I'm not even a med student. I'm beauty therapy but I have a horrible time with recalling things if I leave it for a few days. In my course, I have to recall the cardiovascular system (arteries mostly), skeletal system (every bone), muscular system (the ones I work on around the body), lymphatic system (nodes) and also all the contraindications and treatments and legislations to go along with it. As easy as it is for me to learn and understand something, it's just as easy for me to forget. So thank you so much and keep up the good work!
My biggest struggle is to find what is more important to add to my flashcards. Besides that, its hard when i have to memorize a card with lots of information that cant be fragmented, e.g, all symptoms of a disease.

5:46 You could consider using an addon such as the (random) sequence inserter to avoid this problem with multiple-choice questions. The answer set will be the same, but you can get them to be presented in a different order, and so you cannot unwittingly remember that a question has answer "A" rather than whatever answer that choice actually stands for. It's a bit more advanced, but in certain cases it could be worth the effort. Or perhaps rather than remembering "A", you mean that while you do remember the actual answer as it is shown, but just in terms of the literal phrasing of it, rather than the concepts behind it? But in that case, that problem could in principle occur just as easily for open questions, and I think in practice that will not happen too much, especially if you as a user are cognizant of this to some degree.
So I started using Anki this semester well. Tried it last semester but not well. For me I found using cloze deletion flashcards and image occlusion and simply copying pasting slides to be best. Typing by hand took too long and was inefficient

If you do find a pre-made deck that perfectly covers the material you want to learn, don't forget that you can still edit the cards and fields. I always at the very least add a mnemonic field and stuff the cards with images and stories.
Anki is definitely amazing for languages ! I use it all the time for english, chinese, spanish, and even french (my native language...). I pray God to help me memorized my 2 pages written script, and I follow this video. Today is my presentation and I'm confident. I memorized everything through the help of God and this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I used to use Anki in my first semester but I found that it took too much time to make the cards or I made too many cards. How many cards should I make per lecture?
Flashcards? What about memory palaces, hacks to improve specific memory associations or chunking information? Those are the techniques that memory champions use. Imagine yourself walking through your house (or a place you know well) and associating a memory you want to save to a specific places of it. Then, you just have to mentally walk through it to remember what was stored in every place. Also, to improve different idea associations, just mix them up, make them ridiculous or shocking, so you don't forget. Need to buy milk, cookies and a mop? Then imagine a cookie with hand and legs moping milk (for example, I just made this up). Use your imagination.
Hey, he has already done a few videos about this too. As someone who has tried a bit of everything when it comes to memorization, I daresay those techniques are great (memory palace). But I haven't used it much since it was somewhat challenging : I remembered the content better than the place where I left it... Like, yea I know II-2)a- is about amnesty laws, but is it on the couch or in the wardrobe ? xD To me, the best combination is flashcards for words, numbers, dates, definitions, books, events, simple ideas ; and schemes for either mapping the content of the lesson as a whole and remember mecanisms and causalties. Making schemes as Anki flashcards is also a nice way to remember causalties !
I've also heard of this on a different video. I tried to do it but I found it extremely difficult and useless for biology/chem exams. (Probably because I didn't master the method).
I'm not able to understand what's a good flashcard like and what are the differences between a good and a bad flashcard ?? (I'm a med student first year) Please explain in terms of a medical student and also with ur experience plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Back in my time, it helped me to take notes, what my teacher talked about during class. Just cluttered it on paper in lesson and underlined the important things (I personally can figure out what's more important than something else while talking due to on what someone takes emphasize on, yes, I had still a difficult time with monotonous old teachers). Then when I had to take the bus home, I made my first copy of the subject sheet I got the most problems with and simply rewrote things a bit more cleaner. At home after homeworks, I made my 2nd/3rd (depending on subject/topic). Everytime I had finished one I made a short break and just relaxed. So the brain got the time to process things. When I was done with all, I did myself a good f.e. took a warm bath or whatever and then went to bed. At weekends I took the daily sheets and made a summary from each subject/topic. And months end/before exam, I took the weekly/months sheets and rewrote them again. I even, when holidays started, rewrote those sheets and summarized them just because that's what helped me to actually learn. Many people, including my parents always said to me "why you don't learn by speaking?", "why do you need so long for your school stuff?", "you sure you'll pass the exam?" And everytime, I just proved them wrong by passing every exam almost perfectly. I don't know why that happened or why I behaved that way. I just know that I'm doing things always differently than others and that i can figure my ways of doing things out on my own and in my opinion, there isn't "the one and perfect" neither "the best" way of doing stuff. Everyone needs to figure out their individual way of get things done. For others it might help just to learn the sheets the teachers gives out or an app shows you and learn those by heart. I never really "learned" for something. I didn't really read those sheets either when a test or exam was coming and I'm still not a fan of pushing stuff in my brain on the night before the test/exam. Since in my opinion - what you didn't understood until then/what you're not capable of until then, you won't be when the test/exam is right in front of you. I've never was even remotely close of being stressed with learning. Others might be, I don't know and really can't understand since I've never had the experience.
