Its just so perfect because you know that if Gene Kelly were still alive and young today he could have danced like this with no problems - a true artist!
I remember this being a YTMND meme 10 years ago. Look at his fucking face, going perfectly lateral 0:21-23. It's still funny to me. It's like a youtube poop gag. BUT THEY PAID MILLIONS FOR THIS
Absolutely awesome commercial! Gene Kelly would have appreciated it had he been alive to see it. Hell, if he was born a few generations later, he probably would have been dancing like this. Outstanding.
Yeah this is actually David Elsewhere dancing in this. I was amazed to see George Sampson win Elsewhere's dance moves AND the original song he danced to. Tacky if you ask me:(
George does it a whole lots differently! its faster and more modern and does it brilliantly. he got my vote tonight! deserved to win. he hardly stole it from this advert which iv heard someone say on George's semi-final video. The top 3 were my favourites but glad George won it rather than another singer. For a 14 year old, he has the biggest heart and dedication to what he loves as well as the most talent! Can't wait to see more of him!
That's a question i'm asking myself. This is one of my favourite adverts ever it is pure genius. You do have to wonder why people come to this specific video to argue that someone didn't copy it. If he didn't copy it or borrow any part from it then don't make a comment about him!
I love Gene Kelly. You talk about stars - the term is used far too loosely these days. Gene WAS a STAR. His dancing, choreography, acting, singing, film-making skills, his charisma - my god, he had charisma. This advert is just fantastic and I too think Gene would love it to bits.
Yeah they put a lot of effort in to perfectly recreate the film set from the movie to make this ad to look as authentic as possible, which took a lot of effort =)
ye I completely agree with you, Signature were amazing and I could not have predicted who would have won, luckily the person I wanted to win won :] ha, ye I'm doing the same thing because, I thought his performance was the best anyway, but then his determination to continue dancing and enter again was amazing
oh I love this ad and English so it doesn't have any problems lol! I'm sure you've never excpected that a school can make some homeworks on your vid man ^^
WHOOP WHOOP! pretty good point. You never critisise singers for covering a song but when it gets to dancers, you get stupid! Things have to be copied in life otherwise we would get nowhere. Fezzer xx
"The Original, Updated". Seriously, whoever came up with the idea for this ad deserves a medal. Gene Kelly would be proud. By the way, when the dancer climbs up the pole and hangs upside down at 0:33, he has a nice arse!
You might as well turn around and say that anyone who's ever sang a song well that was originally performed by someone else isn't talented either. Whether he copied the idea for his routine advert or not doesn't detract from the fact that he is extremely talented!!!!
Well, first you say he is copying it, then he cant replicate it. David Elsewhere is an amazing dancer, we shouldnt even be comparing the two, saying he copied his pop and lock moves- George was merely inspired by the advert- wouldnt you be? He is great for his age and I think a worthy winner.
no need to apologize. David Elsewhere uses predominately pop and stop movements, and he is the best at it. I think George isnt as focused in his movements yet, because he is still young and learning, and, while he leans to the more trad of breakdancing moves, is still experimenting and trying new things to find his own style.
hi if ur still doing ur project then i makes me think about gene kelly because the car if only featured for a couple of seconds where he is in all of the advert
The guy in the advert dancing is called David and hes the one who does the Robot dance thats got millions of views, just type Robot dance in youtube or even google and it will come up, great dancer and hes done a lot of adverts pepsi and so on....
I agree about the whole copying thing and was surprised no one on the panel picked up on it. Now if he took the song but used moves he strung together by himself instead of an existing set then it would have been more acceptable. But replicating the majority of the advert is not I think you and many will agree.
lol, sorry, I read some of your other posts and now realise that it wasn't you making that comment but to be fair the one I first saw looked like you were saying he copied it and claimed it as his own(on it's own that is, with the other comments it makes sense) soooorrry :]
Obviously you do. I'm not complaining about it becoming number 1, I'm just stating the obvious of how it all of sudden became number 1 and how people are so easily influenced by what they see on tv, similar to how everyones copies the same trend they saw some big name rocking.
dont know why anyone is even comparing george to gene kelly. gene was a theatrical performer, actor, choreographer, dancer...one of the best. But that wasnt even really all him in that ad... if u wanna watch the original you'll see it was a totally different type of dancing.
I didnt mention his life at all, just his age and how that is indicative of his talent if he is that good at 14. And look at the semi final and then final performance again- I noticed the changes the first time I saw it, but if you still cant pick out the new moves, you obviously arent the expert on dance you imagine yourself to be.
The face wasn't CG. It had been taken from the original footage and stitched onto the new footage with the dancer. I'm guessing they had to get the camera angles right so that the face wouldn't look awkward on the new body.
Wait, you think Gene Kelly would be insulted? Gene Kelly was going out to watch breakdancers on the streets when he was in his seventies. He loved anything that would advance the form of dance. I think he would've gotten a kick out of this.
I think Gene Kelly would be all for this if he were still alive. He would love to have learned to dance like that!
@@BlueJWay999 just
Gene Kelly must be dancing for joy in heaven looking at this. Gene, you sir are a legend and will never be forgotten...
God I remember the first time I saw this in TV! I was sat there going :O for the whole thing!

