They drive old beaters, wear cheap old dirty clothes.

The original Venom came together in the late 70's in England... they were 3 bodybuilders 😂 I think, who started a heavy metal band. They weren't good as musicians, so they took the punk rock approach - play loud, fast & hard! That became Venom's sound that was a huge inspiration to Metallica... plus their satanic imagery was more explicit and was meant to shock. The original band was Cronos (Conrad Lant, vocals & bass), Mantas (Jeff Dunn, guitar) & Abaddon (Tony Bray, drums)
Early Venom was very raw, and they trademarked themselves 'black metal' in 1982... They were expected to become big, but the bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, etc... that they influenced, took the world by storm, while Venom petered out, along w/ Raven, Anvil, Exciter, Diamond Head, etc.
Cronos quit Venom in the 80's, replaced by Tony 'Demolition Man' Dolan (bass & vocals) for a few albums... Cronos rejoined Venom in the 90's, but currently, Cronos is the only original member in Venom, while Dolan has his own version - Venom Inc.

  • @dc4457

Bands influenced by Venom? Well, early Slayer for one... Venom's song "Witching Hour" was part of their live repertoire for decades. Tons of thrash bands outside of the Big Four covered Venom in demos. The primary German thrash bands like Destruction, Kreator and especially Sodom borrowed liberally from their sound and aesthetic.. Just about any band from the 80s that could be called Death Metal or Black Metal. The avant-garde metal band Celtic Frost grew out of Hellhammer, whose guitarist and founder Tom Warrior described as "a Venom clone, and a deficient one at that". Norwegian Black Metal originators Mayhem covered Venom songs on their first two albums. Too many to name.

Venom were a 3 piece band from Newcastle, England formed in the late 1970s early 1980s.
They were the forerunners of all Black Metal bands and an inspiration to Metallica and many others.
Whilst their songs may be deemed a bit outdated, you have to remember that this type of musical approach was new at its time.
