles are utilised...all the best all the brave drivers..
😲 This People are Genius and Brave. I would've given up even with good brakes
Stairway to heaven if you slip.
Heaven is up, not down!
@@randybridgeman5050 he means if someone falls to the gorge, God will pick them to heaven
Aware of what he meant but it doesn't work that way according to what GOD says.