A simply stunning piece of work.
This is an amazin' advert! And the song is great!
Absolutely awesome commercial! Gene Kelly would have appreciated it had he been alive to see it. Hell, if he was born a few generations later, he probably would have been dancing like this. Outstanding.

Still remember seeing this for the first time. Great surprise, great experience. Rare to see a commercial like this, simply genius.
George does it a whole lots differently! its faster and more modern and does it brilliantly. he got my vote tonight! deserved to win. he hardly stole it from this advert which iv heard someone say on George's semi-final video. The top 3 were my favourites but glad George won it rather than another singer.

Awesome, always get me going. Wow what a talent.
I think all of the acts were great and that they all deserved to win ;D
Love this song and this commercial
That's a question i'm asking myself. This is one of my favourite adverts ever it is pure genius.

I agree. I find that Volkswagen tends to run advertisements that break free of the cliches that the other automobile manufacturers run. Very cool.
I couldn't agree more. When this ad 1st came out I went out and bought the Singin in the rain DvD!!!!
absolute best advert ever!
i hate the advertising industry but this is definately one of the most amazing ads i have ever seen.
This ad still manages to make me giggle insanely and just feel _happy_ about it.
Bought a Golf V(Rabbit here) two years ago and love it to death. This, however, makes my skin crawl and never come back.
Fantastic ad!
Easily one of the best adverts shown of Tv
I love this advert!
Gene Kelly must be smiling with joy right now!

They will show this advert again for sure...

ha, ye I'm doing the same thing because, I thought his performance was the best anyway, but then his determination to continue dancing and enter again was amazing
Actually, several different dancers were used for this ad :)
Gene Kelly owns. Nuff said.
Only just discovered the dancer for this advert is actually David "Elsewhere" from the 'robot dance' Kollaboration 2001 video! Amazing!
oh I love this ad and English so it doesn't have any problems lol! I'm sure you've never excpected that a school can make some homeworks on your vid man ^^

His dancing is so good;the dance moves look computer generated!, yeah and i think he is better than George Sampson.
aww, ye, and he was so nice to Andrew as well
night
now that i think bout it ur right!!
What form is that sorry? It looks more to me like some kind of urban ballet dancing.
sorry but what exactly is George's style of dancing? I still haven't been able to work it out..
dont know why anyone is even comparing george to gene kelly. gene was a theatrical performer, actor, choreographer, dancer...one of the best. But that wasnt even really all him in that ad... if u wanna watch the original you'll see it was a totally different type of dancing.

so true, george is the master.