I’m watching these videos cause they calm me down I have exams in less than 50 days and I’m freaking out I’m doing 2 years in 1 because of travelling reasons and I know I’m failing
when I was younger I had great memory and was an excellent student but when I was twelve years of age my life changed I had to have immediate surgery and my life was never the same and it is definitely hard to stay focus and memorize
This methods can work for theory related college lectures but what other method can be used to memorize MATH related subjects? Learning what steps you need to solve any equation is way different than learning concepts and facts
I read online that introducing 25 new cards each day is ideal. However, I’m wondering how many decks I can realistically study every day? For example, if I have a deck for my second language, a deck for the MCAT, and a deck for biology, can I study all 3 and add 25 new cards to the decks each day? TIA!
Hi, While techniques like Anki may be useful for medical students where you need to memorize lots of conceptual facts, I'm having problems understanding how they can be used in subjects like Law and Finance. I understand this isn't your domain, but do you have any take on that ?

These techniques are awesome and suitable for everyone and every kind of memory.
Thanks for explaining the science behind every tip!
If you do find a pre-made deck that perfectly covers the material you want to learn, don't forget that you can still edit the cards and fields. I always at the very least add a mnemonic field and stuff the cards with images and stories.
This advice is great, I will most certainly apply it when I pick back up studying Korean!
Anki is definitely amazing for languages ! I use it all the time for english, chinese, spanish, and even french (my native language...). Good luck anyway :)
Also, think about adding pictures for each word you add. Plus, some addons are quite helpful when it comes to making asian language flashcards (I use Chinese support).
OH COOL!! I'm on duolingo and looking at free grammar lessons from TTMIK for learning Korean now. How do you learn Korean? Online or...?
@@khadhija7 Right now I am on duo, listening to the TTMIK podcasts, I have the TTMIK book, workbook, and hangeul master that I go through. I also add new vocabulary from the books to anki and do the cards every day as well as watching k-dramas and listening to k-pop to immerse myself!
@@ma-teman1197 saaammmee i binge watch so many kdramas its scary... and as u can see from my pro pic, I'm an ARMY ^_^ Eventually I hope to get the TTMIK books tho, but for now I'll take you up on your tip for using ANKI for languages :D
currently 13 years old and wanting to be a pediatrician when i grow up
Just graduated from med school and watch this video. Lol, how can I be that late !!! Anyway, thank you so much for your advice !!
Congrats!
Me: Watching a video about improving my memory
After: Forgets what the video was about*
got embryology tomorrow so this came in time
thanks
@@MedSchoolInsiders thanks , I sure need it 😂😁
I’m glad I found this now ! I’m just about to start my journey as an undergraduate. This will surely help me get the grades I need to get into medical school
Seconding Anki! I wish more of my classmates used it. That way we could make share decks. Sadly, my friend and I are only two people who use it.Sometimes I have trouble differentiating important (=testable) information.
I hope that by the time I get into medical school this channel will still exist
We’ll last forever!! Muahahaha
it's not just smart work, it's hard work mixed with smart work.
Me watching this video then immediately forgetting the tips
Kudos for the Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Conabel Muscle Marmsome (do a google search)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for learning how to memorise anything without the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my close friend Aubrey after many years got astronomical success with it.
This was a very helpful video!!
hey Doc., here in Italy every exam is oral. Would you recommend Anki even for that kind of preparation?
I am a cosmetology who is trying to remember all of this, and why do I want to do hair again? But it's to late money already down. I need to remember. Thank you for sharing this.😃😃😃😃
@1:49 is something to keep in mind.
Got me into ANKI around a year ago, wish I would have used it more in undergrad. Now I'm slowly converting classmates to it as they realize ineffective studying methods won't cut it in med school.
Thank God, through Anki I learned Hebrew and German
Guys, it's thoroughly effective!
First exposure about 65 years ago while riding the 8th Ave subway and watching a mailman (yes, man) using index cards to memorize area codes (yes, area).
i was trying to remember my dreams and a few days past and i could remember a bunch of things and recall it two weeks after lol accidental
Kevin , Maybe you should make a video about how you create all those excellent Animations..
Hi! I'm known of having bad memory. Yesterday I've watched this video because we have speech presentation at school today as Mayor, and many teachers will watch. I pray God to help me memorized my 2 pages written script, and I follow this video. Today is my presentation and I'm confident. I memorized everything through the help of God and this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
please make a video of yout anki settings
Yay I literally needed this so bad 😂
Is quizlet good too?
Thanks Dr. Jubbal! Super excited for next week's video! :D
Like, yea I know II-2)a- is about amnesty laws, but is it on the couch or in the wardrobe ? xD
To me, the best combination is flashcards for words, numbers, dates, definitions, books, events, simple ideas ; and schemes for either mapping the content of the lesson as a whole and remember mecanisms and causalties.
Making schemes as Anki flashcards is also a nice way to remember causalties !
I've also heard of this on a different video. I tried to do it but I found it extremely difficult and useless for biology/chem exams. (Probably because I didn't master the method).
BSMLS freshman here just dropping by. Tryinh to mprove my study habits cause... I needed help.
Thankyou so much for the suggestions ...so useful 😊
Every time youtube gets boring ,you will see random stuff like these pop up
I'm not able to understand what's a good flashcard like and what are the differences between a good and a bad flashcard ??
(I'm a med student first year)
Please explain in terms of a medical student and also with ur experience plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
C-couldn't you share your Anki deck with us ?
Couldn't*
I am a Pokerface lol 😂
You done this soooo good it will help me in exam
Please pin this also
I loved the video. Thanks
Binging this like a show😁
I have a note to write med school insiders points 🤪
Where can I download that Anki software?
Thank you, helped me a lot
I’m watching these videos cause they calm me down I have exams in less than 50 days and I’m freaking out I’m doing 2 years in 1 because of travelling reasons and I know I’m failing
Thank you 🙏
when I was younger I had great memory and was an excellent student but when I was twelve years of age my life changed I had to have immediate surgery and my life was never the same and it is definitely hard to stay focus and memorize
Mr Jubbal I don't know after how much time should I recognise the same topic again . Please help with this situation of memorization
I want to start Anki again, but it is difficult for me to do it daily! Here goes nothing... AGAIN. Haha thanks Dr. Jubbal.
The only reason I wasn't scoring was because I used to recognise and not recall 😭
I NEED PART 2 NOW MY EXAMS IS IN 3 WEEKS!!!!!!!! :'( :'( :'(
How did you do? Or how do you think you did?

7:51 can someone explain this point about Pomodoro and Anki?
My english 🇺🇲 is 💡😅
This methods can work for theory related college lectures but what other method can be used to memorize MATH related subjects? Learning what steps you need to solve any equation is way different than learning concepts and facts
I think that's just practice after a point
A great book covering the subject of memory is Unlimited memory by Kiven Horsley.
I read online that introducing 25 new cards each day is ideal. However, I’m wondering how many decks I can realistically study every day? For example, if I have a deck for my second language, a deck for the MCAT, and a deck for biology, can I study all 3 and add 25 new cards to the decks each day? TIA!
Tried to install Anki and it wouldn't work
Trying to improve my memory for criminology school 🏫
Dr. J had some nice psych/soc section review for the MCAT in this video too haha.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to forget this video in 2 hours
1:50 there u go ;)
Hi,
While techniques like Anki may be useful for medical students where you need to memorize lots of conceptual facts, I'm having problems understanding how they can be used in subjects like Law and Finance. I understand this isn't your domain, but do you have any take on that ?
Seems not
I don't understand how you're supposed to keep the Anki cards low (
Thx helped a lot
My memory is horrible. I can’t remember basic stuff I learned a few months ago in med school 😅
